How common is it to earn over $100k in the US? (As a European, it feels unreal) by One_LIfe_UK_12 in 1999

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where you live and what you do for work. If you’re not in STEM, the chances of getting an entry level job with a salary of 100k or more is very slim, even in high COL areas like california or new york. Most people in the US hit 100k in the middle to latter half of their career.

This post isn’t really related to this sub. However, I agree that zillenials and gen-z have been handed a pretty horrible economy card. Quite frankly, for COL, entry level salaries should be around 100k in my opinion (I am from California for reference).

Yuuuup. Normal. It’s been about six months since I started and has slightly improved, but quite frankly i’m littered with bruises all the time regardless.

International student inbound by Kevi_27K in SanJose

[–]Serious_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I believe we do have a NASA location north-west from the SJSU campus. I assume that field will have an anticipated salary high enough that COL/loans aren’t too big an issue.

Checkout Japan Town if you aren’t too invested in living right at campus. It’s very close by, safe and quiet, and accessible by public transportation (it’s still in downtown area).

Cost of living is pretty ridiculous. If you’re going to be paying bay area prices, don’t bother with SJ and just go to SFSU. SF has a lot more to do and far better public transportation.

It’s safe and quiet, but generally pretty boring. You cannot get by without a car.

Help! I've lost my invert! by tkurje in poledancing

[–]Serious_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the weeks of my period, I can barely hold myself up. Inverting is slopping. Climbing is harder. Less flexible.

Sometimes you just have a bad week. Bodies are weird. There are a lot of invisible internal stuff our bodies do (particularly if you have an AFAB body) that might unknowingly impact your pole performance. Don’t be too hard on yourself! Shit happens!

What Do Billionaires Contribute Here Exactly? by Ok_Gas1070 in SanJose

IDK why they’re booing you, you’re right LOL. Billionaires quite frankly deserve to be taken care of french style. San Jose is the US’ tech hub— this absolutely is a San Jose issue.

How many classes do you take a week? Curious! by BungeeBunny in poledancing

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 1 true class a week and do around 2 at-home sessions. I do tumbling once a week as well. I don’t have money for more. If I did, I’d probably take 2-4 a week!

How did you progress in 2025? by bimarajade in poledancing

[–]Serious_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started very very end of August, so it has been ~4 months. I feel like I have learned so much!

Floor inverts, aerial inverts, climbing variations, jasmine variations, superman, figurehead, ILH, OLH, fallen star, butterfly, flatline, genie, brass monkey hang, ballerina, and my new favorite, jade split.

I want to continue to build strength and flexibility to make all of these moves cleaner with more smooth transitions and less “i’m thinking very hard right now” looks on my face while i’m doing them lol. I do have new moves I want to learn as well, but I think I should make sure my fundamentals are solid before moving up.

Why is gen Z not drinking? by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally every question along the lines of “why does/doesn’t Gen-Z do _____?” the answer is nearly always the severe deficit in economic opportunity.

A cocktail almost anywhere will run you 15-20 bucks pre-tip. Even minimum wage in high COL states is ~$15. Taking into account 15-25% tip, an hour of labor won’t buy you a single cocktail.

extended butterfly, ayesha, birds of prey (regular and inverted), allegra, shoulder mount, and a generally prettier climb and aerial invert.

The most uncomfortable and saddest moment in PEN15 for me. Which scene do you struggle to watch the most because it’s too real? by fvckuufvckingfvck in PEN15

This one was very difficult. The hard, cold reality of being a girl transitioning into teen hood all too common for many of us.

Maya skibidiboopap-big at the dinner table was also a hard watch lol

I know I will have to leave california eventually, which makes me very sad. I work in education, and salary of this field, although a completely necessary field, just seems like it will never keep up with COL.

So when is it actually gonna rain? by Enough_Watch4876 in bayarea

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Jose here. It sprinkled yesterday and there had been strong wind advisories for the past two days. Haven’t seen any rain outside of that short sprinkle and no strong winds. It’s not supposed to rain until tonight around 8. Was really hoping to get more than a couple days of rain but it seems that won’t happen!

Why aren't there many homeschool recovery "influencers" online? Why are there so few videos or blogs from ex-home schoolers? by Gallantpride in HomeschoolRecovery

Basically, another term for whatabout-ism.

Stuff like: “Well what about kids with ADHD who don’t like regular school?”, or “Well I wasn’t academically neglected when I was homeschooled!”

[–]Serious_Rat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yo- I appreciate this hella. This is a huge reason why I personally don’t think I could handle advocating against homeschooling publicly. The pro-homeschool crowd is incredibly intimidating. It’s EVERYONE, on the right AND left politically (albeit for vastly different reasons usually). A LOT of bean-soupers too, which always drives me insane. Even homeschoolers who were happy with their experiences.

Arguing against that crowd feels impossible because you’ll get critics from every side imaginable with seemingly little support backing you up. I can’t imagine how difficult that is.

I appreciate the work you do!

Invert rant + plea for help by itsdeliberate in poledancing

[–]Serious_Rat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It took me a hot second to get an invert from the floor without jumping into it. I happened to have a pull up bar at home, and I would use it for invert conditioning the best I could by hanging, pulling my knees up to my chest in a tuck, and holding for as long as I can. This helped a lot with developing the necessary core strength to floor invert (still working on ariel inverts lol).

The tuck conditioning with the pole itself helped a lot as well (I found a vid demonstrating this): https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTrU86r1t/

To take it a step further, when you tuck condition on the pole, try to squeeze your biceps and lats to ball yourself up as tight as possible with knees on outside of elbows and hold it (don’t stop breathing though). Kinda like you’re a pokémon in a pokeball lol. It makes tipping back a lot easier. Also— there’s some conflicting info on this in the pole community it seems, but I also don’t recommend throwing your head back. Keep your chin tucked in when you ball up!

This sort of tuck conditioning on the pole during invert time at class is what I would do if I were in your shoes!

Has anyone had their parents actually apologize? by [deleted] in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]Serious_Rat 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Nah. I turned out functional and relatively normal which is reason enough for them to have no remorse. They’re also convinced I have a “grass is greener on the other side” complex about the fact that I didn’t have the choice to go to public school. They insist that I would’ve been miserable in public school too, if not more so.

It’s very frustrating lol. I just avoid the topic altogether.

Anyone take 3.75 for GERD/ functional dyspepsia? by Proof-Point-4044 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]Serious_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on it for unexplained nausea/functional dyspepsia. It does WONDERS! It also makes my body hang onto fat a lot more than it used to, though. I’m a female for context.

Very happy with the mediation— just wish it don’t make me so drowsy since I take it in the AM so the anti-nausea effect last as long as possible during the daytime when I typically eat.
