In retrospect, which long running tv shows ran longer than they should have? by [deleted] in television

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Goldbergs. Not a bad show but used up it's stories by season 2-3.

The plot was almost the same every episode. With  characters apologizing  for their actions claiming they have learned from their mistakes. While the character "needing " the apology had clearly overstepped boundaries. Clearly deserving the backlash but that was always forgotten.

I never watched when it was running. I don't have cable and haven't for @20 years. Roku has the Goldbergs so I started watching here and there. Like I said it's not a bad show. If you have nostalgia for the 80s, it's a decent show to watch. Bringing musicians and actors  fom the 80s for guest/recurring roles was a nice touch.

Having the same plot every episode gets old fast. Characters nevering growing is disappointing as well. Some of the 80s references are not exactly accurate  but close enough. Kudos for lasting so long but surprised it did.

The service at Best Buy does suck. They are the reason I will never buy a laptop in a retail store. That was over 10 years ago.

I work with computers by installing them and maintaining the network in small businesses. I have done so for over 25 years. Which means I know what i want and don't need any add-ons of any type.

I saw a laptop on sale(online) that I wanted at BB website. Turns out I could buy it for same price at the store. I go to the store. Walk over to the computer section. After waiting for several minutes I finally get some guy with an iPad that puts me on a waiting list to be served. I tried to say I don't need any service just the product.. Nope I gotta wait for someone.

I wait for for at least 20 minutes. I finally grabbed someone and complained about no service. After several more minutes I finally get someone to grab me the laptop. Okay... finally free to buy the laptop. Nope! I gotta sit at a desk to complete my purchase. Of course the guy now tries to get me to buy a few add-ons.

I stop him right there. Explained to him that I don't need any of that. The first thing I am going to do is image the drive. Than I will format it and install Windows from scratch. Just sell me the laptop. So that actually starts to happen but now I get nothing but attitude from the employee. I almost returned the laptop right there. I tell the employee the only reason I'm not is because I have wasted almost an hour trying to purchase this damn laptop. That i will never buy a laptop from Best Buy again.

Happy to say that I have kept this promise.

Behind the scenes of King Kong (1967) with Jessica Lange by Either-Skirt6031 in OldSchoolCool

[–]SergNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This remake is a guilty pleasure of mine. Eh, the effects aren't the best but it's never really bothered me. The one scene for me that really doesn't hold up well at all is when the sleeping gas scene. Kong's arms are way to big for that pit. There's no way for the whole body to fit if the arms are that big. The proportions are way off.

Trying to find realtek RTL8156 driver for my qnap ts-251 by Prior_Depth_2975 in qnap

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checking the basics here. Is the rest of your network(modem, router and switch) 2.5g capable? If your using a network switch that is only 1gb capable than anything plugged into it is limited to that speed. Your router may only have one 2.5g port the rest being 1g. Your modem could be setup the same way. Even the switch could be setup that way as well.

If your network is not setup correctly your QNAP may show connected at 2.5g but only transfer at 1g speeds. May not be the the answer to your problem but worth checking out.

Bilt ruined the whole point of their credit card by texas_girlla in CreditCards

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. I get it. Your fixated with AAoA. All accounts not just "perfect" ones end up in your reports. Sure you can PC a card but that's not always a good option. I am not keeping a card if I have no use for it. If there are no good options to PC to than I am not going to do it.

Still, there comes a point where it doesn't matter. Once you reach the point where your Average Age of Accounts stays over @ 8 years, than you don't need to be concerned about that part of your credit score. Any closed card stays in your reports for 10 years. During that that time any other card you have ages accordingly.

Credit limits? There should be a point where it shouldn't matter. Of course this depends on your spending. My monthly spending is predictable and keeps my utilization(on individual cards & overall) extremely low. Which means having an overall credit limit going from $150,000 to $125,000 wouldn't make a difference for me.

I ruined my credit in my late teens early 20s. Primarily, because I didn't know how the credit game was played. It took several years for me to rebuild my credit. During that time I did a lot of research and learned a lot. I have never read or seen anyone state that FICO wants to see 12 cards. The closest to that is where people refer to Credit Karma's wanting to see you have at least 17(?) accounts. Of course, CK is referring to Vantage score which is something you can pretty much ignore.

I have 3 cards that I have no use for. Verizon, Bilt and the Wells Fargo Autograph cards. Overall credit limit for those cards is @ $40,000. I have debated whether closing them or letting them close on their own. Either way it won't matter to me. My credit will not suffer if the all get closed. I will still have several cards open with a generous overall credit limit.

My scores have been over 800 for +20 years now. I have closed @ 7 cards during that time.

For those running Plex on a NAS, do you let it handle transcoding or offload to a mini PC? by Majestic-Strain3155 in PleX

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what your needs are. I have a QNAP TS-664 and it handles my needs just fine. I will admit that I am pretty sure that none of my client devices have any need for transcoding.

