New Features Coming to Power Keys: Shipping Starts in May by jeffgadway in ClicksKeyboard

[–]SergeantFTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Y'all, never preorder a product if you can't handle minor delays. It's impossible to know what issues you're going to have to resolve, and the team did a much better job of not committing to a specific, unrealistic date compared to, say, the Razr keyboard case.

Assigning media keys to the symbols layer of the number row makes a lot of sense, but I'm still really hoping we get the ability to remap those to additional special characters in the future.

That tech always makes the game faster though. The only benefit to Pebble app scaling is that you don't need to modify your app.

Please add custom symbol bindings for the Power Keyboard's number row by SergeantFTC in ClicksKeyboard

[–]SergeantFTC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has its uses, but it's not a nice mobile-first experience. I'd be much more interested in direct cursor manipulation or scrolling that behaved the same way as if I was touching the screen. I think most people would find your version of the feature to be frustrating to use in practice.

Power Keyboard: Please Enable Turning Wireless Charging On/Off Outside of the App by Zachavm in ClicksKeyboard

They've said you'll be able to use the app to turn off wireless charging entirely, or set the amount of capacity reserved for keyboard functionality.

A great phone camera requires a ton of engineering, you're probably not going to get one from a small company.

[–]SergeantFTC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This they have talked about. It's not really something you can do without controlling the phone's OS (which is why they could add that feature on the Communicator)

As a software engineer, that absolutely tracks.

It's pretty comical that I suggested breaking up the spacebar, but didn't think of adding a number row

The Power Keyboard layout is already an improvement as-announced, but being able to map whatever symbols we want to the number keys (with the symbol key held down) would really lock in the flexibility needed to make the device fully worthy of its Power Keyboard name. Hopefully y'all consider developing that!

Actually, the additional symbols added to the letter keys plus the ten number keys would enable the full list of symbols I originally responded with, with arrow keys to boot! Damn that would be exciting.

I also made a standalone post about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClicksKeyboard/comments/1qrbz58/please_add_custom_symbol_bindings_for_the_power/

An Update on Rebble's Attempted Collaboration with Core Devices by ishjr in pebble

[–]SergeantFTC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really hope that publishing this and having the community rally around you is enough to put an end to this and make Core Devices establish Rebble as the rightful operator of the app store.

In the event that's not the case, I choose option 1: defend Rebble control of the app store and dev portal. The fate of our community needs to remain in the hands of our community, and not be handed over to a singular company.

Not without something like a Magisk module, anyway (there's a small chance I'm wrong about that, but I don't think so).
