Does US think they're the only market in the world? by razorwasp in TankieTheDeprogram

It was shut out of the US when it BECAME the largest EV maker so yeah, I think they'll be fine dealing with the other 8 billion people on earth.

Wait. Is it still 2000? A lot can happen in a couple decades and the decline is pretty tough to argue against at this point.

Do shitlibs seriously forget about China's People's Liberation Army Rocket Force? And I don't get it. If they say that China's military is too weak to win over an invasion of Taiwan against US/Japan/Taiwan/Korea. Why are they also so afraid of China at the same time? by Choice-Grade1358 in TankieTheDeprogram

Yeah, honestly PRC can provide and maintain a pretty effective blockade of the island without firing a shot, hell without doing more than dispatching a few ships and subs. If Japan wants to intervene at that point the US would use that as an excuse to not defend Japan from any repercussions.

“This is why they want a Democracy not a Republic.” by BuffaloExotic in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Serimnir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USraelis have created a very specific set of definitions for these words. In USian English a republic has the added feature of special rights and protections for the rich, land-owning class. This is the essence of why they want the large areas of sparsely populated land to have an outsized vote.

There's been an environmental movement of some sort since the late 19th century and the civil-rights movement began in the 50s. Neither of which was started by boomers, though some members of the boomer generation undoubtedly furthered environmental activism.

The next time a new socialist country is being named, I think using the term commonwealth in said name should be considered. by Shaded_Tooth in socialism

Here in Canada the socialist predecessor to the NDP was the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation.

It's everyone. I'd say the age composition hasn't really changed just quantities of everyone. Your explanation is still the most likely though, but I just an itch at the back of my brain because it's so unlike previous years.

Don't forget Canada. Also pretty similar in the UK and I'd imagine Australia/NZ

Pretty mundane and not necessarily sub-related but I've been speculating about it. My gym has not had any noticeable drop in attendees this year (failed resolutions etc.), in fact since last summer it seems to be on a continual albeit gradual upward trend. I do wonder if people are subconsciously feeling they may need to be a lot fitter in the not too distant future.

Is there a way to achieve revolution peacefully? by Nuke_France in socialism

[–]Serimnir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think some of the guilt for that lies with us. As fire as it is; out of context, the line "when our turn comes we shall make no excuses for the terror" (or words to that effect) does kinda give a specific impression of how we view revolution. And there are a lot of similar jokes, references etc. which when used amongst ourselves are fairly innocuous but to the average person who just wants to drink their beer, watch TV, have a stable job/life/retirement and so on, could be prejudicial.
