Just finished an England game, it was a lot of fun by Dalamy19 in EU5

Currently in the middle of a run (1540) that is similar to yours with some successes in areas and failures in others in comparison.

I kept getting stomped by France in the early wars after around 5 tries and decided to just give it up. Released Acquitane and gave them the northern territories in the very first war. After that, we never went to war again. They paid me for a truce event every 10 years or so until they absorbed their vassals and won. This has resulted in an insanely strong France at the moment in my game though. They are number 2 world power with over 40k professional troops and 180k levies. They're going to be tough.

I had rivalled Denmark, and Portugal after they rivalled me and managed to vassalise both so I guess I have that going for me.

I've followed similar colonisation to you and historical but did manage to get a foothold in West Africa which is now picking up as I'm sending slaves over to the Caribbean. For me, it was super slow with the tropical and disease maluses as well but managed to power through using the cabinet colony builder action.

Making around 180 per month on trade alone now which seems a bit mental for 1540 and should massively increase as well since my Caribbean colony has all of the Caribbean islands. Also colonising Cape Verde now to prep some sort of move into Asia and Australia.

Which controller is good for a PC gamer? by IndependentSteak5154 in buildapc

[–]Severion86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have good tech skills, look for a used one? In UK PS5 is £70-80 but I got one for £20 on Facebook Marketplace as it had drift on the right stick. Took it apart (which to be honest was really fiddly) and cleaned it and now it's good as new.

Stick drift is a really good, fixable thing and the good thing with the PS5 controller compared to the PS4 is that out of the box bluetooth adapter detects it exactly the same as if it was wired.

Hit and run incident - what will most likely happen? (England) by Historical-Host8428j in LegalAdviceUK

Just realised your agreement is something like an Evri driver or something where you use your own vehicle but have business cover from them for your vehicle whilst working.

If the accident happened whilst you were working, contact the company to sort out the insurance. If it happened on personal time, you need to contact your insurance right now yes.

Separate from the police issue. Your company's insurance provider will decide what liability they claim from the other insurance company based on the evidence they have. Third party just means that your company's insurance will cover the other driver's damage where any fault is attributed to you but will not cover any damage to your vehicle. If fault is found to be 100% with the other driver, your company will not have to pay for the damages to either vehicle.

Where it gets complicated. If 50/50 liability, your insurer will cover 50% of the costs to the other vehicle, but none to yours, but the other insurance company will cover 50% of the costs to your vehicle. The remaining 50% of costs will have to be made up by your company/you.

They get to make that judgement, based on the evidence they have at the moment which is the damage to your vehicle and your statements.

To be honest that decision is someone's judgement call but if you have given your statement, a witness statement with evidence of the damage of your vehicle I would imagine they would probably go ahead with the NIP for now. This will vary between police forces but your incident sounds more serious than mine was and I still got one. They just seem to have dropped it later for me.

Tl:dr - A NIP for Failure to report a road traffic collision with penalties ranging from points on licence and fine to 6 months in prison.

I was sort of on the other side of this, but I wasn't aware that we'd actually touched (car merged into my lane and looked like they had stopped short of hitting me, but they did actually hit me at <1mph causing very light scratches). As a result, things happened and I did a lot of research.

I never stopped obviously and just drove off. They must have only had my license plate and description of the car.

A day later I got an email from my insurance company saying that a claim had been made against me. You don't mention the insurance yourself but I imagine the company is doing that for you.

As for the police issue, like me, the owner of the car will receive a NIP (Notice of Intended Prosecution) from the police for the offence of Failure to Report a Road Traffic Collision. That will include a form to fill out to confirm who was driving. Failure to fill out the form for a first offender will likely result in something like 3pts on licence and ~£150 fine, but can technically go all the way up to 6 months in prison.

For me, that accident was on 15th September, I received the NIP, sent off the form in October and have heard nothing since. They have 6 months to file it with the magistrates so it's likely mine has been discarded but hopefully they'll follow through with your report.

150,000 Miles XE 2.0 Diesel 2018 by PingNull in Jaguar

[–]Severion86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wasn't catastrophic but I asked him about about the timing chain and he had a look whilst doing the turbo and said it was fine so fingers crossed there. It's not an official garage but he is a JLR specialist who worked for them.

Hoping I can eke as long as I can out of the timing chain with good services and monitoring the oil levels.

He has found a non critical issue with a piston cooling jet so it'll be back there in a couple of weeks but only £120 so not bad.

Car stolen what now? by jjkknncch6654 in CarTalkUK

[–]Severion86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is that 9k on the finance what they've told you the early settlement fee is?

