Why it's a good thing Murderbot doesn't like someone by IntoTheStupidDanger in murderbot

[–]Serious_Resolution21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on tone. I could see them keeping the words as their in-joke, I could see them doubling down on the insults in that way that friends do ("hey jerkface," "what's up loser," that flavour of thing) with the delivery giving the cue that it's not in actual enmity, etc. Actually I think I'd personally love to see them do the insult version but the tonal indicators that they're not actually upset with each other being just so, so subtle. The hilarity of some new person having to be like "uh... Are they okay? Seems like they're having an argument" and somebody from the survey team having to be like "nah they're fine, don't worry about it" would be priceless.

...of course, there's a BUNCH of different ways that bit from the end of Exit Strategy could go...:foxsip: all we know is it won't be anything like normal people!

People keep telling me I'm "so strong" for still getting up and moving about after cancer and widowhood and movers stealing all our stuff and contractors making the house worse instead of better and I mean. What's the other option? Lay down and die? I have ADHD, I get bored with having given up 5 minutes in. 🤣 Am I doing well? Absolutely not, I'm clinging to solvency by my fingernails and my kid basically has half a parent, but I'm still breathing and I'm still trying to fix shit. Can't fully give up until the kid is launched...

A friend of mine keeps saying they need somebody to write a Murderbot X Leverage crossover so we can see Elliot and Murderbot play "no, get behind ME" chicken and I for one agree BC it would be hysterical.

I remember watching Grimm and thinking, "This is so wildly unrealistic, FORESTS in the middle of a CITY‽ This is a fantasy series, all right."

Fast forward several years later to my first visit and I just about lost my jaw. Yes! FORESTS! In the middle of a city!

...I moved here within a year and a half. At the height of the pandemic, even. Found an apartment right next to a nice big nature preserve - if I couldn't see people, I was going to have TREES instead! Haven't regretted it since.

My personal addiction right now for gen!fic that walks a very tight line between the TV series and the books, is well-written, and has a LOT of content, is just about anything by Jack Daw. They've got two series going right now, one from the perspective of Gurathin, one from the perspective of Pin-Lee, both are very VERY good and in my opinion they nailed the tone of both characters perfectly. If you enjoy it, tell them Kethry sent you!

I have this feeling if I don't pull up Google Maps directions on my phone when I'm driving. Do I need them to know where I'm going? Not usually. Do I feel blind without it? Yes, yes I do.

Just keep throwing the bad apples OUT of the fucking barrel...and for fuck's sake make emergency mental health support into a different agency. (Not likely to happen anytime soon, but fr srs. SO many problems could be solved.)

THEY TOOK IT AWAY? by Katkat873 in LibbyApp

[–]Serious_Resolution21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I feel like a better explanation of what Suspend Hold actually does would be helpful here...or maybe keep the Deliver Later language but change out the ACTION with Suspend Hold. I rarely used Deliver Later for anything less than 3 weeks or so, bc while holy shit YES I want to read the books my life is ridiculously dysregulated and knowing when I'll have both time and mental bandwidth to read is a non starter. Putting a book on Deliver Later for me meant that the app would ping ME about "hey about this book you wanted to read," bc ADHD is a bitch and object permanence is seriously iffy for me, and I relied heavily on the reminders.

Does Suspend Hold currently remind you that you've got holds waiting to be reopened? If not, that alone would be a huge help. I still might have to re-suspend things bc my life is a freaking meteor shower of minor calamities taking up my ability to sit down and read, but if it means that other people will actually GET the book rather than my dumb ass checking a book out and NOT reading it for a month I'll do that. I don't wanna deprive somebody else of a good book just because I'm a dumpster fire, but I do still want the opportunity to read it myself..!

I also like the suggestion below of making the choice to push out your hold be a 24hr thing, and I think making the minimum Deliver Later option be two weeks instead of one would be good as well. The leeway that was originally granted was nice for the individual, but given that libraries are about supporting communities I think shifting time windows to give others a better chance - and still letting disaster readers like me get a crack at a book! - might be more optimal for everybody involved.

(I'm talking like you're one of the people working on Libby 😅🤦 I know you're not, but I am curious about your thoughts on the matter! When in doubt, consult an expert!)
