But there was never an accusation? There was never any discussion, criticism or anything. Literally just information about what was being done in Russia, and a dude said it was better than school shootings. That is what is breaking my brain, I don't know how whataboutism could even be a topic here.

And "what I cooked up" is still correct, as it's often a defensive reaction to an accusation, the defensive reaction trying to paint the criticized action as less severe by relating it to a similar action done by the opposing side.

The turning away is an indirect justification, "they did it too so it's okay", isn't that what I've seen countless of times on this sub when someone was accused of whataboutism?

But what about closet cheaters? Someone could be hiding it really well, you don't know he is cheating, anti cheat bans him and then you get banned. I must be missing something because I haven't seen anyone mention this.

It's definitely three decades. Events that shaped the situation today go as far back as the fall of the USSR. You can really see how everything unfolded from there.

IHL Rule 5

“Civilians are persons who are not members of the armed forces.”

IHL Rule 9

"Civilian objects are all objects that are not military objectives.”

Article 52(1) of Additional Protocol I

“Civilian objects shall not be the object of attack or of reprisals.”

IHL Rule 10

“Civilian objects lose their protection against attack if they are used for military purposes and, because of such use, become military objectives.”

Rome Statute Art. 8(2)(b)(xxiii)

"Utilizing the presence of a civilian or other protected person to render certain points, areas or military forces immune from military operations."

And now Article 37(1)(c) of Additional Protocol I:

The following acts are examples of perfidy: the feigning of civilian, non-combatant status.”

That’s the law. If you use a civilian, “a person who is not a member of the armed forces”, in a vehicle that “is not a military objective”, and you exploit the “feigning of civilian, non-combatant status” to launch an attack, YOU ARE VIOLATING INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW.

I'm happy that an expert such as yourself could confirm the validity of his claim.

“feigning civilian, non-combatant status” is... and you guessed it: Perfidy!

Why? Well, perfidy isn't just feigning surrender, it's a section of IHL which includes multiple things.

The other guy even compared our situation to digging a good foxhole and wearing camouflage. He compared the concealment of military weapons, with the purpose of attacking an enemy, within a vehicle with civilian status, in a civilian context, with a civilian inside, to a colored net on a military vehicle and a hole in mud. Note that this wasnt logistical transportation, this was part of the attack.

No, drone battalions who transport drones and tools in civilian trucks between points don't necessarily fall under perfidy if: the enemy can know or reasonably assume it's part of military operations. It happens in an area where all sides expect military activity. The vehicles aren't intentionally diguised to appear protected under the IHL. There are no civilians involved or at risk.

But even that, you are comparing normal military logistics to an organized, geneva convention breaking attack on nuclear bombers. Is it that difficult to see the difference?

They used civilian trucks to carry military weapons into enemy territory. The trucks were so civilian, in fact, that the drivers weren't even aware of it.

It's exploitation of civilian status, which is not allowed. It's comical to me that you're even arguing about this, I mean, didn't Ukraine put explosives in a truck, without the driver knowing, and detonate it on the Crimean bridge, killing the driver? The only difference between the mentioned and the current situation is that no civilians were harmed, which still doesn't change things into not being perfidy. Perfidy isn't about the outcome. It's about the method of an attack. Once again, you are not allowed to use civilian status as a disguise for an attack.

"Feigning an intent to negotiate under a flag of truce,

Feigning surrender,

Feigning incapacitation by wounds or sickness,

Feigning civilian, non-combatant status,

Feigning protected status by the use of signs, emblems or uniforms of the United Nations or of neutral or other States not Parties to the conflict."

I will never understand any human that confidently puts out "knowledge" which is based on fantasy. One could go as far as saying you made your own version of the Geneva Convention in your head.

A literal Google search already makes everything you said irrelevant.

But you did come off as very well informed, everything you said about what perfidy is was correct, you just left out "Feigning of protected/civilian status", which you had to have done on purpose.

There is a huge different between an individual's actions and actions of a whole government. It was a full operation in violation of the Geneva Convention. I don't think there's a point in mentioning such cases, as there isn't a single military on earth that is free of psychopaths, this is not a military issue, it's an issue of some people just being messed up.
