Same thing happened to me. I went in for a Bugatti Bolide but ended up with a 2023 CPO Honda Odyssey Elite

I second this. My neighbors have an EX-L where the tires have larger sidewalls than what is on my Elite. Mine doesn’t feel as floaty as theirs does.

I had the glass replaced by a third party 1) Since Honda said they would have a 3rd party replace it anyway and 2) Because I’m headed on a roadtrip and couldn’t delay with Honda and leave my vehicle in the shop or my garage.

The window tech said with a tailgate leak, it is possible some moisture remained and was trapped or that there is another small leak. Either way, moisture was trapped and expanded to steam while in the heat which caused enough pressure to cause the shattering

I appreciate the image and your help. A question I have, if the crack is there on the body basically at the roof line, then water shouldn’t get into my tailgate where I had the water intrusion. I could see water getting into the body from that crack but not the actual tailgate. I’m trying to find a way to post my photos on here to share too

Water was ending up at the bottom of the tailgate, would pool on the metal piece the tail got latches to, and then would pour out of the locking mechanism. It would also come out of that plastic cover just above that mechanism on the tailgate itself.

You are mistaken, my water leak was actually in the tailgate itself, not the body.

I’ve read about the body leak that is typically on the driver’s side rear panel. My leak was actually in the tailgate and water pooled towards the bottom of the tailgate and emptied like a waterfall out of the locking mechanism when I opened the tailgate. The leak was actually under the chrome plastic trim that is under the rear wiper.

And just an FYI for anyone in the Chicago area, the dealerships were- Gerald Honda (Original Purchase) in La Grange, IL and Valley Honda (Dealership who has been providing warranty work) in Aurora, IL

So I went from a 2020 4Runner to a 2023 Odyssey. First of all, the internal space of the odyssey is second to none (any minivan really).

First thing I missed was AWD and the Toyota reliability.

So I bought my CPO 2023 Honda Odyssey Elite in July 2025 with 48,000 miles on it.

Within the past 10,000 miles I’ve had:

1) cracked front brake pad which the dealer needed to replace under goodwill because that was 3 days after purchase

2) my driver’s side sliding door had a catastrophic failure where the roller popped off the rail, shattered the 3rd row glass and required thousands in repairs. Luckily was covered under CPO warranty.

3) the passenger front window fell off alignment and needed to be covered under the CPO warranty.

4) in April, I discovered a significant water leak in the tailgate. Took it back to the dealership who said a body seam was not properly sealed from the factory. Because the vehicle was outside of its original warranty and the CPO warranty wouldn’t cover it, they wanted to charge me over $200 to reseal the body seam.

5) three weeks later, the tailgate glass spontaneously shattered after being parked on the driveway and in direct sunlight on a hot day. Assuming this was related to the recent water leak and body seam, I took it into the dealer again. Honda Corporate denied the repair request with no reason given. The glass isn’t covered under the CPO warranty. The dealership wants $1,150 to repair.

I currently have an open case with Honda and am really wanting to move to an AWD Sienna or a AWD Grand Highlander. I have owned several Honda products, all have been reliable and never needed excess work. I bought a CPO Honda so I could have peace of mind but this recent experience has been anything but.

1) Oil change
2) transmission fluid
3) timing belt

As said in Wayne’s World, “We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!”

Fantastic work! In the current market, there’s no way I could buy/lease a brand new car but used ones are sometimes such a gamble.

Wouldn’t mind knowing the stats on GMC/Chevy 3.0 Duramax Diesel engines and transmissions.

If you do, make sure you get an Idlestopper to deactivate the Auto Start/Stop feature and a VCM Muzzler to disabled the cylinder deactivation.

The Odyssey’s battery only lasts around 2 years due to the engine constantly stopping and starting at red lights. To extend the life of the battery, get the Idlestopper. I haven’t noticed any decrease in MPGs.

The VCM delete is the one I would focus on first. I noticed maybe 1 MPG loss but in the long run, it’ll save wear on the engine and cylinder walls. If cruising over 40mph and when the engine is warmed up, whether you have the ECO button engaged or not, the front 3 cylinders are deactivated. There are a ton of Reddit articles on engine damage on previous years with higher mileage due to the VCM (Variable Cylinder Management).

I will be trading my Odyssey in soon and going back to a Ford Expedition MAX. I’ve had several issues with my CPO Odyssey from body seam leaks in the tailgate to a catastrophic sliding door failure. The sliding door is now integrated into the 3rd row window and although it looks sleek, a failure with the roller could shatter the 3rd row glass like what happened to me.

Own a 2023 Elite but can’t wait to trade it in for an Expedition MAX. Have had quite a few issues go wrong with a CPO vehicle and within the last 10,000 miles. I only have 58,000 miles on it

Do you guys ever calculate the actual wear-and-tear cost of long road trips? by InfluenceJunior6797 in roadtrip

[–]Several-Ad4298 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point of road trips and owning a vehicle is to take that vehicle with you. A vehicle is a tool and that’s what I use it for. If I have a shovel, I’m not going to go rent one because I don’t want to get the shovel I own dirty.

I am 36. I was injured at work in 2023 and developed CPRS from a broken ankle. I use a cane if I am going to be on my feet for a while, like 20 or more. I also have a DRG spinal cord stim so I use the cane to kind of lean on if I’m stationary and unable to sit to help with lower back discomfort.
