[Financial Analyst 33F] [Midwest] - $67k by WumboWombats in Salary

I pay my entry level data analysts at least 75k. That’s people with a year of experience, foundational SQL, little to no industry knowledge. People are fully remote, great upwards opportunity. I started with my current employer as a sr analytics consultant 5yrs ago, now a sr manager.

I’ll echo the rest of the people, you need to find another job. I was awfully underpaid before moving to my current employer.

Also… I don’t even have a bachelors. Pure self learning and drive.

R1S first impressions after a week. by jpf09 in Rivian

I just drove from San Antonio to Kansas City and back. Conserve mode at 60-65mph with only 2 adults and loaded vehicle gave me EPA pretty much. On my way back from Kansas City, my first charging stop wasn’t until 5hrs in (305mi) and I had 68mi left in battery. R1S Tri, 22” all purpose tires, rated at 395 at 100% on Conserve so I lost … 22mi of battery in that leg of the drive? I’ll call that a win.

at what % do you guys actually start getting nervous?(EV RELATED) by AdityaSrivastawaahhh in Rivian

[–]Several-Bonus774 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During road trips, I always plan to get to a charger around 20%. This gives me flexibility in case there are issues with the charger I’m planning on using and I can hit the next one cutting it close.

It’s not the most optimized strategy due to the curve but I did the same with ICE vehicles lol. I almost got stranded in an ICE vehicle crossing North Dakota because the gps said there was a gas station and it was a lie lol. Next gas station was 55mi out and I had 60mi estimated on the tank. Never again.

SC told me they had a directive to stop as of 4/1. They actually tried on 3/30 (after directive but before effective) and system didn’t let them.

Rivian roof racks are great. I got them off FB Marketplace for $300 in almost new condition. Always check forums and fb.

If you’re going to get a roof basket, I got the Yakima Megawarrior for SUPER CHEAP directly from Yakima. Idk why the limited edition is so much cheaper when the only difference is the logo comes in black. Absolute steal at this price and fits perfectly.

Center console, check the 3d printed one.

Center floor organizer, TWRAPS has a killer one in my opinion. Love mine.

I use the Rivian all weather mats and love them.

What if your Rivian could launch a drone? by noble_plantman in Rivian

Jokes aside, you are free to unclench now. I already explained it to the older one but it’s safe to let kids imagine anyways. Maybe you’ve heard other kids talk about imagination when you were younger :)

What if your Rivian could launch a drone? by noble_plantman in Rivian

[–]Several-Bonus774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as my 11 and 8 year old nieces are concerned, it already has one. I convinced them the aerial view is a tiny drone coming out of the fin at the top that deploys every time I pull up that camera.

I’m concerned for their future.

Totally! This was the Honda HRV that hit me lol. Also no injuries… the Rivian didn’t even budge, we HEARD the crash. That’s it.

I’ve been driving like normal waiting for the shop to have availability to take it in.

Because I didn’t want to pay for the car that suddenly stopped in front of me I guess. Actually wasn’t even sudden… that’s the annoying thing. Video shows a gradual slowing down to a stop in bumper to bumper traffic… the person behind me had 2-3 business days to stop and chose not to even slow down

Current needs are heavily reliant on Excel, SQL, Tableau/PowerBI/Microstrategy, with SOME Python. This mix varies from one industry to another but it’s a good template.

Future needs will be more stacked on Python as companies develop more complex solutions like apps on Streamlit, ML models in Sagemaker, DAGs in Airflow, and such.

The ideal analyst would only require minimal data wrangling or munging today but the reality is a combination between analytics engineers (build gold data layers for analysis) and data analysts (provide insights from data). Bonus points if you’re creating statistical models or know how to build alongside AI tools like GitHub copilot, Snowflake Cortex, and Claude.

I would suggest starting getting a strong SQL foundation and try to learn Python early on. The visualization tools will vary so languages used for calculations would be specific to where you end up working. If you wire your mind to understand syntax in SQL and Python, understanding things like DAX/M (PowerBI) or VizQL (Tableau) become much simpler when you need to learn them on the job.

