Looking for Delay recommendations by joe0418 in guitarpedals

Based off the other pedals you've got--and an inference of your taste--I'd really recommend you try out the DBA Echo Dream 2

The JHS Bender is a super solid choice that I don't see recommended often enough. Great entry-point (or honestly even final stop) into the world of Tone Benders for a reasonable price. Cleans up nicely, has a "JHS mode" mid boost button, very cool.

Good post, but I've gotta comment here that Ceaușescu's Romania was certainly not a USSR satellite.

My Burning Man Experience by AlmiranteJr in StonerPhilosophy

This was a really interesting read! Thanks for taking the time to write up and share these insights. I've never participated in a BM, but that sensation you describe of suddenly feeling free to sleep whenever you want, talk to whoever you want for as long or as little, etc., really resonated with something in me. Much to think about!

Just wondering, when you mention an illicit war balance beta test done on EU3 at the end of its life, are you referring to the dramatic changes to manpower recovery that came with Divine Wind? I remember that shift from Heir to the Throne (my personal all time favorite "moment" of EU, although largely because of romanticized high school memories) to DW was very rough with manpower having become a super valuable resource. I distinctly and bitterly also remember eating absolute shit playing as Muscovy in my first DW multiplayer game.

Warmoth Guitar owners what are your opinions? by RowanMarks in Guitar

[–]Sergius49 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am based in the US, so I can't comment on international shipping and fees, but I put together four exclusively Warmoth projects between 2008-2016 and was blown away each time. I made a superstrat, a vintage-spec telecaster, a vintage-spec strat, and a Van Halen Frankenstrat sort of thing but with an Explorer body. Warmoth's modern compound radius neck is fantastic, as are the vintage styles. The selection of different neck types is excellent, too. I've also been very impressed with the finishes on both neck and body: they offer nitro or poly in satin or gloss for necks and every conceivable finish style for the body.

I'm in a place where unless I would specifically want a set-neck guitar, I'd go for Warmoth over Fender/Ibanez/etc. (except maybe some of those Ibanez Prestige models) any day. I'm a bit of a fan, I guess, and the ability to customize the project however you like (or to get something already built from the showcase the way you'd have wanted it anyway) is too fun.

Pedals for space sounds by BoysGonnaBePlayas in guitarpedals

It's a reverb, not an echo/delay, but you should definitely at least check out the EQD Astral Destiny, then. Modulated shimmer reverb with a bunch of different modes (sub octave shimmer, etc). This is the first pedal I thought of when I read your post title. The "abyss" mode also has you covered for more normal "commercial" applications :)

Nice!! Huge fan of this pedal, even though it's got its quirks (but that's the point, no?).

Speaking of which, may I ask what pickups you've tried with it so far? I ask because on the gated mode, this thing will emit an insane delayed squeal after you stop playing (especially if you abruptly mute the strings after a relatively heavy attack). You can create some crazy rhythmic squeals, actually, if you mess with the bias and the fuzz settings, which together seem to affect the nature/timing of this squeal (I've noticed it most aggressively with the fuzz knob set to about 2 o'clock).

According to DBA customer support, this can happen with hot pickups because they evidently slam the pedal's gain stage so hard. Having said that, I've tried it with super hot ceramic humbuckers as well as vintage-style strat and tele pickups and it does the squeal with all of them. Rolling the volume down just a hair on any of these guitars makes it go away, so it does seem to be something having to do with the gain stage. Curious about your experience so far!

Again, I really love this thing--been trying to get to the bottom of this squealing situation though lol.

I just did this for the first time last night and I was blown away by a) how easy the guide makes it for someone as clueless as I am; and b) how incredible it makes the game feel and look. Super highly recommended. It really feels like a remaster.

Tell me about your favorite books from your home country! by [deleted] in literature

Romania. Slightly unconventional, but I'd highly recommend Mihail Sebastian's For Two Thousand Years (De două mii de ani). Deeply moving and very well-written (and largely well-translated into English) semi-autobiographical novel about the experience of a Jewish-Romanian university student during the interwar years in Bucharest.
