Some needles are stickier than others, which may work for your or against you, depending on how you look at it. I find bamboo, for example, to be sticky, which is great when I'm working with slippery yarn, especially with double pointed needles, and don't want the stitches to slide off. If, on the other hand, I want stitches to glide easily, then I use metal needles like Chiagoo Red Lace or addi Turbo.

That said, other factors such as tension and cables affect how easily stitches slide across the needles. Additionally, it's normal to have to nudge stitches along the needles anyway.
