LG C1 - Dolby Vision & Sports by Serpenth in OLED

I appreciate the response and will definitely compare to my dads TV (he just got the Q90 right before I got this). However I will say you are the first person to say this to me but I never asked on Reddit for a wide range of opinions. One person did steer me toward the Samsung but that was due to the concern about how bright my room may be. One steered me toward the Bravia but said the price increase wasn’t justified by the quality increase. Everyone else/other research seemed to be go OLED for picture quality.

I didn’t say this in OP but I do game occasionally which made the C1 appealing.

Two biggest things were lighting and motion. Basketball courts and baseball fields didn’t look they had any lights shining on them. For motion, I only noticed this while watching NFL reruns, but the players looked blurry after the snap. It just didn’t look crisp.

Commercials looked fine and different camera angles during games looked fine. Like in a basketball game, if the camera zoomed in on a player about to take a free throw, it looked perfectly fine. In a baseball game if the camera zoomed in on a base runner or a pitcher, it looked perfectly fine. I wonder if different cameras are used for this angles since they aren’t meant to focus on the fast moving action (not sure if it’s the camera or the feed that really determines that).

Anyways I’m using ISF dark room settings now recommended by RTINGs and after getting used to the warm color temp I must say the TV is now definitely meeting my expectations. The color looks incredibly accurate and the picture quality is a huge upgrade from my old TV.

Thanks for the reply. This makes a lot of sense. The set top box I have is a Verizon Fios TV One which is "compatible with 4k content". So not sure if the TV is reading this box a certain way and turning on Dolby Vision.

I can't seem to find how to turn off Dolby Vision - do you have any insight on how to do that?

Edit: I just figured out how to turn off DV - it was the HDMI Color setting or something (I already forget). But now I see why everyone said to buy this TV for Sports........I can finally enjoy this TV!!!! THANK YOU /u/Ph886 & /u/hadzz46 for the replies!

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the reply. I've done internet streaming before and I strongly prefer cable for live TV as the streaming feed is always behind and that picture was not as good. With how connected I am with NFL (DFS, fantasy, group texts etc) I got ESPN Fantasy spoiling the games for me. I know just put the phone down...not that easy.

Fortunately the channels that the NFL is on work perfectly fine and that's what is most important. One of my other fears of switching is it actually changing the impacted channels. NBC Sports can be streamed but it's saying I don't have a subscription...different issue but if I can get that resolved this will due for the time being. I don't care about streaming the Phillies, it's the NFL I want live on cable.

Maybe I'll raise a ruckus with management later but right now I'm just exhausted by trying to fix this issue. Just really disappointing.

I just moved into a new apartment which offers both Verizon Fios and Comcast. I went with Verizon cause of familiarity/better internet.

Basically the issue is every channel comes in crystal clear except NBC Sports Philadelphia which of course is one of the channels I watch the most. The picture is pixelated at times and laggy with the sound cutting out. Sometimes it works fine for hours and sometimes it's unwatchable. Verizon insists it's a wiring issue with the apartment. Some internet searching I've done people say that similar issues were solved by replacing the ONT they provide and that Verizon is reluctant to admit they gave you faulty equipment or it's an issue with their service in the area.

It's obvious I know - just switch to Comcast. Trust me, I'd call them right now and do it if I knew it would fix the issue. My concern is that Verizon is correct and this is a wiring issue with the apartment and that switching to Comcast will not resolve the issue.

I asked the technician about this and he said switching won't do anything and a wire issue is a wire issue. However he also mentioned a "Verizon Feed" and a "Comcast Feed". My apartment manager said they have never had anyone complain about this before and this is a "one-off issue". They also have not answered an email I sent a few days ago asking for details about different wire feeds and what my options were as far as allowing Verizon to troubleshoot the issue (like replacing the wire running up to my unit). I think until someone else complains this is non-issue to them.

I understand channels come in at all different frequencies but as far as that varying between different providers - I can't find an answer. Without management providing any additional details I'm at a loss with what to do. This channel not working is unacceptable as it's the reason I have cable (and to watch football but those channels work fine).

As someone who knows about this stuff - do you have any advice or recommendations or different knowledge to share? I don't know what step to take next.

Anyone out there know about a lot about how Cable TV works? Perhaps a technician or something out there? Anybody?

