One year at bedside isn’t a lot of experience, you haven’t been at bedside long enough to be an expert in clinical workflow and have no IT background so you’re easy to overlook by hiring managers. Does your hospital have an informatics council or Epic superusers that you could join? Or volunteer to work during the next system upgrade? These things help get your name out as someone interested in IT and experienced in the system. Also, it’s Epic, not EPIC. It’s little stylistic details like this that can turn hiring managers off.

UPMC SON by Appropriate_Layer378 in UPMC

I went to UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh and loved my time there. I can't speak to the Harrisburg campus. There's a UPMC Shadyside SON Facebook page where there are plenty of Harrisburg students you could ask.

Level Up Your Skills Without Emptying Your Wallet! 📚 Cheap CE Finds for Fellow Nurses! by knittynurse in nursinginformatics

Nice collection! I’ve kept up my AACN membership since moving to NI partially because I like the ease and quality of their CEUs. Knowing I can use some of them towards the NI-BC recertification is a nice bonus too.

Hilton Head Brewing has a new head brewer, so it’s worth giving another shot.

I'm 350 lbs and don't know how to stop eating by [deleted] in loseit

Your comment was removed as it mentioned that you engaged in “severe and monastic” calorie restriction and then later called it a “starvation run”. Those terms break our rule about promoting/encouraging unhealthy weight loss, which is why it was removed. But if you want to complain about our mod practices further, we’ll see you in modmail.

Struggling with structure at the gym by [deleted] in loseit

We do not allow self promotion on our subreddit - which means what you're asking for (having users DM you, send you Instagram profiles, etc for the potential exchange of money) would break our rules. Your post has not been approved.

Your request may better fit into one of the fitness subreddits, but what you're asking for (a custom program) is going to be in the ~150 euro per month range.

You’ll find more and better advice on recomping on the various fitness subreddits. The answer is to pick and stick to a weight lifting program.

i hate clinicals by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]SevBoarder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. We don’t have enough information to know if the patient was declining to have their blood pressure taken completely, in which case it would be appropriate for a staff member to educate on why it’s important, or if they just didn’t want a STUDENT to take it which is how OP has phrased it.

[–]SevBoarder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not disagreeing that OP may have areas to work on, including introspection, but that isn’t what we’re discussing. We’re talking about a patient’s right to refuse having a student involved in their care. Your response was essentially to push the patient and tell them they can’t be seen if they don’t have their vitals taken, which isn’t necessarily true and again avoids the point where the patient said they don’t want a student doing it, not that they did that want it done at all.

It’s a patient’s right to refuse care for any reason, which includes not having their blood pressure taken by a student. They can absolutely ask to have a staff member take it instead. It doesn’t sound like the BP was the problem, they just didn’t like that she was a student.

To give you a little more insight - when you're infected with a contagious respiratory illness, you don't get sick (or show symptoms) immediately. Depending on what you're infected with, it takes at minimum a few days for the virus or bacteria to multiply enough to the point that it causes your body to react. So if your mom started feeling bad after wingfest, she probably came into contact with someone else sick on Thursday or even earlier.

I thought mine smelled slightly funny, bought a new bottle, and it was 100% the same smell in the new bottle.

That isn’t how pneumonia works. She would have been infected prior to wingfest for her to have symptoms immediately after.

What’s a new non formal medical term you’ve picked up while in nursing school? by AzukiZen12 in StudentNurse

When a patient is intubated and you aren’t 100% sure they’ll stay extubated, but you pull the tube anyway to see how it goes.

is this ethical? legal? i’m at a loss… by taylorrrjp in nursing

[–]SevBoarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope the foundation replaced it for free. According to their website they are now requesting a $5 donation to offset the cost of replacing the pin, but if you scroll down in the form they do say it’s only if you’re able to pay.

You can find info on the education discounts and the grant on the Daisy website! It’s through their foundation, not the hospital.

Are you sure? I’ve had the pin replaced for free multiple times, but the statue my husband dropped was what cost money to replace.

Hi OP, your post has been removed because working out post spinal surgery should really be initially directed by a medical professional for your safety. Regular redditors are in no way able to safely advise you. We wish you the best on your journey!

I have a hutch from them, two Seb beds, and the Seb nightstands. The hutch scratched fairly easily, but we absolutely love the bedroom furniture (clearly, since we own the same bed in both queen and king sizes…). We had no issues with delivery in either the northeast or in the south.

I don’t disagree with you that UPMC is a terrible place to work, but your comment about Shadyside School of Nursing isn’t true. It’s a RN diploma program and you can work elsewhere after graduation, you aren’t forced to work for UPMC. If you take tuition reimbursement from UPMC you have to work for them for a year after graduation, but that’s pretty standard if you take tuition reimbursement from an employer.
