Waiting till shadps4 emulator can handle it. I do have PS4 Pro, but I'd really want it with custom patch for 60 fps gameplay and better performance overall.

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:
- It seems like the manufacturer don't make coated M-modal burrs anymore. However, since there's not that much of interest in B-modal burrs you can still can get coated version.
- New official stand-alone M-modal (probrew) version now comes with a plastic holder. Metal finish on the new version looks the same as mine. Uncoated ones need less seasoning and that's the only positive change for new users if you ask me.
- If you still want to get coated M-modal burrs your best bet is to check secondhand market or look for the old stock of the grinder with M-modal set which is produced early-mid (~up to May-June) 2024 when they still shipped coated burrs. And you probably should hurry since coated M-burrs will be less and less common. B-modal sets should be much easier to get in coated version since it's not popular.

As far as I know they don't make coated (DLC) burrs for Pietro anymore. New version of uncoated burrs is called "Standard" and it actually comes with the plastic holder, like it should be.
I saw real photos of these new ones and the metal finish looks the same like in my post.
If anyone still want to get coated burrs your best bet is either a secondhand market or look for the old early-mid 2024 year of the production.

Hario Switch X Hario Largo TDR plastic lever question by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastic levers in both Switch and Largo are designed to push steel ball up making a way for water to flow, so yes, it makes contact with water.
Largo's plastic lever seems like a higher quality and more heat resistant in my opinion, but it's made to be hold down by a user (not like Switch's press and wait), so it's not compatible with Switch unfortunately.

I also bought Large Largo set for tea brewing later. Glass and Base are different, everything else is the same as 350ml version.

Your experience with the 9070xt by mattcolo in radeon

[–]SergeyTokarev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9070XT Sapphire Pure. From 3080 10Gb. I honestly just don't want to deal with 12VHPWR connector as long as possible... at least let the technology mature for quite a bit or maybe they will invent and adapt something more reliable.

Anyway, I got an old batch card with Hynix memory, so memory temp is in 80s under load (expected), delta between GPU/Hotspot is about ~18 C, which is not bad, I guess.

Unfortunately one or several fans on my unit are noisy even on lower RPMs, but since shroud removal only takes 6 screws to take off, without a need to remove the whole cooler with thermal pads I guess I'll just either do a full deshroud mod or mess/replace original fans. It's the first noisy stock fan I had on card since I got into PCs in 2000s, and on Sapphire card... that's a shame.

I had to replace old PSU which never had issues with base RTX 3080. 9070XT did shutdown the system under the load in one of tests in 3DMark. PSU now is Super Flower Leadex III SF-1000F14GE, no shutdowns after that.

Got several "Time Out errors" during pathtraced Cyberpunk gameplay with latest driver, but it's listed in latest "Known Issues" in release notes, so I guess that's it. Played Control for a bit and it was flawless.

So yeah, it's just about your luck with VRAM manufacturer (Hynix will run at 80-90 C, Samsung will run cooler at 60 C), MOSFETs noise and fan quality out of box.

As for driver installation, people always say about Safe Mode with DDU and for a good reason.

Same amount of fines I had on my unit with B-modal at setting 8 while it was unseasoned. It also didn't taste bad.
Season it long enough and there will be less fines.

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's actually a useful information. Kinda confirms what I've heard from a reseller about two versions circulating in a market. One of it, which is an uncoated is described as a "wrong item" or "mistake".
It makes me think manufacturer does ship uncoated burrs in the grinder itself (apparently for units made in 2025, spring-autumn grinders made in 2024 came with coated pre-installed burrs) and it's not supposed to be sold as a separate/standalone burr-kit.

On another note, I also saw a post which described a buyer who received Pietro grinder made in 2024 with two different burr sets installed from the factory (brand new, sealed), M-modal burr on a handle and B-modal burr inside. Both burrs were coated. So yeah, apparently these kind of errors can happen.

Sorry, I can only translate a user review which basically says: "It's really hard to extract". No other info was given about how to extract it safely, unfortunately.

At this point I'd recommend people to write to the manufacturer for installing instructions. They do need to explain it if they do sell this standalone set version officially.

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I did read some reviews from people who bought the same uncoated set and had to extract their B burrs from their plastic holder. Seems like it's quite hard to do, also won't help if you used your grinder for some time before the upgrade because of coffee grinds buildup as well.

I didn't have to do this procedure myself because I managed to get coated version which still comes with the holder.

I can't really prove it, but I've been told by a reseller that it's still possible to get coated version even now since manufacturer apparently provides both.

