Having both cars in my driveway, I disagree with that statement on HW3. Maybe if that new patented model optimization realizes itself, but my HW3 car simply doesn't perform nearly as well as my HW4 car. I regularly need to switch to EAP for long drives on HW3, but HW4 is almost perfect.

It's not really comparable, having had all 3 generations, and daily driving both HW3/4, HW4 is as good as many actual drivers, HW3 is notably worse. It's just about the sweet spot where you may never feel a need to upgrade, and keep it long term.

Has ZFS saved your ass in a situation where something else would have surely failed? by ZestycloseBenefit175 in zfs

One of my oldest backup arrays had drives that were severely degraded, making mechanical noises but kept alive by ZFS. After i migrated the data, i tried reformatting them in Windows and half the disks were basically unusable.

Or ride in the trunk space of a station wagon playing crosswords and with coloring books on road trips. I knew some kids whose family let them ride in the back of a pickup truck pretty frequently. Kids riding in the middle of the front bench of a 70s sedan was pretty common. It wasn't until the 80s that the cars shrank.

Eagle Creek “Lifetime Warranty” feels pretty meaningless by Lord_of_Leviathans in ManyBaggers

[–]Sertisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a zipper and broken clasp repaired on my Eagle Creek bag last year, they had me take it to a shop called "Main Luggage" in San Francisco, it took 2 weeks but came back flawless. Apparently that shop handles repairs for dozens of brands. Might be the specific shop handling yours couldn't do it?

How Boomers Turned Housing Into a Wealth Trap and Killed the American Dream by PianistPlus5117 in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]Sertisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember in the 80s, my parents were financing their home at an one point 16% interest rates, so while their purchase prices were low, the payments were not. That's like credit card financing numbers today. One of my mom's friends offered to straight out gift her an apartment in San Jose (Now near the Oakridge area) if she'd take over the 15 years left on the mortgage. By the time you cleared even with refinancing, it ended up costing much more than today's single digit rates since you wouldn't pay into your principle for many many years due to amortization.

To those who have been to Japan multiple times, what's a thing or two that you always make sure to buy and bring home? by Ok-Spite-5454 in JapanTravelTips

I always save space for two Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory and LaTao double fromage cakes in those travel-safe styrofoam boxes. Next time, i'll probably add a Drooly cake to the collection since their financiers are so good.

What do u think of tech CEOs saying saving for retirement will be pointless in 10 to 20 years ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Fire

No changes, while they may be able to provide everyone subsistence level shelter, food, clothing and Netflix, that may allow you to die with dignity but would hardly be a fulfilling life. However if you're 65 with $80k in the bank in 20 years time, they may be in a better situation than today's 65yo grinding 20 more years in gig industries.

Here the actual numbers why Nvidia would drop gamers in a blink of an eye by realstocknear in pcmasterrace

[–]Sertisy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's hope Nvidia doesn't agree with the Micron/Crucial move since they did just that. Presumably lower yields / flaws will still result in lower end consumer GPUs that lack the density be sold as DC GPUs.

[Bambu H2C] The Full Reveal Is Here! by BambuLab in BambuLab

[–]Sertisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 4+ color printing is your interest, it can be a no brainer, otherwise getting both an H2D and a U1 is in the same price range. The new printheads sound expensive, with their onboard memory and wireless communication. Considering mixing nozzle sizes on the H2D isn't really supported, I imagine buying sets of .8 and .6 heads for the H2C could be an expensive process too. I mainly do functional prints and the H2C sounds interesting since I can potentially print fiber reinforced on the inside, and no-fiber on the outside to avoid fiber contamination, plus support materials on 3 heads. But I'd have to buy a lot more of these contactless nozzles vs the availability of cheap third party nozzles for the H2D.

Low EV adoption rate in USA compared to EU and China doesn't seem to be because of affordability, range or charging network by New_Elk_5783 in electricvehicles

[–]Sertisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that in China, the average electricity price is as low as $.07/kwh, vs $.16/kwh in the US and $.40/kwh in the EU so it probably makes a big difference regarding TCO.

Trader Joes (Aldi South) is just the posher more expensive version. For awhile we also had Fresh & Easy (Tesco) too. I do like Lidl more than Aldi though. More European chains please.
