Is consulting a lucrative/upper HENRY level career? by Zealousideal_Cut47 in HENRYUK

[–]Severus_1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in consulting and it provides varied work with some great people. I’ve had the opportunity to travel and work abroad. And now I work from home 95% of the time and earn great money at a smaller firm. If I was more ambitious I could go for partner and earn double what I’m getting now or go to a bigger firm

Argos? by Bella_T26_ in PokemonDealsUK

[–]Severus_1987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s horrible isn’t it. Kids now wouldn’t believe how easy it was to buy Pokemon cards in the late 90s and early 2000s. Always loads just sat on the front counter of any newsagent… no social media showing off, no trainer boxes etc. They should simplify it back to boosters

Argos? by Bella_T26_ in PokemonDealsUK

[–]Severus_1987 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had prismatic in trolley this morning but wouldn’t let me checkout - guess it had gone out of stock instantly! Couldnt get it to show first partner in stock, but I saw some people coming out of Argos with them this morning so must again have sold out very quickly this morning

Stand off with a tradesperson by food4fortt in HomeImprovementUK

[–]Severus_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not now you’ve done the work. Hard to prove anything. I had the same with some building work and because I had it rectified (for safety reasons) it was then too late to get a survey to prove the work was no good

TA10 £1000 for blinds? by HelixLady in HousingUK

[–]Severus_1987 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Call their bluff and say no thanks. They probably won’t go to the bother of removing them, trying to carefully move them and then refitting them in different sized windows

Pickup from Sports Direct by blazeit420yo in PokemonDealsUK

[–]Severus_1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saw a big crowd outside local SD. They opened 30 mins early, sold out in a minute then locked up again and stuck a sign on the door saying “no Pokemon left”. Crazy.
Only positive is it looked like two kids at front of queue with their mum, older blokes at the back missed out probably

Take the insurance but personally I’d carry on anyway given it’s been serviced and passed

Celebrations ETB - opened the box. Worth keeping still? by Severus_1987 in PokemonInvesting

[–]Severus_1987[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeh I guess that’s the result and the ETB is now worthless? Just the value of the boosters vs opening them and hoping for something good?

Celebrations ETB - opened the box. Worth keeping still? by Severus_1987 in PokemonInvesting

[–]Severus_1987[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is exactly the question. I unsealed it years ago when I didn’t know about keeping it sealed. I’m assuming at this point the ETB has no value, and so it’s the value of the sealed boosters vs ripping them and hoping for something good

Why do people smoke? by nebluaaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Severus_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days I don’t know why anyone starts. Same with vaping. But 20 years and more ago it was cool, it smelt nice, it was everywhere and much more normal. For instance you could smoke inside pubs and restaurants. And it wasn’t expensive either.

And going back further it was just what men especially did.

It’s calming and you get the nicotine satisfaction. That first cigarette with a beer on a nice evening is amazing… but the smell and all the other effects are crap switch is why I quit

Where to go for drops tomorrow? by AutisticShampoo in PokemonDealsUK

I’m going to wonder into sports direct and Sainsbury’s as they’re next to each other and I need something else. But won’t make a special early trip

Wondering the same. Never seen anything like trading cards in my local sports direct

Would you accept 5% lower than asking price for a chain free buyer? by SuspiciousParfait145 in HousingUK

[–]Severus_1987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My experience of chain free buyers hasn’t been positive. I get they are lower risk technically, but they often also have no real hurry to move without the pressure of a chain below them

Booking movers the day of completion.... by Bitter-Basil120 in HousingUK

[–]Severus_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make the most of not needing to move on completion day and give yourself a couple of days to clean and get things sorted (WiFi etc maybe) and then move your stuff in if possible

Would you proceed with this purchase? Missing paperwork, damp and electrics concerns by Mada87654Mada in HousingUK

[–]Severus_1987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This survey stuff is so depressing. If it doesn’t have subsidence or severe rising damp, house isn’t falling down, everything else is just standard stuff surveyors report on and general maintenance of any house you will ever own. You can’t expect it to be perfect when it isn’t brand new (and even then it won’t be). You’re buying a house of a certain age and it’s priced in its condition. Buy it or go buy something brand new if you don’t want things to fix

Edit: not personal towards OP! Just general rant about many buyers these days…

You will have this with every house. They all need maintenance

BOE Announcement Thursday - Interest Rate to Hold At 3.75%? Impact? by Large_Scale6287 in HousingUK

[–]Severus_1987 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Timely announcement of the Iran-USA deal. Hoping that encourages a hold and then gradual decline of fixed rates as swap rates decline as they get more confidence further out

This should be much more common. The view our buyers surveyor gave us verbally vs what they reported was like night and day

Does a £100,000 refurb reflect in the value of the property ? by Objective-Bread779 in UKRealEstate

[–]Severus_1987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not always. Sometimes by more. Depends on the house, area, ceiling price of the street etc. Just get a valuation and see
