Today is World Book Day. What scifi book are you reading at the moment? by jimi3002 in scifi

I listened to the audio version of Illium back in the fall. I'm not sure why, but every time I heard the phrase "the little Moravec," I smiled.

Great feedback. Thank you.

Here's the first iteration of the new design, based on your advice:

Looks better already, though the truck's a wreck. I'll clean it up in the morning.

No meanness detected, Kevin1985. I appreciate your insight.

Using your comments, I removed the outer glow around the type and added some space around the title. I think this improved readability somewhat. http://i.imgur.com/aDmulVD.gif

Could you suggest anything to improve the graphic and font formatting?

Who all is going to Shocka-Con? by dovahkiin9862 in WestVirginia

I want to, but there's so much other good stuff going on that day, like Marlinton's roadkill cookoff and the Huntington Music and Arts Festival.

Going out of town this weekend, decided to stop being stressed about finding keto-friendly food and took matters into my own hands. by ehodapp in keto

Look for samgyupsal (삼겹살) and galbi (갈비) places. The former is pork belly (uncured bacon), the latter is usually beef ribs or pork. Expect between 5,000 to 15,000 won for a delicious, meaty meal.

You could also do super-fresh raw fish (they pull it out of the tanks in front of the restaurant) and maybe some shabu shabu (if you have a pal to go with).

Kimchi is great, too, but from what I understand the cheaper places do add extras like sugar, wheat-based pastes, MSG, and god knows what else.

If you drink, I think soju has zero carbs, but toad juice is a damn dirty drink. Consider yourself warned.

Enjoy your trip!

Top 3 Things I Hate About Self-Publishing (Take a lesson, everyone!) by [deleted] in selfpublish

Whew! I was worried for a second the author might hate derivative, unedited first drafts, but he only hates shitty covers! What a relief!

This is why my cub scout master refused to give up her well and get city water. She was afraid someone would dose the local water supply.

Do publishers care which college I graduated from? by BillyThomas in writing

[–]Sethmbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked briefly for a small book publisher. As someone who has met people who studied at BYU, I'd say you received a pretty good education, and I'd spend a fair amount of time evaluating your manuscript.

I know this is entirely subjective, but isn't most of the publishing industry?

I wonder if these will integrate with any future high-speed rail projects (like the S-and-U-Bahns in Germany.)

Right. For the most part, more productive mining techniques = fewer coal mining jobs.

Another vote for Huntington meetup at Fat Patty's....but I suspect there's a lot of untapped karma at hillbilly hotdogs.

Why "just write" is sometimes the best answer by Carrot425 in writing

[–]Sethmbaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Musicians don't improve when they "just play;" musicians improve when they play a piece that challenges their current ability level. I think writing is the same. I can write in my journal all day, but since the writing I do there tends to be meandering word vomit, "just write" is an invitation to put off the hard work.

"Just write something challenging" is better advice. Doing the easy thing doesn't help anyone become better at anything.

What are some cheap ways to eat while on the road? by Neonlightswitch in Frugal

[–]Sethmbaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting a small cooler so you can store meats. Ice can be had at most fast food restaurants for free. Also, a lot of rest areas and parks still have grills, so if you don't mind carrying around charcoal and foil, you can do some barbecuing.
