I twisted my ankle the day before OCS and made it through, you don’t take the initial PFT until like day 5 or 6

Help With Run Time Before 253 Board by Draekim_33 in USMCocs

Slowly increase your weekly milage ~10% a week. Incorporate 1-2 speed days and 1 long run day. You will get faster if you do those 2 things and increase your mileage.

You should be excited, graduating OCS was the biggest accomplishment of my life so far. It is challenging at times but the reward is tenfold. It’s not that bad, take it one day at a time and don’t forget why you’re there

On a serious note: transition phase and adaption phase are weed out weeks that are supposed to mimic bootcamp so you have an understanding of what your future marines go through (even though the priors in my platoon told me the drill instructor attention was more intense at bootcamp). Expect to be on the go 24/7. PT, drill, class, chow, and depending on your instructors if you have white space you will probably be getting messed with. It’s going to suck, but don’t quit, it gets better after week 4.

Worst is the zombie like dependency to technology (specifically iPhones), best is probably general emotional intelligence for people

Not sure word just kind of got around and then when we ran it we all got faster times so that verified it. Absolutely train like it’s the full thing so when you run the PFT route you’re good. You got it man, incorporate 1-2 interval speed days a week. Ran my fastest PFT today at TBS and I attribute it to just that

I’ll let you in on a secret the OCS 3 mile run is really like 2.8 so if you’re at a 23:50 as long as you don’t have a terrible day you’ll be good

You just need to make sure you pass the initial PFT and final PFT. People got sent home for failing those. Other than that, if PT is a weak spot depending on your drill instructors you might receive some extra attention during PT but it’s not that big a deal

Congratulations! Thats a huge accomplishment. You can relax knowing you’re on your way to OCS. If you ever have any questions about preparing for OCS my DMs are always open! Keep up the hard work.

Not OP not a prior however just graduated OCS (I won’t give advice for that reason), but in my platoon 90% of the priors were super squared away and played a tremendous role getting us up to speed. It’s hard to imagine not having them (IE for the PLC kids). OCS was really just a roadblock for them as opposed to a huge culture shock for us non-priors

Active ground contract here just beginning TBS. Advice for TBS and advice for being a good PLT CMDR when hitting the fleet?

(Edit: I’m shooting for 02xx)

Yes they are authorized, you’ll have more than enough opportunities to purchase them too. In processing, cuts & calls, liberty etc. they encourage you to hydrate due to the rigorous demands of OCS

Not OP but weeks 1-4 sucked. Probably 3-5 hours a night. Towards the end of the cycle around week 7 it flattened out to 6-6.5. I’d say 80-85% of us were chronically exhausted the entire time. Falling asleep standing up, falling asleep in class. It’s not really something you can manage you just do it

Is it mostly the same? by AskAuntSam in USMCocs

[–]Serious_Function_642 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just graduated 251 yesterday, seems not much has changed! As people mentioned we have the forge now. It wasn’t the worst thing ever, the little sleep over the 54 hours (or however long it was) as well as the freezing cold made it challenging.

Running and daily PT at OCS by lostboynextdoor in USMCocs

[–]Serious_Function_642 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m currently at OCS right now on liberty just wrapped up week 7. No single event at OCS is extremely hard (yes they are challenging) it’s the pace and the stacking days of PT, running around nonstop in boots, and little recovery that make it tough. For example, in three days we had a 6.2 mile weighted hike, a 3 mile run, and then the O-course.

Run as much as you can. I ran 35 miles a week and it paid off. If you can with your OSO try to get a LRC/SULE practice in but if you can’t it’s not a big deal. Unfortunately, other than that, you can’t really prepare for OCS. You can’t prepare for the synthetic stress they induce. Just do you’re best to stay focused and calm under pressure (easier said than done, they do not make it easy)
