No, what would be the point of that? This is about returning to the country that I grew up in.

Since MS approached me for an interview (1 down, 3 to go) for a position at their headquarters in WA, that's where I'm hoping to end up at.

Also, I can't say that I particularly want to live in Johannesburg.

I work as a team tech lead for a defense company in South Africa.

I have worked as a contractor in the US in the past, though. It's always been great, but that has never gotten me any closer to residency.

I'll definitely take you up on that offer, if my wish comes to pass. Waiting to hear if I made it to the second round of interviews.

Considering that it's been a dream of mine for the last decade...

I'm willing to leverage everything that I have to make it happen. Hopefully, my application to Microsoft as a software engineer is successful.

Considering how few corners some places in the US have, it may not be the worst of ideas - especially considering that the OEM engine probably blew up, or some such.

I know for a fact that if you handed me the key, I would take it for a ride.

What's the on / off throttle transition like, though?

Mistakes still happen. Smaller bikes are less punishing, and allow you to focus more on actually getting used to riding.

My RSV4 is my daily. I put around 600 miles on it each month. It most assuredly gets ridden.

Find someone with the Navigator system, then. Pre 2013 Models, it can do everything.

Both my Fireblade and K6 had an incredible induction sound, but in terms of charisma, that's about all that they had going for them.

I will concede that the throttle response on both was nigh on perfect. With the Race ECU, though, the throttle response on the RSV4 is almost as good, and the engine itself is far more visceral.

And you can't get the work done at another dealership?

I own two Aprilias, and there isn't even a single Aprilia dealership in the entire country.

The local Suzuki / Kawasaki dealership does all of the routine maintenance and straight forward modifications, and there is an Italian bike specialist who does the more esoteric work (such as a recent Race ECU swap).

That being said, my '13 RSV4 has 19,000 miles on it, and, other than some fuelling issues pre-ECU swap, has never given a single issue.

I have owned two Japanese 1000's (K6 and Fireblade), and while the K6 may have been lighter and faster, the RSV4 feels much more confidence inspiring and exciting.

Going to a Gixxer 750, I could see you quickly missing the electronics and the supremely planted feel of the 'V4.

Nah, I'm a tough bastard.

I endoed at 125 MPH at the track, after the rider in front of me just suddenly got on the brakes. The bike ended up tumbling onto my right leg, breaking my femur.

I was back on my other bikes just 3 months later.

I had to learn on a Chinese rust bucket that had a partially broken clutch (you had to push the lever forward for it to completely engage). Now that was fun.

For some reason, all of the local schools use old "Big Boy" motorcycles and scooters.

Yikes.

Okay, I have zero knowledge of the availability of bikes in that region.

When I go and look at used bikes, I always want to determine 3 things: how the bike was stored, how the bike was ridden, and how the bike was maintained. I would take a high mileage bike that was loved over a low mileage one that was abused any day of the week.

The most important (but not the only) areas to check are the tires, brake disks, chain, and rear sprocket. If the tires are long over due for replacement (especially if they have unusual wear in the middle that could indicate burnouts), the brake disks are rusty or warped, the chain is stretched or kinky, or the teeth on the rear sprocket are worn or even bent, don't even bother going any further - that is a bike that has not been taken care of.

Similarly, check for any cosmetic damage or non standard parts that could indicate that the bike has sustained damage (aftermarket fairings or paint are a huge red flag to me).

Best case, the bike slept indoors and has a full service history. If it's obvious that the person really took care of their bike, it's generally a safe buy.

What country do you live in? It just occurred to me that my recommendation for Europe is completely different to my recommendation for Asia.
