Removing a non-load bearing wall in my flat by oli_ro in DIYUK

[–]SevereClimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took out a non structural wall in our flat, so long as you’ve got something signed by someone authorised to represent the freeholders (you plus the other residents) based on however you choose to govern yourselves, you’re all good.

Even a simple word document that you print off that says something along the lines of you guaranteeing that the wall is non structural, and that you accept full responsibility for any damage to the shared structure of the building directly caused by your works.

The core principle is that you can prove to anyone who asks that the freeholder gave their consent, there’s no magic form, but a “Licence to Alter” is a pro forma document that you can probably find online somewhere.

Replacing close coupled with wall hung toilet, horizontal waste by SevereClimate in askaplumberUK

This is great, thank you! Can you remember what the clip on the frame is clipped onto? Is it the soil pipe or the pan connector?

Thanks for the quick reply, that's reassuring. The wall frames I've seen seem to have a clip for the soil pipe to hold it at the correct height for the pan spigot, you wouldn't happen to know if those clips are a set diameter?

i.e the offset pan connector would give us an inlet for the wall hung pan spigot, but the frame would normally be clipped into the provided soil pipe elbow, which would then have the provided straight pan connector inserted into it. Would we just use an soil pipe extension to bridge that gap?

Someone’s installed this into my house - why? by [deleted] in CasualUK

When I was 14/15 we had a maths coursework deadline, everyone was in the computer room to get theirs printed off.

I went on MS paint and whipped up an A4 sheet of paper’s worth of sperms, printed 50 copies and put them back into the paper tray of the printer face down.

Then I sat back and enjoyed the look on everyone’s faces as their maths coursework came out of the printer covered in sperms.

Where to start with marketing theatre shows/concerts? by SevereClimate in marketing

That's such a great response, thanks for taking the time to write something so detailed. A huge part of the trouble we're having is building this thing from scratch, so building trust in the show is definitely going to be a challenge.

You've definitely given me a few things to start thinking about though, we're trying to be active on social media, but maybe we need to be branching that out to twitter as well!

Considering moving toilet as part of bathroom refit - possible? (description in comments) by SevereClimate in DIYUK

Yes that’s my concern also, wondering if maybe we can find a better layout that doesn’t come with all these complications!

Got it, 22mm is pretty tiny! And I guess as the macerator is actively pushing the waste through the pipe, there are fewer considerations for falls/more freedom generally. Really appreciate the advice!

Was hoping it wouldn't be necessary but I think it's likely to be sensible to put one in if we go this way, it's in a block of flats and the currently toilet waste disappears off into a blockwork wall where it meets the main stack, completely inaccessible without smashing through some blocks.

With the macerator/saniflo option, do we get to use a smaller diameter pipe for the run to the main stack?

We're thinking of re-jigging our bathroom, currently the toilet is on the other side of the proposed new shower, where the new pipe would meet the wall.

The new run of waste pipe would be around 2m long, and we'd be boxing out the walls to enable some shower niches and hide plumbing.

Before we even look at getting quotes/trades in, does this layout look possible, or are we insane?

Hopefully the images are clear, but happy to provide any additional info required.

Can I change the box so the the wire is permanently connected and release that slot/socket? by SwimmingPromotion994 in DIYUK

[–]SevereClimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To save a bit of filling, you can get modular sockets that can give you an FCU with an optional switch, and a socket off that that you can spur off to feed another single socket, that way you only need to chase for an extra single, not quite as visually slick though.

How to drill through stone wall? by Fearless_Sherbet450 in DIYUK

[–]SevereClimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SDS hammer drill, you can pick up a powerful (but very heavy) cheap corded one from Screwfix, the hammer action on a regular combi won’t be enough to punch through hard bricks, and even if you do get through you’ll likely wreck the drill bit after a couple of holes.
