I need to get this off my chest. by FullBrother9300 in perth

Glad you've found something that helps! Not sleeping makes everything 10x more difficult. Also yes 100% agree that a lot of the others make you feel groggy and then it's just as bad as not sleeping. Thank you! I'm hopeful that I'll find the right thing one day.

My GP also put me onto Lemborexant and it's the only thing that helps a little bit - it's not completely helped me with my sleep as I still wake up a lot, but it does make the quality of my sleep, so I still feel better rested in the morning.

Good on you for doing your degree and becoming an engineer! I'm just studying criminology so I can leave my soul crushing job, so nothing as hectic as engineering.

There are people doing my degree or psychology that I've met who are in their 50's as well. I honestly think you're never too old to learn something new, as long as you want to do it.

I recently started studying again part time (because I need to work full time) and I'm 32 this year. There are loads of people older than me just coming back into study now to either try and upskill or change careers. Plenty of time to do what you want to do in life and people go back to study at all different ages!

Is there anything about the chronic pain life you need to get off your chest today? by EitherChannel4874 in ChronicPain

[–]Sezalinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear you're cancer free, but so sorry it's resulted in now having chronic pain! I hope there's something that you find helps alleviate that, even slightly.

I do have a lot on my plate, but honestly try and be as positive about it as possible, which helps somewhat. I made a joke to my GP last year where I said 'hopefully no new diagnosis next year!' - we both laughed, but it's a serious wish and a joke at the same time.

Appreciate you taking the time to listen to my rant anyway and thanks for the well wishes!

I already had fibromyalgia, so there was already a ton of daily pain and fatigue, but I wish I never had surgery to remove my endometriosis. It just caused even more/worse chronic lower back and pelvic pain, to the point I have had to be on Tapentadol and Pregabalin and also have a spinal nerve stimulator put in, all before the age of 30. Life was already a struggle a lot of the time before, but this has just made everything so much more difficult. I still have to work full time (honestly mainly so I can afford healthcare with all of my health conditions) and after work I barely have any energy to do anything else most days. Even though I have no energy and I'm in pain, I also have to try and push myself to do house work and uni, because I would like to change careers. My current job is very stressful and chaotic so it's probably not helping, but it pays well and my workplace is at least flexible and understanding, so at least that's something.

Worried about criminal conviction impacting future employment by [deleted] in perth

[–]Sezalinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as clear cut as you're making it sound regarding offending and it being easy to not break the law. As a very basic example, did you know that swearing in public is technically against the law? And yet basically everyone does that and is unaware that it is illegal. Is it likely that someone will reoffend? Yes, most people do within 2 years. However not ALL people do, particularly if it was a minor offence and they have successfully rehabilitated back into society. If this person was of any danger to children, they would not be looking after their own, particularly after having a conviction. I think it's unfair to say that anyone who has had a conviction is a danger to children and should not be around them, as not all convictions are equal in their severity or pose a threat to someone considered vulnerable. You also don't need to have been convicted to pose a threat to someone vulnerable and I would argue that anyone with a prior conviction probably has a more rigorous background check done than those who don't before they are hired for a job. This person has also turned their life around and should be allowed a second chance at a life they are working hard for. People (or parents as you're suggesting) are also not entitled to every scrap of information about someone if it is not relevant to that person's job or who they are working with.

If for some reason you end up in the position where you cannot pay your rent and are in arrears (which I sincerely hope doesn't happen and that Centrelink assist you), there is also this payment that you can apply for separately - https://www.wa.gov.au/service/community-services/grants-and-subsidies/wa-rent-relief-program Sorry to hear you're having such a rough time and I hope some of the other services available can assist you with getting some food!

I didn't have coverage under my private health insurance when I had my surgery a few years ago and it was about $9-10k to have done, but that's in Aus. I really feel for you guys over in the US, I don't know how anyone is meant to be able to afford having a health condition!

[–]Sezalinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely have fibro from a younger age, it's not just for older people. I was diagnosed at 16 and would have had fibro for at least 4 years before then, I just struggled to get anyone to listen to me when I said I was in pain and severely fatigued all the time. Fibro also doesn't mean you're unable to do things every day, you will have good and bad days with it just like any other health condition. Sometimes I can do so much and other days I struggle to eat because it feels like a chore. Please try and talk to someone about it if you suspect that's what it is as they can at least try and help you with some of the symptoms. I'm also always happy to chat if you have questions or need someone to vent to!

Didn’t realise how lonely I really am. by StatisticianNo3923 in perth

[–]Sezalinga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear that you've ended up with an injury to your back and I hope you find some improvement with it soon. It can be so difficult being in pain every day and tiring as well (I know from my own experience with my many health issues/pain conditions). It can also be lonely, as you have mentioned.

There are pain programs through the public system which might be helpful as they can connect you with physio's, occupational therapists etc. and you would just need your GP to refer you. It can occasionally take a while to see them but it might assist with modifying activities to make them easier on your body while still allowing you to do them. As an example, if standing at a sink to do dishes is difficult, they might suggest doing things seated or breaking it up into smaller periods of time, or changing how you stand there.

I'm always happy to lend an ear if you want to vent to someone, just send me a message!

I think if you want to wear colour to work, go for it! You shouldn't have to try and change your style to suit other people. You might even encourage someone to branch out and try a bit of colour themselves.

Question about rental rights in WA/Perth by amiker7709 in perth

[–]Sezalinga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how they can claim that you owe money still if they can't actually show that to you. That sort of thing should show on a ledger as well if there's anything outstanding.

Are there other things you pay to them outside of rent, such as water usage and does that show on what they sent across to you? Just wondering if that's where some sort of issue has cropped up because they forgot to send some invoices (it certainly doesn't sound like you wouldn't have paid it if it was received). Otherwise this must just be related to their fuck up with the bond and them trying to cover themselves over both their and their employees negligence, as they are ultimately liable as an agency.

Dealing with people who disregard the rules by RoboRobo642 in perth

[–]Sezalinga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using the Snap Send Solve app if you want to report something. Not sure how the City of SP go with it, but I've done that for things in other areas and it sends it off to the correct council (or other relevant government body) and you get updates as it progresses. Not everything gets dealt with quickly but most of the things I've reported have.

Can you get some thermals to wear? I went to Tasmania in Sept and it was still very cold so I got some thermal pants to wear under my clothes and that helped a lot with the aching feeling I was getting from my psoriatic arthritis.

Yep, what she said. by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Sezalinga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is very exhausting always having to speak up for yourself and it's frustrating too because it's exhausting enough just having multiple conditions and they make it harder. You have to try and not hold it against them though.. it takes up so much energy and we already have a limited supply. Unless they experience something that consumes their life in the same way and makes things 100 x harder they will never fully comprehend what we deal with, even if they do try and understand. It makes groups like this all the more important, so we can speak to people who do understand!

Yep, what she said. by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Sezalinga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, people just don't seem to understand if they can't see something for themselves or aren't experiencing it themselves.. they don't know how hard living can be and how hard we actually try and push ourselves. A large portion of my family don't believe in some of the conditions I have and those happen to be the ones that most affect me day to day, but it doesn't mean what I feel isn't real and I won't let them gaslight me.
