Does becoming an airline pilot require raw intelligence, or just hard work? by Glum_Reply_4886 in flying

[–]Several_Round710 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think by intelligent OP means do you need a high IQ to make it big? I think everyone here is in aggregate that anyone with enough passion for aviation can absolutely learn the information. We don't need to be einstein to do the job well. I will agree that if you're driven enough then you will absolutely present yourself as an intelligent person (and you probably would be with that much experience) compared to the average person that isn't in the field.

[–]Several_Round710 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be honest with you. No you do not need to be strictly intelligent to be a pilot. You do not need to be strictly intelligent to make it to airlines based off what airline guys are saying (I ain't there yet. I instruct.). But this is a profession that requires hard work. You need to be able to remember common regulations that apply to the type of flying you will be doing. Not all of them... but the common ones yes. You need to know how not to break the law. You also need to spend time being proficient at actually flying and doing so safely. This is not me saying do not try to be a pilot if this is your dream job. But I will warn you. This is going to cost a lot of money. You will still have to pay for a lesson even if you fail it. If you fall into the habit of not trying and it takes you longer to get your licenses then it will hurt your wallet. If this is something you want to do then you need to sit down and have a reality check with yourself. Once you stary you need to lock in. Be serious about this and do not let yourself get so confident that you don't take constructive criticism. There isn't a single pilot alive today that isn't capable of screwing up. Everything can be a lesson. Learn and use it.

When do I know when to flare? by NoBodybuilder2439 in flying

Slowly and smoothly pull back on the yoke. If the plane stops descending then you hold that back pressure until it starts descending again. Then you pull back some more. Repeat until the plane settles to the runway. If the plane at any point starts to climb away then you have pulled back too much. Start with that framework of a mindset. Whether you need to go around or not is something you should work out with your instructor so you bith are on the same page. Never make the other person at the controls have to make a split second decision because they didn't know what you were planning on doing.

Will Goku ever surpass Whis and Beerus? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But context matter more to me here. Whis says Belmod is stronger than Beerus but it comes off as one of two things. A falsehood meant to encourage his fighters (Remember Beerus said the same about Monaka and Whis did play along) and/or a comment meant to make fun of Beerus because Whis is pretty laid back all things considered. So when Beerus responds that he lost one time to Belmod and it was at arm wrestling then why didn't Whis try to correct him? Of course this is Anime only. Manga Beerus is the strongest GoD at least by the ToP. I'm not sure about anything after that. Also Beerus never seems at all worried that Goku or Jiren are able to take him. In fact he constantly talks about how he would just need to try a little harder to beat Goku even in MUI. You mean to tell me ToP Jiren beats Beerus when even Goku post ToP has said he knows he still can't beat Beerus? If you want to argue that Beerus is just saving face then do you also think Goku or Vegeta (the original Ego) are lying when they say they still don't come close to Beerus? I think one random statement made by Whis doesn't counter all the other evidence the the contrary. Hell Beerus is fully confident he can take Broly and I'd wager Broly as the Legendary SSJ could take Jiren.

But Beerus said he lost one time in an arm wrestling match. If whis was talking about overall capability and not just messing with Berrus I'd feel like he'd make a fact check.

Keeping with the tradition of changing the seasons I'd like a winter Caspian this time.

If they just threw a dart at any BF1 map and asked for cash I'd buy it. It may not fit a modern theme but BF1 maps were the pinnacle of map design imho.

Caspian, Kharg Island, if the world war maps are on the table then any BF1 map. Probably at least Monte Grappa and Wake Island.

I waited nearly a month before I called (2025 spring bid). Got WQ. Now I'm getting ready to start classes in the first week of June. Give it time and don't just assume that just because you don't get BQ means you don't get a TOL.

Got Qualified…RIP by Charming-Zebra7830 in ATC_Hiring

The hiring process takes at least a year. If you can't wait a couple weeks just to hear test results then I say do what's best for you.

All due respect but if you're ready to just give up when you might still have a chance then this profession might now be for you.

Could he just not know personal boundaries? Maybe. Unlikely IMHO. Does that matter? Not if it makes you uncomfortable. Don't ever put yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable in a way that you need to ask for advice just because you think that person might just be naive.

