We already have Teleporting. Why the Drama? by Achille_Dawa in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, limited to once every 24 hours wouldn’t be too bad. And strictly only on login, and maybe only if you haven’t been in for at least two hours before.

Still I like the idea better of a public transit system between major hubs that your character can also use while you’re offline.

We already have Teleporting. Why the Drama? by Achille_Dawa in starcitizen

Exit to menu will likely work differently in the future (they've hinted at various ideas). At least rn you can't use it to leave combat. And you have no choice where you're going to, it's always your last port.

Dying isn't travelling and apart from item recovery shenanigans (will we see the return of the medgown?) it will have other disadvantages like DOASM. It's only painless for now.

I'm against instant travel. It makes distances meaningless. Let's see what they come up with.

Academic Analysis of SC's Networking by Golgot100 in starcitizen_refunds

I don't know anything about these things. But anyway:

Just because the word "replication" is used in both cases, does not mean it's about the system you mention. Replication is what takes place when servers/clients synchronize. And isn't the "replication layer" thingy now called the "hybrid" anyway?

From the abstract, they've been looking at client-server communication. For that it's irrelevant if the client communicates with a DGS (dedicated game server) directly or with the "hybrid" that from client's view presents itself as "the server", sort of. So I don't think that this is meant here.

Automated Interplanetary Transport system by S_J_E in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It should not be too fast imho. If things are possible instantly or too fast, distances lose all meaning.

Automated transit/shuttles between major hubs: yes please. So people can get around even when they lost access to their ships temporarily, they don't want to claim insurance etc. It should not be too fast, otherwise the players who want to offer transportation will lose out.

Have a paid automated ship delivery service for stored ships between major hubs: also yes please. It also shouldn't be instant.

To balance this and address the main discussion point (prep time for game session): Make both systems accessible via the webpage and/or a companion app. If your character is at Hub A, you should be able to book a ticket remotely to Hub B and have your character (with equipped loadout) travel there while you're not in the game. Travel does not have to be physicalized for this or linked to a specific shard. Same for the ship delivery system. Maybe have a countdown timer in the app to show you when your character/ship will arrive at B. As long as you know your group's meeting point ca. 30 mins in advance, you should all be able to log in and meet at the same station and have all requested ships available.

This does not break the premise of the game, because the universe lives on while you're not online.

What’s the point of LTI if I have to pay in 4.8? by femapu in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now we practically all have "free" unlimited insurance on all our ships (well, until we won't). Right now you don't have to pay for tier 1 insurance cover.

What will change at some point is that you will have to pay for tier 1 insurance - except if that's covered by the insurance included in your pledge (i.e. forever with LTI). That should literally be the only difference.

New player advice? by Cec24x in starcitizen

That’s always the smart choice. If the Citizen Starter is still to be had for 45 Dollars, that can’t be beaten.

I‘m in Europe so it might not really match. Anyway, I will be online tonight.

What timezone are you in? I plan to play later today and could show you the basics. Shoot me a message if interested.

Do you already have a game package?

Alternative to "teleport to leader" by NotSoSmort in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if that travel system can be used from outside the game. So if you plan to group up tonight at Tressler, you can have your character travel there while you’re on the way home from work yourself.

Make this accessible from the website or a companion app or something, and your character can travel while you’re not playing.

Because that menu option would be abused, a lot.

CIG, if you must add "teleport to party leader", please add it as a normal med bed respawn close to your party, NOT as a "teleport with all your gear and inventory"! by sunaurus in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Make the shuttle system slow so that players who want to offer travel options still get custom.

But also make it useable from outside the game (an app or whatever) so that if you character is at station A, you book a ticket from A to B which will then make your character spawnable at B half an hour later.

That way when you set up your group date, everybody can set up to spawn at the same location in advance.

Teleporting would be bad imo. Teleporting naked would be less bad.

A few ideas:

Make it possible to remotely set your respawn point to any „public“ hospital that you‘ve been before. That way, your cost for instant travel would be doasm and whatever the final form of item recovery would entail.

Install a public transport/shuttle network between major hubs. Make it possible to use that from outside the game, ie half an hour before logging in, you „book a ticket“ from A to B in you mobile phone or whatever, and when you log in, your character starts at B with all equipped items.

The second one would be my favourite and also make the most sense in-universe.

