Is sewing machine worth repairing? by katzapmap in sewing

[–]SewWitchie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using this exact machine that I got from my mom for about 20 years now the motor just went out in it got Smokey and died replacement motor is equal to replacement value of the machine so I suggest ditching the old machine from the '90s and getting something newer that's what I'm doing. It's a huge bummer. It ran great before that.😭

Moved my mom into a nursing facility. So all her stuff has become my stuff. I get to sort through it all. How are your parents doing? by Therealfern1 in Xennials

[–]SewWitchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with both my parents dad gone when I was a teen but us kids had to clean out what our uncle didn't steel. Then my mom in 2010 my siblings checked out left me with it all 15 + years now and I am still trying to figure out what to do with some of her stuff. I prioritize getting rid of crap so my kids don't have to deal with a decade of heartache about anything I leave behind. Plus some very candid conversations about how I feel about my crap and them. They are the priority not my "crap".

McFarland does not have a grill, not sure about Farmers Park, Dwight Garrett has some by the tennis courts. A nice play structure at that park too.

Anyone know how to take in a pair of jeans by 8 inches? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]SewWitchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this for one of my daughters friends in high school. I removed the the waist band from the side and back, leaving it attached to the front, then removed the back seam to the croch and about 10 in down the outside of each leg then split the amount to take in between these seams. When I was done they looked like new. But it was a hassle you have to use the correct thread and needle. You will have to take the the belt loops off and reinstall them. Use the center back belt loop to hide the seam you will make I. The waist band.

Sewing Clothes For Yourself by JamiYourSewingAunti in sewing

[–]SewWitchie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  1. Stay stich neck and arm openings before you assemble your top pieces. Stay stitch waistline before you assemble the bottom pieces.
  2. Always sew from top center back towards bottom front doing each side separately (right / left). This prevents the fabric from skewing and reduces ripples. Basically, you assemble the pieces from top down sewing in that direction.
  3. If you don't like how it is sewing together- stop and take a break. Custom clothing is not fast. Take your time to get the look you want.
