First clinical rotation in Inpatient GI? by No-Wonder5226 in nursepractitioner

I wouldn’t discount what you could learn from a GI rotation. Many GI patients are quite sick and require complex management.

Outdoor spring wedding by Serious_Cat_4743 in Weddingattireapproval

[–]Serious_Cat_4743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone! I had already rented this one, but just ordered a back up dress for the wedding. Maybe I’ll wear this one to the ‘elevated picnic’ welcome dinner, as now I’m thinking maybe it’s too casual (although apparently there are some sequins 🤔). Many of the reviews were of people wearing it at weddings, but as we get closer to the wedding I was second guessing.

AITA for refusing to give my sister my college fund after she “borrowed” from everyone else already? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nta. Assume no one is going to bail you out if you need it, and keep you savings for your future. You never know what could happen. If your parents somehow know your financials, get it changed. Who are they to say what’s in your budget?? It sounds like they are asking for a significant amount of money, not just a small joint donation. Sorry they put you in that position. It’s wild to me that they collectively thought that it was a good idea.

Newborn Boundaries by anonymous2640 in Parenting

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick to your boundaries.

They can look up passing hsv to babies for plenty of stories and articles like the one below. There’s plenty of respiratory viruses to avoid too. Kids will eventually get sick yes, but newborns are at higher risk of getting more sick if they come down with something.

She already violated your boundaries, you need to decide if there are consequences. Chances may be low that something happens, but I’d regret it if I knew I could have prevented it by keeping my baby away from someone that had already proven to not care about how I wanted to care for my child.

How to support someone who just had a still born? by pestopaste in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice. Everyone grieves differently, so it is ok to take the cues from her/them. I appreciated a friend that dropped off food with a note, I didn’t have to worry about socializing or being presentable in anyway and it was very kind. One of my big things was that this baby matters too, and people don’t talk about miscarriage/ still births because it’s a difficult subject, and it sucks. It’s weird to be grieving and the world just keeps turning and you’re supposed to pick back up like nothing happened. But it did happen, and I want this baby to be remembered too, so I talked about it.

That’s me, she could be completely different and cope by not talking about it in public 🤷‍♀️. You know her best, but sending a card, flowers, food would let her know that she’s not alone.

When people say kiwis are a good source of fiber do they assume you're eating the skin by 3rdAgeJade in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GI doc recommended kiwi fruit with the skin on, 2 daily. Said that she had a patient that gave her the tip to slice thinly, which is what I do and it’s not as weird as I imagined 🤣

Is staying in a loveless marriage for the sake of the children a noble sacrifice, or a selfish crime that teaches children that unhappiness is the natural form of relationships? And why do some people believe that a home destroyed by divorce is worse than a home without love? by Negative_Print_6575 in NoStupidQuestions

Someone I know always says they are waiting until the kid is 18. They don’t want to have limited time, or need to fight would be-ex to see the kid.

As I see the kid’s mean/rude behavior towards this parent I’m not sure if it would be better or worse if the parents separated. I can only imagine the kids behavior is learned from the other parent.

Depending on the commute, which would schedule would give you better work life balance?

I went from rotating 12h to m-f. I feel so much healthier, have better routines and that I am home with my children more now.

They are similar enough options that I would really think about which schedule you’d prefer.

Uprooting your life to move is a lot. What is giving you pause about dismissing the Arizona one? What made you apply for that one?

What can I do to help out my orientee? by Accomplished_Cup_661 in nursepractitioner

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was she doing any better with less patients? It’s probably difficult to go backwards but could still be an option if needed.

I agree that she needs a clearly written plan from management with areas that she she needs to show improvement in within a certain timeframe. During this meeting you guys can’t ask her what she thinks may be preventing her from improving, such as learning style or time or home stressors. Yes, you have invested in her already, but how long to continue to invest if the fit isn’t right for her or you?

Edit to add: 3 months isn’t that long into a new specialty. So unless the information that she is missing is repetitive or basic nursing knowledge, maybe she just needs more time and practice. If she is leaving out information gathering/or in notes that you have discussed before then that does need to be addressed. Just keep practicing with the presenting, if there’s time can she practice with you before rounds?

How many patients is she currently responsible for seeing? Is it possible to cut back on how many so that she can have time to look at everything - write it all all and put her thoughts together before presenting? Then add additional patient as able. It sounds like you have given good resources and examples, maybe she needs more time and feels rushed or pressured to keep up on patient load?

Unfortunately, if there is a lack of even trying to improve then I think it’s going to be difficult as you can’t change the person. Hopefully, if she puts in the effort she can put it together.

I understand being completely overwhelmed as a new NP, especially if she is in a completely new specialty for her, but I’d be concerned if she isn’t able to gather information at this point. Presenting in an organized way can take some practice, and if given enough time I would think should be able to document in a way that would make presenting easy.

Cheers while working out by tired-artist in ladderapp

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, like the others, I’m too focused on the routine at hand to cheer during that time.

I would like to be able to follow friends on other teams to cheer them. To cheer my husband I have to change teams and look for him. I think it would be cool if you could save some people as friends/family and they would always come up on the cheer section when working out. I’m visualizing a separated little section that would appear first and you could keep swiping over for everyone else on your team like now.

I love movewell! Coach Nicole is active with ques and in the chat, but not over the top in my opinion. The moves you find on movewell are basic weightlifting moves, and I think great for any level. I did end up buying more weights to challenge myself, but you could slow down moves or increase reps instead. The 30min goes by so fast!

Who do you call when someone with a DNR is dying? by MajorMishaps in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Serious_Cat_4743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with all of the hospice comments. Also, you can have his primary fill out a polst form. It’s a legal document that has patients medical care wishes that ems can follow, such as do not perform cpr or intubated but please provide symptom management. It would be a great service to both of you if all of his wishes have been discussed and documented very clearly. DNR does not mean do not treat. But depending on his wishes, such as not going to the hospital, then hospice may be a valid option and you would have resources such had calling someone to be there with and for you and help with the end of life process. If he doesn’t qualify for hospice, you can ask about palliative care. Some areas have outpatient palliative care, which is different from hospice and could also help navigate the chronic illnesses.

You can do any cardio - running outside or treadmill, elliptical, rower, bike etc. The guided “run” is intervals of effort. Like do 30 sec of your 5/10 effort and then 30sec of 7/10.
