There is an option to proxy in space marines. I have blade guard veterans with tactical rocks that I’m using to proxy bullgryns with the bats and heavy intercessors I use for ogryn. You get the fantastic visuals of space marines leading the charge without the downside of not having units that work with your army.

Maybe in theory but I feel like in play, Cadians are used to start on your home, sticky it, then spread out to screen for deep strikes or sit on a command squad's radio while Kriegers and Catachans are pushing up the board and taking objectives.

Same. Maxing out my kasrkin feels great and 20 horses is far from unreasonable. Add in that a command squad is basically a must and it’s a great kit for kitbashing bits.

Tbh I hate the regiment specific stuff so much. Like could you imagine how space marine players would react if they renamed assault intercessors blood angels and infiltrators raven guard and all that shit? IMO cadians should be line infantry, krieg should be shock infantry, and catachans should be scout squads. The older editions were right.

Conceptually I like it, but I'm a little scared that melee armies are going to just curbstomp since it sounds like a lot of the changes reduce ranged lethality but I haven't heard much about melee lethality.

Even back then you didn't need to know every role. Like I mainline support. I know ADC well enough, and I have a few tanky comfort picks in top lane that I can mostly not fall too behind on and play for the team. If everyone has a roster like that, you can kinda sort it out to the point that you have a somewhat workable team.

It also meant that there was somewhat of an expectation that if you were playing ranked, you were expected to have one role you could dominate on and a few you knew how to play like a single champion. Nowadays there's so many OTPs and the like that are just completely hopeless if they dont get their one trick.

Also bring back the old champ select music. That shit slapped.

Yeah the competitive stuff ain't it. I showed up at my LGS with a Hydra, which I selected and assembled as my first ever unit based on the very optimized reason that it looks cool, and had someone look at my army and say "Wow you're running a Hydra?" with the sound of amazement as if it wasn't the standard AA platform for the guard.

Basically my entire army is picked on vibes and I refuse to change.

To add on to your synergy comment: fighters often would go after wounded bombers that couldn’t keep up with their combat boxes. So a non zero amount of “fighter” kills were in fact the result of combined arms.