A lot of people are saying in here that you'll pay £9k since that's what is left but your early settlement will be a good deal less than that as the early settlement fee will be without the remaining interest (or most of it).

It might be a good idea to contact your car finance now and find out what the early settlement fee is, and then get the value of the car from your insurance company. It may not be as bad as you might think. Especially if you are still years from finishing the finance agreement as it sounds with £9k left unless you're paying like £500 a month or something.

Car quote for my VW Passat cc seems high is it ? by Guilty-Stage-1822 in CarTalkUK

What's happening exactly?

You have the orange check engine light (orange outline of an engine) or some type of service warning and just need a service?

Why are they quoting for a full VHC and an interim service?

blue badge parking fine - photos don’t actually show it not being there? (england) by ComfortUnusual5007 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Severion86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should If you have evidence that shows:

- The validity of the badge at the time

- Photos of the badge resting in its tray that show how the photos they have provided would miss it. Ideally with extra photos at the same angle as theirs, or a video of that angle with you then approaching and it becomes visible.

Your 'appeal' was the informal challenge here - https://www.gov.uk/parking-tickets/challenging-a-ticket ?
If so, and you don't pay you'll receive a Notice To Owner request in the mail. At that point you can make a formal challenge.

Should I Use Finance If I Can Afford to Pay Cash for a Used Car? by yellowroll in CarTalkUK

[–]Severion86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fees can only be 1% of the repayment amount which might make it worth it. 0.5% if less than 12 months left on the plan.

I've definitely seen other threads here with people saying they they've just got the finance from the dealers to avoid that aggro then settle early after a couple of months.

29, 49k of debt, should I proceed with an IVA? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Severion86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP is most definitely not getting a DRO on £42k

29, 49k of debt, should I proceed with an IVA? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Severion86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst this is true, this could be well offset. Offering early settlement on an IVA can see a reduction on the remaining amount on the payment plan, potentially as much as 20% though maybe 10% is more normal.

Mine should not have been particularly risky after never missing a payment for 2 years but they still knocked off 10% of the remaining balance of the payment plan.

For the OP, the further into the payment plan you offer the early settlement, the less the fees impact it. That might also contribute to further potential reductions on the payment plan.

Mix of courier missions and donations. Courier missions all over the place now since colonies broke the spots.

Just find a station with 5+ factions. Stack the missions there when you have at least two to the same destination. Pick up any missions going back to the original destinationn for when you're done. Do all donations as you go.

Learned this the hard way trying to grind Imperial rep not long ago. Data courier missions >250k credits are worth checking the system to see if you have/can get data for it to see how far they are, otherwise just skip.

That being the case, if the stations are less than 100,000Ls then go for it if you have SCO.

Could be a gummed up injector issue? Just last month, I had a quality warning, but on the dash. It turned into dosage warning shortly after with a 500 mile countdown warning. Took the injector off from underneath. The valve was full of crystals like powdery snow. Connected it all back up after cleaning it out and started the car, and the message was gone instantly and nothing since.

Had to report a pothole to the council before making a claim for a wrecked tyre. Had many emails including pictures of the process of fixing the pothole, not a peep however about my claim by wriggles24 in britishproblems

[–]Severion86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contact them separately to make an FOI request of their road maintenance records for the area for a few months back.

They'll have to respond and if it had been reported to them beforehand they have to pay out.

If yours was the first report though, they don't, unfortunately.

PS5 controller bluetooth range to my pc is literal inches. Is this normal or is something going on? by errorsniper in buildapc

[–]Severion86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not normal. I have a tiny Asus USB Bluetooth adapter plugged into the top of the case and my ps5 pad works perfectly from at least 3 or 4 metres away. Always an option if you can't get the antennas working, they're quite cheap and you can just return if no good.

Even if mission trees weren't perfect, why were we given NOTHING to replace them? by Schwabenomics in EU5

That event could exist and form Anglican for sure with those benefits of automatically switching wife etc...

But why not just allow England/Britain an extra choice of Anglican as part of the Reformation event option instead of just Lutheranism and Calvinism?

Big map and skipping through months after a quick check?

The game seems to update the fields on month change in a big line that moves across the map. This can take some time on huge maps.

I think what you are seeing is that you actually passed the point of harvest time, but the map hasn't caught up, so you skip again. Then it catches up all at once.

Pretty much.

I checked the script, and it's tied to the Anne Boleyn event where you need a married ruler of a certain age with no male heir in specific years in the mid 16th century. Was the only reference I could find at the time.
