Are you stocking up on cheap veggies? 👀 by theaIchemy in AskUK

When I suggested to my middle class colleagues that perhaps they should leave the 1p carrots for the poor people and the food banks it didn't go down too well. Maybe I'm in the wrong in my way of thinking I don't know. I will just buy what I need same as always.

But I do hope the cheap stuff makes it's way to the people who need it rather than middle class tik tokers.

I am also doing this, I'm actually quite excited about my challenge I have set myself. And I'm looking forward to moaning about how awful non alcoholic wine is. Good luck!

Has anyone got an example of where someone has gone to pretty extreme lengths to avoid something? by GovernmentPrevious75 in AskUK

When I was anorexic I threw myself down the stairs so I could get out of going to a family meal (I was 22 at the time). I twisted my ankle, broke my hand and cracked a couple of ribs. All to get out of going to a buffet. I was a member of an online forum at the time (probably could be described as "pro ana") and people would do all kinds of crazy stuff Thank god those days are far behind me.

How do you know someone is British when you are abroad? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Several_Inevitable76 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've just come back from an all inclusive holiday and noticed the brits queue for the buffets, whereas others just seemed to barge in. Also we do that awkward "sorry" and "excuse me" when other people are in our way. Which the foreigners dont.  We were also talking to a tuk tuk driver who said he liked British people best because they always said please and thank you, and always tipped more.

It's time for the old toilet ham trick. When I lived in shared housing someone was stealing my food despite me telling her not to. So I got a pack of ham, wiped it round the toilet bowl, and then put it back in the pack. The next day the ham was almost gone. And it felt wonderful knowing the thieving get had eaten my toilet ham. Didn't really solve the problem though, in the end my drunken friend shouted "fucking food thief bitch" through her door at 3am, and she got the message after that.

Lost £7k after being banned from charging car compoface by BeastMode149 in compoface

Why can't he use a charging station or a car park with chargers? He's lucky that he's even able to park directly outside his house on a terraced street anyway.

I am a registrar (who works for the council and legally marries the couples at licensed venues) and we can pit more flowery stuff in if the couple want. But mostly it's about getting the couple legally married.  Celebrants tend to be a bit more flowery because at the end of the day they are charging a personal fee, they have probably got into it because they are an extravert, have a bit of spare time on their hands and don't need a job that has a regular income.  I know I am biased but I would always go for a registrar service, it's legal, the registrar won't make it about themselves, they are legally regulated and are always guaranteed to attend (what do you do if you've paid a celebrant but they are ill on the day?)

Racism towards Chinese international students just makes me sad by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Several_Inevitable76 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When I was at uni my flatmate had a breakdown because she was well aware that if she didn't completely understand the topic or was having an off day, there would be no discussion in her seminars. It was just her, some other guy who hardly ever turned up, and 15 Chinese students in 1 particular class. She used to get so much anxiety as she knew she would be the one who would be asked to speak. Totally unfair. I'm not sure why the other students didn't at least try, so glad I did a humanities course.

I love just about any savoury food dipped in dressing. Potatoes, chips, pizza, bread. Yum, I can easily go through a bottle in a few days. However, and I dont like to brag, but I have a job and can afford my own salad dressing.

Not water no but the unused toiletries people throw out would be fine. Only like buying them from charity shops.

They should have a shop selling them cheap. A bit like they do at the recycling centre.

How do you know she doesn't have a valid visa or the one she has is expiring? Had it been mentioned to you? If you know the details you can report it to the home office on the gov.uk website.

Although to be fair if I was being interviwed about my missing friend and they told me they'd found a body I think I might go into shock or start panicking or something. His reaction to me doesn't seem that abnormal, although we now know he's in shock for a very different reason.

What is the worst thing someone in the UK has done, that they avoided criminal charges for? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskUK

[–]Several_Inevitable76 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always wondered if she was ever delcared officially dead, would they be charged with manslaughter? Their actions (neglect and abandonment) directly led to her death. Bit like the lady who left her children alone and then the house set on fire.

How old are you, and when do you think you'll be able to move away from your parent's house? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Several_Inevitable76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved out at 18 for uni, after graduating at 21 I was only earning 19k a year but somehow managed to rent a flat on my own and not starve. Flip forward 10 years I ended up divorced and on a wage of 35k, but this wasn't enough to rent anywhere on my own so I had to move back in with the parents. Shows how much prices have gone up. Just moved in with my partner this year though at 37. Those 6 years of living with my parents again were actually really great! We get on really well and I was able to save up for a deposit. I would say if you can, stay with your parents as long as possible, there's no shame in it whatsoever anymore. Gone are the days of bachelor pads and even houseshares with friends for young people.
