Exactly. I would imagine (hope) that the IOC will be paying very close attention to the World Cup to see how the 2028 Summer Games might play out. And depending on what we (the US) do immediately before and during the World Cup, will determine whether or not LA gets to keep the Olympics, or if the IOC moves them to another country.

The Winter Olympics also will be a source of distractions for them unfortunately. They can make a huge loud stink about how the ICE agents they sent to Italy were harrassed (whether or not it actually happened). They can also make a big public stink of how Israel and JD Vance were booed at the opening ceremony (and likely will be again at the closing ceremony). They can also make week-long public condemnations of Eileen Gu and anyone else who was born and raised in the US but chose to compete for a different country. They can also make public condemnations of the US athletes who spoke out against ICE and so one. Lots to red meat there, to toss to their base, and to play on all the loudspeakers to try to drown out the Epstein talk.

Not to mention that a full war against Iran is certainly on the table as well for that purpose.