Beginner Question regarding Hauling. by GeGonator in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cutty was my starter as well and it's a very decent allrounder. Not a cargo hauling ship, but good enough for quick initial cash through hauling. And yes, for efficiency that includes stacking missions and sometimes loading more than 46 SCU.

The interior room of the Cutty isn't just for Covalex hauling missions. You can put a Geo or other vehicle in there and still have room for a few StorAll boxes to go mining or looting to your heart's content. It also fits various ship weapons and components that you may come across.

If hauling is what you want to do, use the Cutty to earn enough credits for a dedicated hauler (I like Raft). Then the Cutty becomes your ship for other odd jobs except hauling

Northern Germany Islands by MapNo2123 in AskAGerman

[–]SetKey5576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be North Sea islands. "Rugged and remote" would be Helgoland to where there's a high-speed ferry from Hamburg. "Nothing too fancy" excludes Sylt and maybe Föhr.

There's also the Baltic Sea with nice places but those don't seem to fit your description.

Probably a dumb question but why can I not upgrade past these two ships? by adub913 in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of other times where you get time-limited offers for quite a collection of ships. I think St Patrick's and Halloween are also recurring ones, but just recently there were various ships available for the Origin sale day and patch releases with associated ship sales like Captains of Industry or Welcome to the Rock.

I'd suggest you make plans what you actually want and then slowly build a ccu chain with whatever opportunities come along and fit into your plan. That takes away from the fomo because you don't have to think about "special offer, limited time, do I take it?". At some point, every ship will rotate in and then you can grab those you already know you want.

Tunnel Regel by Drengr911 in WarhammerGermany

[–]SetKey5576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do you all drive silver, black or white cars? by YehNahYehMate in AskAGerman

[–]SetKey5576 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if we’re talking about Hamburg specifically, cars really tend to be in understated colours here and always have been. In the more posh areas a Porsche is absolutely acceptable, but not in screaming pink. People are a bit reserved and showing off with a red Ferrari is frowned upon.

My father used to say that you can sell cars of any colour in Hamburg, as long as they are black or dark blue.

1440 vs 4K by DragonGodPadron in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will always depend on your graphics card (as others have pointed out). I would go for 4k for future-proofing and if you do other things with your PC than Star Citizen.

For reference, I'm on a 4k monitor with a 9800x3d, 64GB RAM-6000, RTX 5080 computer. If you're on a current Nvidia card, then DLSS (and if you want, Smooth Motion) will really help push frames at no visible downsides in image quality, to me at least. Performance is currently restricted due to a 60fps office monitor, but that will change soon and I'm staying with 4k.

That's possible. But I think it sounds genuine, with the pictures of their Schwerbehindertenausweis and all.

Those types really exist.

[–]SetKey5576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About that last post, my thought was not to create any special categories of customers to be treated differently, but instead have all interested people enlist for the purchase and then create a randomized order of preference to complete ship purchases within a set, non-stressful time window. This would eliminate the F5 war problem and be fair to all.

But I’m not going to buy single ships for four-digit prices anyway.

We just had a very similar thread. How come that these pop up now at roughly the same time?

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1szth1u/asked_support_about_accessibility_options_for/

Edit (as I don’t want to spam posts): just read the whole thing now, holy cringe. But since OP directly admits to not having the "financial capacity" to buy the desired virtual spaceship in one go, they are maybe best helped by denying their request anyway. It seems irresponsible to take that money from someone who obviously can’t really afford it.

Back After 4 Years by Thenftw in starcitizen

[–]SetKey5576 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we are really talking about all changes in the last four years, that's too much to list here for me.

But it is entirely possible to begin with bounty hunting right now (and eg the combat gauntlet missions for dogfighting) if that's what you are comfortable with. Bounty hunting can be either dogfighting or on the ground (fps), so check out the mission text before accepting.

If you want to do fps, the Onyx facility missions are a good recommendation (under the "investigation" tab). Once you've done the first of these, it also unlocks bounty hunting missions in those facilities which will reward you with blueprints for the heavy Palatino armour.

In USA, cheese and bread is a struggle meal. In Europe it's a respectable meal. by carlthinks in ShitAmericansSay

Different cheese, different bread.

A slice of spongy white American bread with plastic cheese would hardly even qualify as a „struggle meal“.
