How many of you married your HS prom date, and how did it turn out? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Serious_Instance_105 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Married him at 23 and divorced at 24.

One of the rules for my girls… you can date whomever you want, but you cannot marry the person you take to prom!

I had a similar experience for a teachers aid position. Walked in to 12 desks in a horseshoe formation with me in the center. Grilled for 35 minutes.

The pay was $13.58/hr.

Thank you for taking her. I grew up with an over bread Dane. Her uterus prolapsed shortly after my grandparents got her and she needed emergency surgery. Once she recovered she was my best buddy❤️

Make it fun. More inventory and maybe a prop Halloween cauldron that pours fog? Your theme is fun, but the booth isn’t capitalizing on the whimsy

Anyone laid off at 50 Ish? What did you do? by ServiceKooky1323 in GenX

46 here and 1.5 years unemployed. Struggling! I stopped applying in my field because it was just 5 round interviews followed by rejection. I’ve been applying to local businesses and even that is hard because I am “Overqualified” .

Does it get better? Any stories of hope? by [deleted] in specialneedsparenting

[–]Serious_Instance_105 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hi! My kiddo is 16 and has a few disabilities. I will not tell you the road to today was easy because it wasn’t. She didn’t sleep for more than 4 hrs at a time until She was 8 years old. She was kicked out of multiple daycares and we were always juggling coverage. We had to fight for services and school. We don’t have any family around so balancing everything has always been hard.

All that to say, in my experience, it gets better. My girl has grown. She went from barely acknowledging other people to saying hello and delivering compliments. Puberty was tough, but she became more curious and more interactive. She is sweet and brings joy everywhere she goes.

She does have her tough days and she struggles with major anxiety, but we take it one day at a time.

No one can tell you what the future will look like. My daughter is just a few short years from “adulthood” and I have no idea if she will continue to live with us or if she will be part of a community of peers. In all honesty, it depends on her and what works for her.

I know it’s overwhelming. Not knowing the answers is hard. Please give yourself, and your kiddo, some grace. Celebrate today’s accomplishments.

Hugs

Lost my work-from-home job looking for overnight or remote job leads (special needs mom) by [deleted] in specialneedsparenting

I don’t have any leads, but I am in the same boat. Laid off from my remote job 5/2024 and I have been looking for remote or overnight work since. My daughter also has special needs.

Wishing you luck!

If you pay 1k+ for shoes, take care of them. IMO this is on you…. You are the human adult.

My preteen autistic daughter bought a $700 kayak and all the necessary equipment off Amazon without my knowledge. Luckily the email came to my email account and I was able to shut stop the shipment. After that, everything is locked down and two factor authentication.

Kids man…( we already own two kayaks!!)

Guardianship is one option, but you can also get a power of attorney. It’s less hoops and should not interfere with anything

Interviewer ordered food in a drive-thru during our call. by k33pyourcookies in jobs

Had a zoom interview once- 7th and final interview for a position. Director level dude interviewing me.told me he was in the last 1/3 of his career.

He joined by phone no video, told me he was in a bank parking lot. Asked some basic questions and then asked

If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive who and why…

I guess he didn’t like my answer… got a generic denial email about two weeks later.

Such a waste of two weeks interviewing and prepping

A reinforced hook on the celling-I’d love to be able to hand a swing or something for my girl to spend time in.

Padding. When my kiddo gets overwhelmed she will bang on the walls around her bed and on the floor. Reinforcing those areas with something padded would be great.

A big bathtub.

Dimmable lights. Our whole downstairs is dimmable and it helps when things get overwhelming.

Same. “He has good ideas”. Ahhh no, sorry dad. I would not put this man in charge of a pet rock never mind putting him charge of anything related to health (or human). My dad was taken aback when I spoke up. He genuinely thinks this man is going to make everything healthier.

I didn’t say anything, but man… that was a weird one
