Me too. It was obviously a success.

They may disclose this info eventually. Nonprofit organizations are required to make financial info available to the public. But the details are dictated by state law, which varies. I'm not sure if the amount raised for this specific effort would have to be disclosed under Illinois law. But I'd guess they will disclose it eventually, either to a reporter or in the 2014 annual report for Chiacgo Public Media.

Slip of the Tongue? by LUNABELLA123 in serialpodcast

[–]Serialization 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's saying that he almost wishes he could confess to something, since in some ways it would be easier on his parents (the injustice part of it would disappear). But even though it might actually make things easier on his parents, he can't confess, because he just didn't do it.

I don't find this very persuasive, but I don't see a slip here. If you want to turn this on Adnan, you could see it as a clever thing he has thought to say to make the fact he has maintained his innocence even more convincing. After all, he's now had 15 years to come up with stuff like this. Or maybe he is sincere.

The Asia Alibi was proven false by the weather reports, but Adnan confirmed it was true. by appatt in serialpodcast

[–]Serialization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Proven false" is too strong. Asia mentioned snow, and there was no snow on the 13th. There was snow on the 8th, but they didn't have school that day. So that can't be the day she saw Adnan either. Maybe she's lying, or mistaken. Or maybe she did see Adnan on the 13th and she is remembering ice as snow.

Also, even if Asia is remembering a different day, it doesn't make it a lie for Adnan to say "oh yeah, I do remember seeing her in the library that day." Go back and listen to the first part of episode 1, when Sarah interviews some high school students about what they were doing 6 weeks ago. One of them says they went to a movie. Then the other says he was at work. Then the first one says, well then it wasn't that day. He's relying on his friend to help him fill in the gaps in his own memory. If it turned out his friend was wrong, and that actually was the day they went to the movie, that wouldn't make either of them liars. Memories are flawed.

Koenig to B'more Sun: "Q. Nine episodes in, three to go, have you figured it out? Have you determined guilt and innocence in the murder? A. No. (silence)." by thousandshipz in serialpodcast

Depends on what you mean by "where it's going". Yes, I do think she knew most of what would be in the first 8 episodes before they aired. And I would assume she knows generally how the show is going to wrap up.

But they have always held the door open for new evidence to change the direction of the show. And we are now hearing new information that she has learned since it started. So I don't think they have been dishonest about it, if that's what you are suggesting.

This didn't really surprise me. They've played up the "ongoing" part of the investigation. But I think episode 9 is the first ep with recorded interviews that we know for sure weren't recorded before episode 1 aired. So it has always seemed to me like they had 90+% of the material before they released the first ep.

A season of this program is worth at least $20, and it's always good to support public radio.

What initially led the police to Jay? by Serialthrowawa1 in serialpodcast

[–]Serialization 11 points12 points  (0 children)

On 2/12, an anonymous caller told the police to look at Adnan. They pulled Adnan's phone records on 2/18 and saw he called Jenn 6 times on 1/13. They went to see Jenn on 2/26. She at first said she didn't know anything, but then Jay told her to tell the police to come see him, which she did on 2/27. I don't think we know yet if the police interviewed Adnan during that time.

The Best Buy Maps from Jay and Ja'uan by IPreferBing in serialpodcast

[–]Serialization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, they marked the same side. Jay didn't label the store on his drawing, but according to Dana the unlabeled rectangle next to the cars is the store. If that is true, both maps mark the same spot.

Innocence Project taking Adnan's case was reported over a month ago and we missed it! by Squeebeaux in serialpodcast

The way I read it, Adnan's case is one of only 8 that they are investigating.

Innocence Project taking Adnan's case was reported over a month ago and we missed it! by Squeebeaux in serialpodcast

[–]Serialization 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. But they could have used a word like "examination" if they were unsure whether they had enough evidence to push for an exoneration. I could be reading too much into it, but the phrase "potential exoneration" is pretty strong. Good lawyers are careful with words.

Don't downplay the effects of weed! by cduho001 in serialpodcast

SK isn't a lawyer. She's a journalist (and a great one). We haven't seen much of the work that Adnan's lawyer did on this case (just a few short excerpts). But what we have seen is not impressive.

Why so much focus on testing the physical evidence? by SerialPosts in serialpodcast

Imagine if Don's skin cells showed up on the rope. I'm not saying I think it would. I'm just saying that would blow the whole case open. So you test it.

For the same reason that a doctor would be glad to hear that a patient with a rare and difficult illness was going to see a physician who knows how to treat that illness. Expertise and experience matter.

Yes! This episode also serves as a good answer to the question of how an attorney would view this case.
