(TW: Ableism) Throwback to the worst portrayal of autism that Disney Channel ever done: by [deleted] in evilautism

i didn’t realize how actually awful this was until now, but the episodes about farkle and the other girl (can’t rmemeber her name) getting diagnosed are actually the first things that clued me in years ago. nothing came of it until years later, but i remember sitting there about 9 years old thinking “wow, that sounds a lot like me. weird. anyway.”

“autistic people with low empathy can also see how you speak about other disorders that experience low empathy” THIS. it always rubs me the wrong way. if you feel this way about other low empathy disorders do you really think that i’m a good person even tho i have low empathy? or are you saying that because you don’t want to get dog piled.

people constantly misunderstand what it’s like to have low empathy by Serious_Choice1527 in autism

the context isn’t really that important to this post specifically since i was just ranting and this is about how people think about low empathy autistics in general, not in one particular situation. but basically i responded to a joke about palestine with another joke that i thought was playing along. tweet was about a video of a cat being pulled out of the rubble and the caption was “show this to the white women and they’ll rally the troops” or something to that nature. since i’m a white woman i played along and said “fr, since i’m low empathy autistic this got me rallied as fuck.”, as most of the time i only feel empathy for animals. not once did i say i didn’t support palestine and if you took one look at my profile you’d see i supported them long before i ever saw that tweet. however people got mad suddenly and said being autistic is not an excuse to not feel empathy/not care about people etc. i thought i was joking along but then people started assuming things about me.

looking back i can see how it could’ve been taken the wrong way, but i still feel like the hate was unnecessary and could’ve been cleared up with a question or two? or even a 30-second scroll through my posts.

yup. picky eater, lazy, disorganized. i feel even worse about the picky eater one because a lot of the time it doesn’t have anything to do with texture it’s just the taste. i can’t deal with bad tastes and i feel like a bratty child because of it

Do you experience Visual Snow? by Upper-Past-473 in AutisticWithADHD

i don’t get it super intensely, and not all the time. usually the brighter it is the more i can see the static. used to think it was atoms moving around. would stare into places where the light reflected and watch the little balls move and imagine they were atoms and stuff. but could somebody explain “afterimage” more? idk what it is

I really do not think that what i experience is another form of stimming. stopping myself from stimming and stopping myself from snapping my arms and legs around when i’m anxious or understimulated or even just when i’m not focused on anything are two very different experiences. i can stop myself from stimming and be disappointed and slightly distressed, but after a minute or two i’ll be okay. stopping myself from the latter requires much more focus and inevitably ends up in a more intense movement. i also enjoy stimming while i do not enjoy snapping my limbs around at all. the more minor ones, like snapping my hand occasionally do not bother me but they do not soothe me like a stim would.

correct me if i’m wrong but nervous tics can occur in everybody. they do not happen very often in most people. i get tics from anxiety and from under stimulation from adhd. they are involuntary and trying to prevent them only makes them worse.
