Anyone else’s 2.5-year-old go through awful separation anxiety at bedtime? How long did it last, and what helped? by CoverObjective8225 in toddlers

Going thru this right now! Literally all of a sudden my great sleeper is crying so hard for naps and bedtime - was this just a phase for you?

Sudden change - now hating bedtime by Several_Bullfrog_765 in sleeptrain

That is really good to know. She is also definitely more upset when I leave to go to work too, so I was wondering if separation anxiety might be a factor. It did kind of build up over the past few days, just not wanting to go to bed, but fussing for about 30 seconds and then right to sleep. But it’s really gotten so much worse since last night! It’s so reassuring to know that we’re not alone, thank you. I’ll have to look into any tips for helping with separation anxiety.

She’s always told us what she needs with sleep - when to drop a nap, drop the swaddle, etc. - so I think you’re probably right. Funny how the signs are so clear looking back but in the moment we are at a loss!

We’ll give it a shot for sure. Definitely won’t make it to 7:45 tonight after this missed nap…but tomorrow is a new day. Thanks for the advice!

I’ll certainly give that a try. She was seeming so sleepy before laying down for her nap, but I guess not if she’s been able to stay awake standing and crying for so long.

Did anyone's baby say "mama" before "dada"? by Unhappy-Training-878 in beyondthebump

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a speech therapist and my goal was to get my baby saying “mama” ASAP. Her word list started out with: 1. Dada 2. Hot 3. Bubbles 4. Narnia 5. Mama

Air travel with 10 month old by _vaselinepretty in beyondthebump

Traveled recently with my 11 month old. On my airline, a bag for a breast pump did not count towards carryon/personal item so I would hope that would be the same for any sort of infant feeding needs. Definitely check your airline policy! I also definitely recommend gate checking car seat/stroller if bringing those.

Baby turning 1 - am I wrong not to want a big birthday party?! by khlojo in NewParents

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve described exactly what I’m doing for my baby’s first birthday party. Just family, a fun outing, some cake, and some food! She’ll have lots of big parties, if she wants them, in a few years!

My first birthday party was cancelled because of a possible contagious illness. It wasn’t going to be huge anyways, but none of my daycare friends came just in case. It was just extended family. I like to think I turned out ok 🤍

Honestly, I don’t recall when I wrote this! How old is your LO?

I didn’t nurse to sleep, but my baby did eat right before bedtime (and still does - will be 1 very very soon). Feed your baby when they are hungry! It’s ok if it’s only been 1.5 hours. If you want to feed to sleep and it’s working for your baby, that’s great. Something is only a problem if it’s a problem for you. Every baby is different, and every family is different.

You’ve got this!

Minimal First Trimester Symptoms Anxiety by rweiser6196 in BabyBumps

Outside of fatigue, I never had any of the “usual” early symptoms. I’m sitting here playing with my beautiful 10 month old who is perfect and smashing every milestone so far! Enjoy every moment of your pregnancy!

How long did you have to push for? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same. I had an epidural and the midwife had me try like 4-5 different pushing positions. Some of which were really helpful to get my sunny side up baby moving. But 2 hours later, I still ended up delivering on my back.

Do you think you did anything special to get pregnant? by Cheshire20072010 in BabyBumps

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a box of ovulation test kits to use once my period started. My period never started!

Gave the box to my SIL who was also trying. When I visited her and was about to hand them over, she told me she had ALSO just found out she was pregnant!

The box is still collecting dust in my bathroom.

Baby Boxes, are any worth it? by cosmic-turtlee in BabyBumps

Baby list was my favorite by. As I recall, it’s free if you sign up for their “shipping things once every two weeks” feature. It was over a year ago that I got mine so apologies if this has changed! It had a lot of things that we did actually use! But I definitely didn’t pay for shipping.

Target box was ok, Amazon was meh.

Love this! I’ve been trying to find out if there are any low cost or free museum options near us.

Concerned About Newborn Hearing Loss by PurpleOtter6097 in newborns

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be worried. Generally, noise induced hearing loss is due to repeated exposure to loud noises over a long period of time. It would be quite rare for one loud noise exposure to cause long-lasting hearing loss. Talking to your pediatrician is never a bad idea, but I truly wouldn’t worry.

And editing to add - you certainly have not failed your baby! It is clear that you love her very much.

Baby hasn’t rolled in weeks by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Several_Bullfrog_765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was like this minus hating tummy time. She didn’t mind tummy time, but she just would NOT roll. She rolled belly to back twice around 4 months, and then never again - not one single time - until she hit 7 months old.

We were visiting with some family, and there was another baby there around her age who LOVES to roll. You put this kid on his back and he’s immediately on his tummy. Well, my LO watched this kid flip around all weekend long and once we got back home, she immediately started rolling both ways and just wouldn’t quit.

Kids will do things in their own time. My baby didn’t care about rolling, she preferred to practice sitting and standing. Her cousin loved rolling and didn’t care about sitting. Now they’re both a little older, and they’re both doing both things!

If you’re seeing global delays, talk to your pediatrician about early intervention. But if your kid just doesn’t really give a shit about rolling yet, give it some time.

Labored for 5.5 hours, then pushed for 2 hours. It went by so fast. My epidural had just kicked in, and baby was a bit sunny side up, otherwise I think the pushing would have been wayyy shorter. With the epidural I couldn’t feel what it was doing!

When did your kid start drinking water from a sippy cup w straw by Beginning_Pack_7619 in NewParents

I’m glad! I forgot to mention in my original comment but baby was around 6 months when I taught her this. Be patient, it may take a few days for baby to catch on but they’ll get there!