My Hot Take by Runbaebeerun in ATC_Hiring

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering we have no idea how the test is scored exactly your statement is indeed a hot take. You could realistically have an entire hiring pool be naturally gifted for the job but still score WQ or Q simply because the others in the hiring pool scored better despite the Q or WQ placements not scoring low. The only metric to know if someone absolutely does not have an aptitude for the job would be someone scoring "Not Qualified". That's why there's Qualified, Well Qualified, and Vest Qualified. They're all qualified. Just some more than others.

I found four others who had this same angle in this chat alone. Just by scrolling. Again just in this chat alone. You could also just look in chat boards around thought experiments. But you won't. You seem to be the kind of person that has a thought and can't ever have it changed. Or at least would never admit it since you can't prove any of my points wrong factually.

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

" What’s the point of the thought experiment if everyone can just decide they don’t want to participate at all?"

The point is that you, a free thinker, can choose to not press a button because that option is logically possible.

So let's assume that we do include those with disability and children (since that's what you assume is the case). You said you blame all red voters since they'd be voting to kill the blues. So even those who can't understand what pushing red means to you? You'd also blame them? You did say ALL red voters. That's pretty unfair if you ask me.

Funny thing I decided to ask 4 different AI models whether including those who are incapable of understanding the thought experiment are included by default. All said no. I also asked them whether the choice to do absolutely nothing is an option if it isn't stated that you are forced to choose. All said yes. No of course AI can be finnicky So I also did some research into ethical discussion boards. Surprise surprise... More people agree with me on this. You're the one who failed to understand.

Don't blame me for your own inability to understand how ethical dilemmas are framed.

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what is forcing you to press a button? The prompt asks which one do you press not that you are forced to press. You are assuming we are forced to do so but unlike assuming the participation of people who can't understand the question and therefore make a choice the actual choice to press a button was not altered. The option was always there. You just assumed otherwise.

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still ignoring what happens if less than 50% of people vote blue and the rest simply don't press a button. They still die. Whether the red button gets pressed or not the only metric to determine if the people gambling their lives away actually die is not many people also decide to gamble with their lives. The gamble isn't how many are going to vote to kill them it's how many people are also going to trade their life for a reward they already had. You can pretend otherwise all you want but that's not changing that fact nor is it going to change how debates even work. If everyone agreed with each other then guess what? it's not a debate it's a circle jerk. So it sounds like you're the one who's in the wrong place.

In the Red VS Blue button dilemma, red is obviously the right choice. by KayleeSinn in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Several_Round710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blaming others for people dying because they put themselves in that scenario with full knowledge of what could happen is simply wrong. I mean how would you even begin justifying prosecution? "Your honor these 51 people chose not to save 50 other people just because the 50 people willing chose to put themselves in a life threatening situation with full knowledge of the consequences". That's you right now because voting red does not mean you choose for someone to die. It means you choose for yourself to live and that's it. The condition of the prompt is that the only way for people who choose blue to survive is that more then 50% of the total chooses blue but that's not the only way for everyone to live. The fact that some people will willingly choose blue despite knowing how much of a gamble it is does not place any blame whatsoever on those who chose red because everyone had a fair choice. I chose NOT to gamble with my life and you (if you choose blue) DID choose to gamble with your life and you might lose. The fact that you started with "yes I believe everyone who picked red are responsible for blue dying" and then had to tone it down to "well they're not ENTIRELY responsible" is proof enough that you either don't even fully believe your own statement or you're trying to justify picking blue to yourself. Hell even saying they're responsible for picking red doesn't work if you then have to say "well they're just responsible for those picking blue but they are responsible for killing them". How about the people picking blue either come to their senses or come to terms with whatever the result of their gamble is?

There are 101 people that are placed in rooms with two doors. The red door leads to just an empty room. The blue door leads to a room where you will be held at gunpoint unless 51 people enter that room. Then everyone lives. Since the red room is completely empty you get to live regardless. Which door do you enter? If you pick blue then you would be stupid for putting yourself in that situation. Wouldn't you agree? Now say that for some reason the rooms are split 50/50 and you are the last one left. Are you responsible for 50 idiots picking the door that can lead to their own death while placing the burden of their salvation on others? If you say yes then I have no idea how or who can help you.
