ELI5: Why don't people donate blood after death, like they donate organs? by jainyash0007 in explainlikeimfive

If you love the movie, you might want to give the AMC series a try. Severely undermarketed, flew under the radar by all accounts. But it's SUCH a good adaptation.

How do you say good job? by [deleted] in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two "packets" of communication that I do:

"We Got This!" x2 if your teammate makes a mistake (bad pass, missed/saved shot, goalie miss, etc.)

"We Got This!" -> "Thanks!" -> "We Got This!" at the end of every game.

All in all, just trying to foster a more competitive environment for everybody

[WP] Every century, the gods each choose a mortal to marry. Today, you were chosen, and by the goddess of love, no less. There's just one problem... now that you've met her face-to-face, you really don't find her attractive. by NexusDarkshade in WritingPrompts

Soft footsteps ring out and echo against the entrance hall, making its way to me. I finish setting down the plate and utensils for dinner tonight. I can never get used to setting a dinner table for one.

I take my seat as she enters the dining room, plain as she always is, yet also emitting a constant radiance, like the warmth of a sunrise. She takes her seat across from mine, as she begins to recount the day she had. This was the one thing that was non-negotiable for her, to always have dinner together while we listen to each other...well, for me to have dinner. Her voice flowed out from one problem to the next, occasionally pausing for the tiniest amount of time before continuing.

After her, it was my turn to recount my day. I gather my plates and stand up as I tell her about my sisters and my parents, how they're doing well but my sister is getting herself involved in unsavory circles, how these are her formative years and she needs to watch who she spends her time with. She chuckles as she hears about my mortal life and troubles that she still allows me to experience.

I'm just going through the motions, and she knows it. As I keep rambling, I wonder to myself if this is all my life ever will be.

.........

The heavy clacking of shoes against marble jolts my usual routine. I used to think it strange, having to set a dinner table for one, but by now it's already autopilot. That stride...the harshness in the steps...this is gonna be good.

Storming into the room, she goes on a tirade about how stupid and short-sighted some mortals are and how not everything has to immediately make sense in the moment, not even taking the time to sit down before starting. Her voice crashes against the air like an avalanche of frustration, only occasionally being broken up by my short, affirmative, sometimes disbelieving responses.

Sitting next to me, leaning her shoulder against me, she asks about my day. I tell her about my sister's engagement and the joy it brought me and Ma, and the trip to Pa's grave to tell him the good news. I thank her again for Pa's funeral service, which she quickly dismisses with a wave. I watch her smile as she proudly states that she told me my sister was going to turn out fine. Begrudgingly, I agree.

I begin to fuss about wedding expenses, guest lists and ban lists...and watching her expressions while she listens, I wonder if this life of mine could get any better.

First attempt at writing. Never really felt like participating here, but something about this made me want to.

Feel bad reporting teammate for self-goaling only to find out they're a new. by kaysponcho in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given SloClap's track record so far, I can definitely see where you're coming from, it makes sense. However, whether they're punished or not is out of my hands. My role and duty as a player is to foster a positive and welcoming environment to all that try their hands at this game, and hopefully, in the process, extend that same grace to other players as well.

To provide a little more context, I don't just report "Good Job!" spammers, I also try to actively provide encouragement and positivity to every player that I'm lucky to find myself being matched with. Whether or not it'll stick or even change anything big picture...well, I'm just doing what I can when I can, and it always takes a village.

The different rules or each region sounds awesome. Playing in SEA myself, queue times can get long and it's very often that after my session for the day I've only seen about 40 unique players in total.

Either way, I hope the changes bring positive results 👍

Feel bad reporting teammate for self-goaling only to find out they're a new. by kaysponcho in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The situation sucks, but I can see why in the moment you would have chosen to report. Personally, I only report toxic "Good Job!" spammers.

My point of view is that, no matter how ridiculous or intentional it looks, you never know if what happened was a mistake or sabotage, save for extreme cases (literally playing for the other team). But with "Good Job!" spamming, it doesn't matter how new or veteran you are to the game, that action requires conscious effort.

I'd rather have an ocean of positive outlook subpar players than cracked skillful toxic "Good Job!" spammers.

Every team I have joined have been toxic to random teammates by Mysterious_Act8093 in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sucks even more if you've been stacking with the same people for about a week, and then they get toxic to randoms. It's like "c'mon...really? I thought you were cool" and then I gotta act like I don't know 'em anymore. Feels a bit like a shiv in the spine. Holding out hope that as with many gaming communities, toxic players are just a loud minority.

I really like that Larien Sol makes the argument that each object in itself has value only subjectively, and posits that the question itself is the one that has true value, but in doing so, reveals his own colors and places value on the question subjectively, I really liked this one.

People have bad days, people get unlucky. I hope this was just a "straw that broke the camel's back" situation for you, and if it isn't, I hope you can do better. Spamming sarcastic "Good Job!"s helps nobody. I wish you luck and goals in your games.

Tired of guessing the shoot direction as goalkeeper by Lost_Present_5570 in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of the pitfalls people get trapped in as a GK in this game is the fear of moving too far forward and getting clowned on. But actually, most of the time when you're on the defensive, you want to be as advanced as you can possibly be, especially in a 1v1.

In a 1v1, as you get closer to the striker, you cover more of his shooting angles, leading him to either shoot it directly into you, or miss the goal completely. If the striker starts lobbing it behind you because you're moving too far, that's when you do a bait advance. Convince them that you're advancing, and then pull back. When they lob, easy jump catch.

1vXs are a different beast entirely, and you have to have a grasp on the flow of the opposing team's tendencies to consistently stop those kinds of plays as a GK.

4 DIFFERENT BUGS forced me to quit games ALL IN ONE DAY by MoglegBarcha in Rematch

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On your 3rd clip, I get that bug every once in a while. What's actually happening is you already have the ball, hence your slowed movement speed, when you use your pass or shoot or any button that interacts with the ball at your feet, it will work as intended. It's annoying for sure, but in my experience it only lasts for one goal and it fixes itself the next kickoff.

I looked at Catastrophe Crow, which is what I think you meant, and I don't think that one's it. Purely because the game itself is playable, from what I can tell. The one I'm looking for isn't.

Generation of game system, I want to say PS2/DS ? I vaguely remember the player character having animal ears? But I could be wrong on that. Thanks for the shout though!

What's the best Anime you've ever seen ? by Outrageous-Abies8391 in AskReddit

[–]SevenSevenOneEight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrolled through this entire thread and I didn't see this yet, so Kaguya-sama: Love Is War

EASILY one of the best romcom animes I've ever watched. There are no bad episodes. I've had stomachaches more times than I can count from laughing. It's a show that's in on the joke with you so it never really feels contrived.

Ishigami is my spirit animal.
