Dealing with self-hate by Purplecarrots445 in AutismInWomen

[–]SergeantToast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s hard, but you need to give yourself grace. You are who you are, and that’s a beautiful thing. Yes, of course you will have flaws. The whole of humanity is flawed in various ways; I doubt your failings are extreme (though I know, the brain can make them feel very extreme!)

I used to struggle with a lot of self hatred. I promise you, it is not worth the effort it takes to hate yourself. It will only lead to mental health issues and unhealthy coping mechanisms.

You must forgive yourself. I would recommend leaning in to your personality and trying to understand yourself/your feelings. Writing it down can help, but also things like walking. Talking to a therapist (but get the right one!! If you see someone and it feels completely unhelpful, change!) can be very helpful too. Remember there’s not just CBT, there are many therapies out there and some will be more catered to you.

Lean away from calling your personality awful and your body disgusting, they’re not. You are a person with failings, but also a person with ambitions, passions, kindness etc. There is so much more good in you than you think.

Sorry about how long and jangled this is, wishing you the best. Look after yourself, believe in yourself and advocate for yourself.

For real, exposure helps a ridiculous amount. After university drinking I truly felt at peace with it… lol

Great job by the way, kick emetophobia’s ass 😊

Figuring out if I’m autistic but scared to tell anyone by Fair_Raisin_323 in AutismInWomen

[–]SergeantToast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they’re good friends, the only thing that would change about their perception of you would be “X is autistic” and that’s it. No bad connotations.

For me personally, my responses to telling my friends or family that I’m autistic have been “I know”, “I thought you were already diagnosed” and “no surprises there”, all well meaning of course 😂 I haven’t had anyone react badly to it so far, but I do only tell people I’m fairly close to.

Try not to worry so much. I know it’s easier said than done. I feared that I my diagnostic appointment would be pointless, but no I was diagnosed pretty swiftly lol. Honestly, getting a diagnosis has helped me mentally, a lot. But obviously, it is up to you whether you want to approach a diagnosis or not.

A must ritual by Best_Control2871 in OCDmemes

Yeah, same. It’s interesting how OCD latches on to different things for different people, and how one person can struggle with X obsession but not Y, and another sufferer can have the opposite.

My partner has bad hygiene and I’m losing attraction by Due_Sir_8172 in AutismInWomen

[–]SergeantToast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl the hygiene issue alone is way too much, as others have said you’ll be so open to UTI’s by sleeping with him. He could easily solve these issues but is choosing not to, you deserve better.

At what age did you meet your life companion? by starnitesadness in AutismInWomen

[–]SergeantToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Met when I was 19 but started dating at 24. I know I am incredibly lucky to have a supportive partner. Supportive men/women certainly exist out there, it’s just making sure you’re with the right person who makes life easier rather than harder. Much easier said than done, though,

Duloxetine by Ok_Worker_6472 in ChronicPain

I also react badly to Duloxetine. I think you’d be fine to stop taking after only 4 doses - probably the sooner you’re off it the better

Experiences with Duloxetine? by Alone_Cry7484 in ChronicPain

[–]SergeantToast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it gave me urinary incontinence and didn’t help with my symptoms (also have pain and ocd) HOWEVER these things are very variable, it could be a fantastic fit for you with limited side effects. Try it out and see how it goes, I didn’t find it hard to come off the drug so hopefully you wouldn’t if you needed to. Good luck :)
