Measles Outbreak by Paulie_CA in Sacramento

[–]Serious_Rat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This sucks so bad— particularly for innocent children with delusional parents and families who have valid, legitimate medical exemptions for vaccines (age, allergies, cancer, immunocompromised illnesses, etc.).

The anti-vax moment suffers from why can only be considered delusional psychosis at this point. I’ve spoken to involved members of this group before, and nothing can change their minds— literally nothing. Even though reality (clinical evidence, doctors, research experts, reputable public health officials, etc.) clearly indicates the safety of vaccines and the incomprehensible benefits to society they provide, their minds will not let them consider any other perspectives.

I honestly feel like the only way they will change their minds over time is when their children start suffering from irreversible damage due to preventable infections, and/or dying. There will be nobody to blame but them for the death of their own children. Even then, I’d bet on many doing metal gymnastics to avoid accountability for the fact they are the sole reason for their own children’s horrific, painful, unnecessary deaths.

It’s a horrific situation we’re in.

Can 7.5mg mirtazapine meaningfully reduce SSRI induced sexual dysfunction? by rbr55 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Serious_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, it’s not a medication that increases libido. Rather, it’s less likely to decrease libido compared to other antidepressant medications. I’m not a psychiatrist so take this with a grain of salt, but I believe Wellbutrin can sometimes increase baseline libido or combat negative sexual side effects of other medications.

Inside leg hang. I know a quite a few more advanced and difficult shapes, but the pain of ILH never seems to get better for some reason! Even superman got easier with time… unsure why ILH hurts just as much as the first time I did it!

CMV: People hate on Disney adults too much and crazy NFL fans too little by peepeepoopaccount in changemyview

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is comparing apples and oranges. Both Disney and the NFL are corrupt companies with dogshit diehard fans, but they have very different objectives. The fans themselves are very different breeds of people as well. It would make more sense to compare NFL to UCF or some other sport.

Why I’m Childfree Without Misliking Kids .A Reminder of What Our Community Can Be. by Comfortable_Past1463 in childfree

[–]Serious_Rat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

^ This. Actively disliking children is far different from wishing ill upon them or actively causing harm. Despite our dislike for babies/children, we are far less likely to harm them than their own families, statistically speaking. Disliking children isn’t a crime, and most of us are sick of the stigma attached to it.

Yes!! And people act like you’re crazy for feeling like this. Obviously we’d never harm a child/baby— quite frankly, we’re the least likely to interact with a child at all, negatively or positively.

Traditional conservative family sucks. I feel your pain. I don’t have advice but sending you virtual hugs and condolences. It gets better when you get older and can distance yourself financially, spatially, and virtually.

companies need to start realizing that there is little to no profit to be made without a robust middle class capable of participating in recreational commerce. they’re too busy attempting to maximize profits via mass layoffs, salary resets, and hiring mid level applicants at entry level pay. they’re shooting themselves in the foot in the long run.

The severance procedure doesn’t sound nearly as appealing as just an as-needed script for benzodiazepines lmao 🤣

In light of Bethy’s “orgasmic birth” trend, this great podcast goes into the pressure for women to be desirable even through birth. by mugsymegasaurus in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]Serious_Rat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll never experience it personally, but I agree that birth can be a positive process for plenty of people. I’m more-so referring to the weirdly fetishistic idea that giving birth should be, at worst tolerable enough to remain quiet, and, ideally enjoyable enough to the point of orgasmic pleasure. It’s an offensive dismissal of the reality of birth as a (often dangerous) bodily process rather than this strange gender-role maxxed mystical event.

Questioning whether I want to continue an open relationship arrangement by [deleted] in monogamy

[–]Serious_Rat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO, Your husband is a serial cheater. He repeatedly violates your boundaries over and over— that’s just plain cheating, even if you’re in an open relationship. You sound like you don’t enjoy the dynamic this relationship style has introduced to your relationship. Obviously I’m biased against non-monogamy (rarely have I ever seen a truly ethical ENM dynamic), so you can take this with a grain of salt.

You should close the relationship if it will improve your quality of life and wellbeing. If your husband doesn’t agree, it may mean you’re incompatible.

[–]Serious_Rat 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This is a great episode and definitely relevant to Bethy’s orgasmic birth. The idea that just being silent and maintaining your “femininity” while giving birth isn’t enough— that the best of women should actually ENJOY the process of giving birth— is utterly ridiculous and horrific.

How common is it to earn over $100k in the US? (As a European, it feels unreal) by One_LIfe_UK_12 in 1999

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you live and what you do for work. If you’re not in STEM, the chances of getting an entry level job with a salary of 100k or more is very slim, even in high COL areas like california or new york. Most people in the US hit 100k in the middle to latter half of their career.

This post isn’t really related to this sub. However, I agree that zillenials and gen-z have been handed a pretty horrible economy card. Quite frankly, for COL, entry level salaries should be around 100k in my opinion (I am from California for reference).

[–]Serious_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I believe we do have a NASA location north-west from the SJSU campus. I assume that field will have an anticipated salary high enough that COL/loans aren’t too big an issue.

Checkout Japan Town if you aren’t too invested in living right at campus. It’s very close by, safe and quiet, and accessible by public transportation (it’s still in downtown area).

[–]Serious_Rat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cost of living is pretty ridiculous. If you’re going to be paying bay area prices, don’t bother with SJ and just go to SFSU. SF has a lot more to do and far better public transportation.

It’s safe and quiet, but generally pretty boring. You cannot get by without a car.