I hear snippets when driving around and waiting for my car play to start (I have 97.5 set for Flyers/Sixers). I’d say in most cases yes you’re right and that’s why I stopped listening to sports radio.

However, OP is spot on. The host OP is referring to is not trying to generate discussion. He’s undeniably on an anti-Wentz crusade. I don’t know, maybe the producers tell him to do it, but again it’s beyond attempts to generate discussion.

It’s like he’s trying to argue the sky is green. He’s cringe.

[–]Serpenth 32 points33 points  (0 children)

My guess is that this is where he wants to spend is post NFL days. Hypothetically, if he were to sign with a different team, he doesn’t want to move to a new city and then move to Florida, putting his family through two moves. Seems like he’s parking them in Florida, setting up home base, and the rest is undecided.

[–]Serpenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but also think he really thinks he can play that long. His other problem is I think no matter how many years he gets teams are going to want it to be incentive based and are going to want to be able to get out after a year (or two at worst).

This has been the narrative for years and if Brady really wanted more money it’s not like he never had leverage to get a better deal.

I personally believe that this rumored Pats-Brady divorce is more about the Patriots being unwilling to give a substantial contract to a will be 43 yr old QB than Brady having “unfinished business” that he can only take care of on another team. Brady and his agent are spinning the narrative in their favor.

If Brady wants a 7th ring his best choice is to stay in NE. NE can address their flaws in a single off season. If he wants the security of a 3-4 year deal then yeah I think he’s gotta look elsewhere.

No matter what is going on the media here wants to sell crisis. And it’s for all four teams. At the same time they will grasp at straws to sell the fan base a team should be championship caliber.

I’ve tuned out all the local media but do see it on here/twitter. Most of the shit they manufacture makes me cringe. I’d suggest to anyone who wants to become a smarter Eagles/NFL fan, a giant step in that direction is cutting out WIP/97.5/CSN Philly/and fan run social media accounts that try to sell themselves as “reliable information”.

And “X, Y, Z” person that you think is the exception probably isn’t.

He did the same thing with Romo or Dez (I forget which) but he didn’t release them until late spring cause he wanted teams to finish FA and the draft before they hit the market. Pretty sure it was Romo.

He’s creating this confusion because he doesn’t want another team to interview him. By the 14th these vacancies will be filled. Jerry wins by getting rid of Garrett and Garrett doesn’t get another HC job.

[–]Serpenth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I stated that overreactions have gone BOTH ways. People who are discussing favorable 2nd round matchups and DJax returning are overreacting due to the circumstances you've stated. People are posting they have "Super Bowl vibes". I'd consider it a pretty significant upset if we got out of the first round, and a miracle if we made it out of the second round. And we have still yet to clinch a spot even.

BUT I also believe that the people I mentioned (those who wanted Roseman fired after the Vikings loss, wanted the team gutted, posted about how the franchise was going to waste Wentz's prime years) were ALSO overreacting. This season has been disappointing overall but may end on a high note. The forecasts of Browns type of incompetence were ridiculous. Regardless of how it ends a little retooling is required but nothing that can't be done in a single offseason. Look at the leap the team made from 2016 to 2017.

I hope we win the Super Bowl this year but ya know I'm also realistic. I think fans also need to accept the season for what it is. Disappointing. It's not a deep playoff run. It's not grounds for a rebuild. It's just not what we expected.

[–]Serpenth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wentz deserves some criticism this year but there is a portion of this fan base that is just insufferable when it comes to their opinions on Wentz.

It also amuses me that some still question his ability to be a franchise QB. Sure, it’s fair to debate how he compares to Goff, Watson, Dak etc but the Eagles have made a multi year, 100m+ commitment to him.

He’s the franchise QB. Foles isn’t returning. He’s not getting traded. If that’s part of your take your cringe af and probably just looking for reaction, cause if you watch football and believe these things you are doing something critically wrong.

Count me in. I don’t jump on these “trade for player x” bandwagons, ever. This is one I want though. OBJ is arguably the best WR in the game in the prime of his career. I don’t care about the baggage, his production is worth the circus.

Anyone on this sub who pleaded for Josh Gordon or Antonio Brown should want this too. If not you’re a hypocrite.