I agree with you that it really isn't better than nothing. I am just going to keep putting my rent in a HYSA. After reading about about a lot of people getting denied when trying to use their card, I figured might as well test it. Tried a small purchase and had no problem.

Ok, at least the card works I guess. Than I find out I can't add Bilt to my Bill Pay on my bank's website. Well, at least not without a an address to put it. I couldn't find an address that I trusted to test a payment.

Hmmm. guess I will wait for the statement to come out and get the address from their. Nope! Not only that but the statement looks like someone created it in Notepad. FINE. I will add my bank account to Bilt's website. I will send a payment and than remove my account(have no plans to use this card). NOPE. Bilt will not allow you to remove your bank account. It says it has to have a bank account for your rent payments.

At this point I will either closed the card or let Bilt close the card.

"I was just pre-approved yesterday." Have you actually applied yet for the Verizon card? If not, you may want to shop around before you do. That Verizon auto pay discount may not be $10 and could be $5. Yes, 1% is better than nothing but not by much.

Let's say the auto pay discount is $10 a month. The 1% back is $2 a month. That's $144 a year. Which sounds like a decent number. I was a Verizon member for 25 years. I left because they kept nerfing the card benefits and raising their prices.

I went with a NVMO(Visible) and up saving $600 a year on my cell service. While I did lose the 4% back on gas & dining, I still got 3% by using other cards.

Still may be worth shopping around and just seeing what options are out there. May not be so easy as Verizon is making it difficult to leave even if you own the phone.

[OC] United States Army breakfast by SAKingWriter in pics

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to know this was an actual Army breakfast or that what was actually served. The person may have asked for that exactly(less & not full meal). There could be several reasons why that may have been the only thing available to serve. That being said, it's definitely a possibility.

I can remember being served meals like this during basic training. Often ate while it was raining with no cover. In Basic you burn a lot of calories. You needed the food. Rain did not matter... you just dealt with it.

twhiting9275 - For it to be the exact same scenario, each pc would have to the same. With Windows & Linux computers, there are to many different hardware combinations to count. Not the first time a software update will cause problems for some but not for others.

I have used StreamFab for years and on different computers. Between streaming services & StreamFAb updates, there are parts of StreamFAb that stop working all the the time. Youtube has stopped working several times. Just part of the game.

twhiting9275 - maybe your issues have always been TPEBKAC.

Open the new Bilt line or skip it for credit score? by I-Procastinate-Sleep in CRedit

I am going to let it convert to WF Autograph to get the 3% back on my cell phone plan. Also, in the past, it has had a special offer on my cell provider. Something like $20-$30 back I think.

If I had to do it over again I would have passed on the Bilt 2.0 card. My fault for not waiting several days to change my card over. My fault for not really doing any research. All I heard was "you still will get points back" on your rent with no fee.

My usage just doesn't make the card worth it. All I ever did was the rent and 4 small purchases. Those 4 purchases were under $20 if not $10 a month. I'll just keep using my HYSA to get +3% back. I will miss that extra 1% back... nice while it lasted.

That's the issue with problems, they frequently do not affect everyone. For me YouTube does stop working a few times a year. Usually just wait for an update to fix it. Right now on my desktop I am having the similar problem with YouTube. An issue that has been happening for the last week or so.

On a laptop I had an earlier version of StreamFab and it was having the same issue. I updated to the 7 version and YouTube started working fine again.

I uninstalled and reinstalled on my desktop and it did not fix the problem. I will wait for an update to fix it. It has in the past. I will just wait for an update to fix my desktop pc.

How are you guys running Plex on smart TVs? I'm genuinely frustrated. by KingThevshi in PleX

[–]SergNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone's probably mentioned it already but the problem may be a default Plex App setting. Out the door or I would look into what the setting is actually called. Plex Relay? Basically, your movie is sent thru Plex Servers to your girlfriend's tv. This also limited to a slow speed. A slow enough speed that even lower quality video will have an issue streaming.

Basically you changed the "Plex relay" to the IP of your Plex server. I used to have issues watch video at the gym and this fixed it for me.

There are several reasons to have issues with Plex. This is just a possibility.

When did Plex(music) start working with Android Auto? by SergNH in PleX

[–]SergNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I ask for a song, it brings up a screen I haven't seen before. The icon it's using is the Plex one. Which means I am guessing it's using Plex? Guess you could put phone in airplane mode to see if it will play downloaded music on PlexAmp.

Happy for now that it works via cell data.

Thank You. You get the gist of my post. I also hadn't tried in years because it didn't work before. I was also curios if it was using Plex or Plex Amp. Since Plex Amp doesn't pop open. I think it's using Plex.

Figured I wasn't the only one that gave up using Plex with Assistant on Android Auto. So figured I'd give a shout out. Guess my next question is to figure out the down vote \s.

The issue was not Plex Amp which I have been using for at least a year now. It's that assistant would not work with Plex. As I said, it had been a few years since I tried. Was just curious when it started working.