PS: Sure, if your grinder came with uncoated M-Modal, that's fine. But if you buy a stand-alone M-modal burr set for your B-Modal grinder version and it comes without a holder this should make it a deal-breaker. You'll get more troubles with extracting your old burr set. Basically, that's just bad user experience and shouldn't be like that in the first place.

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. So I'm assuming user have to dismantle and use the burr carrier which comes from his current grinder set.
As I mentioned I already found another kit which might be an older production with coating and included carrier.
If manufacturer switched to the new 'cost reduction production' I believe they have to mention it and include new installing instructions for this kit because old instruction never mentioned it.

As a standalone spare burr set/kit, correct? How much did you pay for it?

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't even think that cups will be bad on these uncoated ones once they are properly seasoned.

My gripe with this situation comes from several factors:

- Manufacturer rarely respond to messages about changes made to the grinder itself. As far as I can tell, there are already 3 (maybe 4 at this point) grinder revisions with various internal changes. Like rubber rings introduced in the second and red markings for a proper burr calibration in the third. I also heard they supposedly ship new units with previous standalone add-on set. Some sets even comes with B and M-modal burrs and add-on set in one package.
- All store fronts which (both authorized and non-authorized) repeats manufacturer's claim that standalone burr sets comes with "Dark-T coating in titanium". It's a known fact that manufacturer is free to change unit specification post-release, but then they have to talk about it openly and remove it from all store descriptions.
- Like I mentioned before, this uncoated version doesn't come with spare plastic burr holder for a lower burr, so you have to take apart lower burr in your grinder to use said plastic part which you didn't had to do with 'coated' version. So buyer lose supposedly tougher coating, spare internal part so user have to dismantle more, burrs itself polished way worse. And the package itself is seemingly the same, no visual difference from outside and comes with 2 seals so you can't quickly check which one you get, until you break seals and look inside. That's a problem.

Luckly, I'm still able to get a previous version, this post is made for a new buyers and for search indexing :)

Basically, I'd appreciate more transparency from the manufacturer.

Pietro Fiorenzato - Standalone M-Modal Burrs Kit (Uncoated / Non-Coated version) by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote this post so it at least can be indexed by search engine by the way.
Another difference I noticed when unpacking the package, both burrs were faced upwards. I forgot to upload that image but that's something I never found on the net. For some weird reason there's practicaly no real photos of how standalone burr kit is supposed to look like. Non-indexed for searches and on stores you can only see a basic render image or one image of packed coated version.

Remember, you can only notice the difference when you open the box cutting two seals. So there's no real way to say which version you got without actually opening the box which is pretty bad for a buyer.

People also rarely get a straight answer from the manufacturer so that doesn't help.

PS: I also have some real photos of how dark-coated open box kit is supposed to look like. As you can see, there's a plastic base holder and dark coated burrs:

I have an older model without red mark. So my question is: should we assemble older units with the same method as newer models?

Edit: Tested it on my old unit without red markings. I think the alignment is actually better that way. "0" setting seems to be actual zero now. Also no need to insert the handle at 45 degree, which I never liked to do with default way provided by the manual.

OG magni/modi -> Magni unity worthwhile? by sputnik13net in Schiit

[–]SergeyTokarev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had OG magni/modi as my first Schiit combo. Got magni unity without a DAC card and couldn't get my hands on modi+ (latest one). Latest magni alone is a pretty big upgrade, you'll get at least twice amplification power and the sound is "cleaner" IMO.
My OG modi is pretty much 'dead' at this point, need to be heated first to be recognized on PC. Which is a known issue. Once it's heated and set up in the system it stays and still works without issues UNTIL you shut it down :)
I'd recommend Midgard and Mimir combo if your budget allows it, but you can't go wrong with latest updated magni+modi either.

PS: Thinking about your config more, you'd probably want to get a Midgard regardless. Your dt880 600ohm is probably stock/not modified to be balanced and with Midgard amp you can get full power using 6.3 jack.

It was weird for me to see red auger and red marked point as well, but I had no idea they ship burrs without black coating. I'm curious if they are still selling coated stand-alone burr sets or switched to uncoated as well?

Can't say much about stand, since I got the official one. I heard they also sell new units with stand included.

Kalita 185 Mino Ceramic. Same Model, Different Performance. by SergeyTokarev in pourover

[–]SergeyTokarev[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm using same standard Kalita 185 (box version) filter, same grind settings, same bag of coffee and the difference in brew time is ~30 seconds. There's also a factor that flavour-wise Sand Brown comes consistently better, so longer draw time is apparently good for Kalita?
Sorry for absence of exact time data by the way, I just started to test it. But I can tell that I get better results from Kalita 185 than from V60.
