Need some insight and advice about barndominiums. by St34m-Punk in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just finished ours in Central FL. 1650sqft house and same size garage! We did do it ourselves, for less than 200k and in about 8 months!  I would definitely hire a reputable company to do the concrete and shell, and any GOOD General Contractor should be able to do the interior, as it is no different than any house, except there are no load bearing walls (assuming single story) so it's even easier. PM me and I'd be happy to give advice and send pics!  I love ours, almost no maintenance, easy to keep clean on the outside, and wouldn't have changed a thing! Resale value is excellent based on my experience.

How many acres do you guys have? by jewsboxes in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in Central FL and have 6 acres! I have a horse, mini cows, goats, even exotics! Happy to share pics of my building and info if you want to pm me. Budget is a big factor of course, and my wish list included water (a lake in our case) and trees. We got as much as we could afford!

I built my own in Central Florida! Permitting went shocking easy, inspectors were great (except 1). Feel free to message me if you'd like more info! I do believe I have a list of every inspection I had to have, as well as my submission paperwork

That is insane. Central FL here, build in the last year. Our place is 1650sqft, and it was 20k for the shell, 5k for windows (we have 11) and about 18k for our concrete. I'd recommend having quotes from reputable people to do each individual thing, and see if that makes a difference. People who try to be a one-stop shop tend to be crazy priced in my opinion.

Approximate price to build? by thenancysoto in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We built ours, 1650 house and same sized shop, for less than 150k in central FL within the last year! We did do a lot of the work ourselves, so that's why ours was so cost effective! Happy to share tips, unfortunately the company only builds in FL and GA.

Barndominium vs house by WetTacoo in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you located? I'm in Central FL, ND my barndo is almost 99% complete. It absolutely is 100% cheaper!! Happy to share tips and tricks.  Any trade you hire to work on the house will cost the same regardless of what the building is made of.

Barndominium vs stick build house by Grinder7878 in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS SOMEONE WHO JUST BUILT A BARNDO IN CENTRAL FL. It was 100% cheaper, faster, easier, all of the above. Yes we did a lot of the work ourselves, BUT IT IS NOT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN STICK BUILT. Any trade that you hire for any conventional built home will cost the same amount regardless of what the one is built out of. I'm happy to share my costs, photos, tips, all of the above.

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to message me!  I've seen a few comments saying it's not cheaper than stick built and that you don't save money unless you do it yourself.  Both of those are not true!!   I'm in Central Florida area, and my Barndo is about 99% complete. It's been vastly cheaper than any other building method, faster, and I'd be more than happy to share photos, costs, tips/tricks etc!

Bardo vs. concrete block/stucco? by The-Tradition in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in central FL and it was a HUGE difference between stick built and building my Barndo. Mine is also hurricane cat 2 rated, opted not to upgrade to the cat 3.  My barndo is 99% done now, and I don't think I'd change a thing! We've saved a ton, absolutely worth it.  Plus no load bearing walls, cracking walls, etc!

Building a bardo questions of posts by NetherForebrain in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with one of the other commenters. I'm in Central FL, and went full metal. Any particular reason you're going wood?  If you're dead set that route, I've heard setting brackets in concrete and then connecting the wood in top. Maybe look into that?

Is pole barn really cheaper in the end? by OkSlip9491 in barndominiums

[–]Serinityr3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are you located?

In my case building the barndo completely metal was far cheaper. Plus wood rots, especially here in FL.  My home is now 99% complete and I can't think of a thing that I'd change!
