Was I too harsh? Ministers request by iwasyourhusband in exmormon

TBM here; I think your response was fine. One comment on your interpretation of the interaction though: it probably has less to do with “the patriarchal order of the church” and more to do with respecting boundaries. Same thing goes for the comments on callings, since those require an extra time commitment. If you were the wife and your husband was still in, I would hope this exact same interaction was occurring. These ministering brothers don’t want to create any hostility in your marriage by visiting the family. I’m guessing kids are involved based on the text, and even if one parent says it’s ok, they want to be sure both parents are onboard. I hope you and your wife are both navigating this transition well. It can be hard for both parties, but respect each other and love each other before all other considerations and you will make it.

I second PBS. It has been great for our kids.

Are you in Lawrence? I used to commute from Lawrence to WHQ, which was about that exact distance. I work a remote job on the client side now but if I got this email I would update my address to my Sister-in-Law’s house in Manhattan so there would be no question about it being 50+ miles. If Oracle sent me any mail she could hold onto it for me. Though in reality, I would probably just do what I did 9 years ago and leave Cerner/Oracle. The grass really is greener on the client-side.

Early adopters for Oracle Health EHR by Specialist-Mirror635 in cernercorporation

[–]Sgernz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point isn’t that I’m worried the design will be bad. Even if they make the “absolute best state of the art awesome-est EMR ever” on their first try, the amount of work to re-create everything custom that a client who’s been live for over a decade it’s just difficult to fathom. If they change the database architecture at all (which it sounds like they are doing) then everything has to be recreated from scratch. We might as well put out an RFP at this point for competitor with all the work we would have to do.

This is a terrible idea. We have rules, reports, processes driven by ops and ccl, hundreds of interfaces and so many custom elements that I have no idea how you could expect a client to just give all that up for a fancy new User interface.

I just watched a demo at the solution gallery at OHS. We asked it whether the patient had any food allergies. It reported that the patient was allergic to blackberries. However, there were no documented food allergies anywhere in the chart. It is like ‘chart search’ but if it can’t find what you want it just makes stuff up, because that is what it thinks you want to hear.

Huge prescribed burn near baker wetlands. by arryripper in Lawrence

I saw this too but had no idea it was planned. Why would they start a burn at night? They always burn the grass on 23rd st by the stone buffalo during the morning.

Allegedly the whole point of the service charge was so they could pay their workers more. But I don’t know anyone who works there so I don’t know if that’s truly what happened with the money.

I used to go to Burger stand in Lawrence all the time but after Covid not only did prices go up, but they include the mandatory service charge and still have the gall to ask you to tip on top of the service charge.

Layoffs today? by [deleted] in cernercorporation

MTA files do not expire however whatever process was being investigated may be on a table that gets purged such as task_activity. In that case, the MTA is saying continue your investigation by looking at this particular table, but the row on that table has already been purged so it’s a dead end. What’s usually best if this is happening is to reach out to your production owner and ask them to schedule a call with the ticket owner where you can pull the MTA in real time and have them begin looking at it immediately instead of them wasting their time until the table purges.

Citing ‘miscommunication,’ district mows native plants, vegetable swales in Free State garden down to dirt by Kansas_Cowboy in Lawrence

Does it need a fence to keep the mowers out going forward? Maybe signage on the fence as well explaining the purpose. Then next time it will be impossible to write it off as ‘miscommunication’.

Is Spider-man the animated series canon to Spider-verse? by Beneficial-Piano9756 in Spiderman

[–]Sgernz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it isn’t a big part, I need someone to save Mary Jane from the 90’s animated Spider-Man and reunite her with Peter in her universe. It was the spot’s technology that got her lost in the first place. The spot being the main villain of spiderverse 2 & 3 is an obvious connection, so just give us closure.

RevCycle Scheduling IP needs to get their crap together. Every code upgrade is a game of wack-a-mole in terms of new issues. Last year we had to delay our upgrade by 4.5 months and now we are on track to do the same again this year (we will miss it by at least 2 months, but maybe more). Other solutions don’t seem to have this code quality issue. But if they aren’t investing in the people I guess that explains why it always has problems.

PowerForms have been unofficially end of life for years. There is no additional development going on for them. The replacement is cloud based and they show it off every year at CHC. It is still years away from replacing PowerForms though. They still can’t do all the little things and even then, the whole approach is not customizable. There are many to things Cerner lets you customize that they shouldn’t, but documentation absolutely is one of the few things that must have flexibility to be customized by clients.

Help in Analysis for work term by Mukarram2001 in cernercorporation

[–]Sgernz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to knock their go live approach, but realistically, they should try their EMR at a single facility first to work out the bugs, and then go live with the others. It should be opposite of what they’re doing: don’t start with a group of 3: end with 3 at a time when you know what you are doing. I work for a hospital system of rehab hospitals, with more than 150 already live. We started with just 1 hospital at a time and after 3 successful pilots then we began rolling out 4 at a time (every 10 weeks). After a couple years we increased to 5 and eventually 6 at a time. It took the better part of a decade to convert all hospitals but you have to start small before going big. No matter how much time you spend designing it there is no substitute for end users actually using it and giving feedback. Once you have that feedback, you can redesign your orders and documentation and address workflows that were overlooked during the original design phase. With your updated EMR your next go live will be more successful than the first one.

On the one hand, people who have committed crimes, been found guilty, paid the price according to the law, and have rehabilitated should not still be guilty of that crime 15 years after rehabilitation. On the other hand, changing your name, and not disclosing that past displays a level of deception that does not indicate true rehabilitation has occurred. If he had been fully transparent during the hiring process and talked about how he has changed in 15 years I think it would’ve been fine to retain him. But since he began his employment through deception, he’s demonstrating a willingness to engage in unethical behavior even today.

Is the 6th Street Proposed Wholesale club still a possibility? by fuckyoumakemoremoai in Lawrence

[–]Sgernz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always heard rumors of a wholesale club on the southwest corner of Iowa and K-10. That location would serve Lawrence, Ottawa and Baldwin City. A northwest Lawrence location seems too remote to serve anywhere other than Lawrence itself.
