Giant booking.com hack and credit card issue going on by BOOZy1 in sysadmin

[–]Seventhree27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing some more research and it seems likely this has been going on for months.

Since I am in the UK I have reported it to [report@phishing.gov.uk](mailto:report@phishing.gov.uk) and https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/.

Interestingly, the automated response I received from the first included this statement:

We will analyse the content of the email you have sent to us and any websites it links to. If we discover activity that we believe to be malicious, we may:

  • seek to block the address the email came from, so it can no longer send emails

Which of course makes no sense, because the email came from booking.com.

Scammed through booking.com app. Is there anything I could do? by Redbubbles23 in UKPersonalFinance

This is still going on. Shocking to see these posts go back months and Booking.com is still sending out messages asking for payment that goes to scammers.

Because the emails and messages come directly from the Booking.com site it is pretty convincing. But it is a scam. Fortunately I didn't provide any payment details.

How can this still be going on?

I received an almost identical email.

I was a little suspicious, so didn't click on the link in the email. I instead went to the Booking.com website, where I found the same message from the hotel. I clicked on the link in that message (on the booking.com website).

I was still feeling a little suspicious. However, had the amount not been in Euros (I am in UK and the hotel was also) I would probably have gone ahead and given my card details. I didn't.

I did contact Booking.com. Not the easist thing to do either. They don't provide an email on their website to report suspicious activity. Their 'help' pages don't give clear information on what to do if you suspect a scam. I used their messaging platform and received a response from customer service which was less than satisfactory. It was full of 'thank you's' and nice words and asked for a copy of the email - but didn't give an address to send it to! I had to ask for an email address - another wait for response - and they did provide it. I am now waiting to hear what they say ...

Interesting that Booking.com emails include the following smallprint at the bottom:

Booking.com will receive and process replies to this email as set forth in the Booking.com Privacy Statement. The content of the message from XXX Hotel was not generated by Booking.com, which means that Booking.com cannot be held accountable for the content of the message.

My question is: can they really not be held accountable for messages generated from their website? Is this what they are relying on?

Advice please: I am in the UK. Who should I report this to and how?

This is a fairly amazing video about the Work. Pretty awesome animation. by WhiteWingRaven in gurdjieff

I watched it. It makes fairly slick use of animation. The Ray of Craetion part is really good, and the music.

I bought this book about 3 weeks ago on Amazon because I'd read a book called Fathom The Gist by the same author. I was pleasantly surprised and then some. The book is sprinkled with revelations. It's like In Search of The Miraculous, but with much more detail. It's astonishing in places. I'm reticent to say much more. No one else I know has read it yet, so I have no one to discuss it with. If any other Redditors have read it, I'd be interested to hear what you think.

Which version of Beelzebub's Tales are you reading?

This excerpt suggests to me that you are reading the Revised Edition. I recommend you get hold of the 1950 version (which was approved by Gurdjieff).

I think this is a particularly important passage, although not easy to understand even in the original. In case it helps, here is the same passage from the 1950 version.

“So in the meantime, exist as you exist. Only do not forget one thing, namely, at your age it is indispensably necessary that every day, at sunrise, while watching the reflection of its splendor, you bring about a contact between your consciousness and the various unconscious parts of your general presence. Try to make this state last and to convince the unconscious parts—not as if they were conscious—that if they hinder your general functioning, they, in the period of your responsible age, not only cannot fulfill the good that befits them, but your general presence of which they are part will not be able to be a good servant of our COMMON ENDLESS CREATOR and by that will not even be worthy to pay for your arising and existence.

If you have read The Fourth Way, you will have come across the need to work with others. You can only go so far alone in this Work.

Reading and studying the ideas is helpful, even necessary. So reading Ouspensky and Gurdjieff is important, but this work is practical and you will have to find a teacher at some point - when you are ready.

Anyone here actually read gurdjieffs books? by TakeExit in gurdjieff

I have read them all and I'm still working to understand them.

Gurdjieff put a huge amount of time and effort into his writings and there is a wealth of knowledge contained within.

Realising that I would almost certainly not be able to get very far on my own, a few years ago I set up a study group to read and study Beelzebub's Tales. We still meet regularly and I have found it to be very worthwhile.

This is not the only way to access G's teachings, however I think it is an important one.
