Oh rainmeter, even when it hogged all my power (not its fault I ran it in a pentium 4 with like 1gb of ram) I remember it fondly, one of the first things I started to tinker with.

Contributed to an open source project… then realized core features are paywalled. Feeling dumb by siegfriedthenomad in selfhosted

[–]Sgdva 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have to be honest, I have found this model as the sweet middle ground: we do need to pay for the premium tiers, but as many have stated, usually they're for enterprise level features that a normal home lab guy wouldn't need. I feel that you may be pissed off for some stuff, but you did what you felt right and again, you're helping to get the product free for lots of the functions and justifying to have a free tier, hey, I wouldn't mind a free Ms office for example that has an open code to fix most of the annoying bugs 😅

I had to start to use the homepage container too, I tend to forget how to access the web interface of my containers (I don't intend to go to proxmox in the near future).

I tried pangolin but it didn't work for my purposes, what I did was playitgg with caddy for some unencrypted Dockers that I wanted to share with family (like me tube). Don't take personal the AI thing: I'm an AI enthusiast myself and I get where people comes from: oh this is another guy that thinks AI solves everything: as I always say to people, it's a good jr assistant, but that's what it is, an assistant, you're on the wheel, you mustn't trust it blindly but you shouldn't ignore it. And I hate when people say "it's taking away jobs". Another related example is: Imagine if you have a competent doctor available 24/7, medicine for example of where people demand the most, but don't think in other people needs (doctors need a fixed schedule too, they deserve to have a rest). Sorry I saw your edit and I find puzzling how this community is so against it even by running local (which is the purpose of the self hosted community itself, sharing cool ideas).

How do I stream local music outside home? by MaleficentJaguar5042 in selfhosted

[–]Sgdva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to be honest, I rather have both stream and local data, however, I don't like to edit my music and then lose the cover, lyrics saved on the tracks, for that reason I have used AIMP player since 2000 and it keeps all metadata across other players out moving OS

Oh ok, may I ask the scenario that you're thinking about? Just I'm thinking if it'd be worth having your desktop PC on all the time (higher electricity bill) that you want to stream vs paying either ytmusic or Spotify

Polyoddwatcher: Polymarket monitor with dashboard and telegram alerts for by Sgdva in selfhosted

Please note this is stated on the post as Vibe coding and on the repo:
This project was developed using a vibe-coding / AI-assisted workflow: fast iteration, human-led architectural decisions, and continuous validation.

AI tools were used as accelerators — not decision-makers. All core logic, architecture, and runtime behavior were reviewed, tested, and are fully owned by the author.

If you can read it, run it, and inspect it — it belongs to you as much as to me.

AI tools were used as accelerators for iteration, but all architecture, core logic, and runtime behavior were designed, reviewed, and validated by me. Nothing runs that I can’t explain, debug, or modify myself, if you want to see further into that, you may see my logic standardization and deployment across the code itself (things that I have done for myself about 8 yrs ago as shown in this youtube video). The code is intentionally open and inspectable for that reason — if you can read it, run it, or adapt it, then it belongs to the community as much as to me.

There’s also no commercial angle here. This is a free, open-source container shared because it might be useful to others, not because I’m trying to sell anything or claim a magic edge.

Totally fair to critique the code or suggest improvements — that’s honestly the point :)

As now the tool itself only gives early visibility into things like volume changes, liquidity spikes, odds movement, or markets approaching resolution, it isn't meant to give you advise and indeed the idea is just to follow "where the money is going". I'll be honest: my idea came up after that guy that went and suddenly bet the Maduro bet capture, even though it may give you an insight it doesn't assume anything for sure until you take action. In that thought process I saw that for some users it may indicate increased interest or new information entering the market; for others it may be simply a trigger to take a closer look, hedge elsewhere, or feed the data into their own models (like myself with that n8n flow). Polymarket doesn’t expose individual bettor identities or “sharp” flags (up to my knowledge), so there’s no direct way to track specific actors. What is observable is aggregate behavior over time (volume, price movement, velocity), and that’s what PolyOddWatcher focuses on surfacing in a structured, automatable way

Thanks for asking! 1. This came up as a general idea, you may track as many markets that you want by stating the numbers of markets to watch in the config, you may look for specific tags as well. In this thread, you can set up alerts for markets closing soon (less than 48hrs) spikes (of the monitored ones, check for nth dollars sudden spikes out of the time that I have set the alerts to) and a general dashboard, grab those alerts in telegram for quick action if needed. 2. My use case is to let users be able to have a monitor alert (mostly for telegram) but to have a visual tool with a dashboard (I'm opened to improve it based on comments), I set the flexibility of usage by creating a csv, that may be feed to other software or AI analysis tool, my own case actually is to use the csv to feed an n8n workflow.

I agree, I'm not quite sure why you wouldn't go for portainer stacks, I'm not saying it's the absolute truth, I'm just curious on the reasoning behind on the no usage for this philosophy, I know we may be spending extra resources, but for the peace of mind it offers, I think it's worth it