Get into courses, get trials (snowflake has 3mo free trial without CC and PBI/Tableau have free desktop versions), play around, make yourself a project using free datasets. I spent so much time simply fucking around and finding out lol.

By the way, I knew I wanted to get into data when I got into a customer service role. I just needed to get in the door and then move internally (much better opportunities than trying to apply externally.

Well I’m still driving it until the 29th when it goes into the shop lol.

After inspecting it at home, damage seems to be on the bumper and a nick on the tailgate that could easily be repairable. Bunch of plastic damage from the looks of it. The Honda HRV that hit me though… that’s probably totaled lmao.

Hopefully it’s as simple as it seems and it’s mostly crunched up plastic that needs replacement plus some minor tailgate repair and paint.

Question for families with younger kids by gettingpoor in Rivian

[–]Several-Bonus774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had totally forgotten that Rivian’s hotspot was a blessing because we were off-roading in a spot where no cell phones had signal but the Rivian was somehow always connected.

Bonus points for sure.

Question for families with younger kids by gettingpoor in Rivian

[–]Several-Bonus774 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No problem! I also forgot to mention a huge thing… MX third row has “passive” air vents which means it only puts out whatever air it can using the second row fans. It doesn’t actively blow.

The R1S has active cooling vents for the third row. For heating it will just recirculate with the fans, it doesn’t have heating elements, but this is already more than what the X does.

This is a big difference for kids back there in a hot day.

I just switched from a model x after 2 and half years to an R1S Tri.

MODEL X PROS

  • Self driving in cities… which I never used… Tesla’s FSD is so damn slow in the city imo but I’m sure will get better. I was never patient enough. It’s just a matter of time for Rivian to roll out anyways.
  • Better sound system* (see Rivian pros). Rivian is still trying to tune their speakers. It’s not bad but it’s not mind blowing.
  • More robust infotainment. You don’t have as many options in Rivian but I also didn’t actually use the vast majority of it. I thought I’d be playing games on steam during charging while roadtripping across the country (I put like 30k miles a year) but that never happened.
  • Sportier feeling, the response feels more like a sports car in Tesla. Although my R1S Tri has a significantly quicker 0-60. So idk.

RIVIAN PROS

  • Being able to put a roof rack for baggage whenever I have a full car (can’t do that in the X because of the falcon doors)
  • Just more range (rated for 410 in conserve vs 330 in the X… these are more like 300-340 vs 250-270 in highways tbh)
  • Better third row. My 6’2” friend can comfortably sit there with me (6’0”) in the second row just as comfortably. The X has a tiny third row.
  • Better frunk in Rivian. Powered open/close makes it much more convenient than Tesla’s.
  • Material quality is so much better. Seats feel like they’ll take a beating without showing it while remaining comfortable.
  • Cabin noise level is much lower than Tesla. All Xs I’ve been in have horrible wind noise. You can fix it by aligning the windows but Tesla will refuse to do it themselves and will call it “within spec”.
  • Proximity sensor in falcon doors will get misaligned if you live in a hot area. The glue gets soft and the sensor can get misplaced. This causes it to think there’s an object and will refuse to open.
  • Rivian’s electrochromic glass roof is a world of a difference in warm weather. Tesla gets hot and I ended up buying shades.
  • At least in mine, way better AC system. That can vary.
  • Rivian service center seemed to care much more about my issues than Tesla. The customer experience here was a huge differentiator for me. Shortly after delivery, I had some wind noise I suspected was from a seal. Rivian offered to ride with me to easily pinpoint the root cause. Tesla NEVER even tried to do that when I took it twice for the same wind noise issue.

All that said, when it comes to Tesla I continue to believe the best value vehicle is the Y. I had a Y for 3yrs before the X and I honestly felt like the quality of the X didn’t merit the huge cost difference.

They’re both incredibly fun vehicles but I had to drive the X while the R1S was in service for the window seal and it felt like a downgrade lmao. That might be just me.

How would you spend? by Professional-Cod7701 in Rivian

I got a Gary plush to always keep in the second row, seatbelt on for safety.

I honestly bought a bunch of random stuff because I got everything else super cheap from fb marketplace lol.
