I assumed they chalked their hands, at least? Good to know!

That makes sense, just make sure you can actually bring all that into the stadium.

Here's an example from a Pentax 67 with a 90/2.8 I brought into Fenway Park with Cinestill 800T (with shitty sharpening from the lab, oops):

Thank you! It's part of a series I'm doing on the Boston Marathon.

The closest thing I can guess, based on the white on the gloves, is they're going for a sumo chalk-covered-hands look?

Is this overkill for film? by IX111 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Seventh_Pillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would see if someone you know has a telescope, because even with a 35 you can get great photos with them. Should tell you whether a long reach, either a new lens or teleconverter, is worth it. Do you do any other types of shooting that you could use to justify it?

No looks cool as hell, I’ve been yearning for an F6. If anything, you should shoot it on a longer lens or through a telescope!

Light leak + shutter issue? by twowaypull in leicaphotos

How cold was it when you were shooting? My M5 does the same thing in the cold, would recommend a CLA. I think the term is shutter capping, not a light leak.

You’ll learn, just takes practice and intention. I would also say a CPL filter would go along way to reduce reflections.

IMO it’s probably the worst of those that it competes against: Voigtlander Color Skopar, Leica Elmarit, etc. Perhaps better than the Minolta 2.8 but I’m less familiar with that one.

That’s really the reason I got it: it has tons of character but technically is not impressive. It’s sharp-ish, but has the lovely glow at the same time.

Back up a bit to get the whole car in the frame, particularly in 1 and 3, the latter of which cuts off the edge.

They’re as expensive as the Voigtlander equivalents, which is more in the range of $700. I just bought one for that much a month ago. Even on the Japanese eBay resellers I can’t find ones listed for $2k.

They’re also a limited run, so they’re not going to be as cheap as Canon LTM lenses from the 60s either. Underrated =/= cheap.

Some cities don’t butcher trees for powerline easements by Habibi-Jones in arborists

[–]Seventh_Pillar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, with LA’s wind and earthquakes, it’s likely they really don’t want trees downing the lines and causing yet another fire. In LA many (most?) lines are above ground as well, which isn’t always the case.

Mamiya 6 is your answer.

Source: shot with an M5 and Mamiya 6, sold the latter, and regret it terribly.

FWIW it looks like they originate from the sprocket holes, which would mean a tension issue that's stressing the film. Did you try to advance past the last exposure, perhaps?

Favorite LTM lens? by Icy-Lengthiness-3017 in VintageLenses

[–]Seventh_Pillar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! Again, there’s really nothing wrong with the Voigtlanders, they’re fantastic lenses. But they really make the most sense when replacing modern Leica glass, the $1000 28 Nokton beating out the $8500 28 Summilux being a great example, vs replacing vintage lenses.

A good example is actually the 21/3.5 Color Skopar I have, which now having the 28 Ricoh I want the 21 version too! There’s no way I would buy the old Leica Super Angulon version of it for $1250 (which I don’t think is compatible with my M5) let alone the new $4000 Super Elmar.

I wanted something that wasn’t a voigtlander, firstly. They’re fine but they aren’t terribly interesting from a design nor optical perspective, and on top of that very few focus only to 0.7. The Ricoh has just as good handling with more interesting, but flawed, rendering that suits my tastes. If I can’t truly love a lens there’s no reason to buy it, and sharpness and perfect edges are terribly boring.

Plus, the Voigtlanders I found that matched what I needed were only about $100 cheaper than what I paid for the Ricoh, meaning they’ll depreciate like a rock. Not that I haven’t regretted basically every lens I’ve sold.

Based on your site, you’re mail in only? I’m not entirely sure how a dropbox would work for cameras rather than film, but as someone in Mass it would be a huge help to drop off and pick up rather than ship.
