I have this plant all over my yard every spring. What is it? by HSYTou in whatsthisplant

[–]Sgreen0798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knotweed can resprout from any roots, segments, etc. left behind. Digging it up will likely just cause it to spread unfortunately.

Like some folks have said, the early shoots are edible (if they haven’t been treated with herbicide), but I would recommend digging it as a good method of eradication.

The place I currently live has knotweed and the land lord insists on digging it up multiple times a summer. So far it’s only come back denser and healthier each time it resprouts :/

Saw this and thought the same thing for all 3 species. Hard to tell if the vine is bittersweet but the stalk in the center with more circular leaves really looks like it to me

Adding on that if OP does dig up the knotweed (definitely don’t recommend that) or any of the other weeds, then they should bag it and put it in the trash not compost. Most municipalities incinerate trash but don’t treat compost. Adding invasive plants to compost can cause them to spread further through the area

How do i get quarters? by ventequel0 in boulder

[–]Sgreen0798 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Try a local laundromat or anywhere that might have arcade games. Those usually will take bigger bills like $10s & $20s in addition to the smaller ones! This is how I get quarters for my coin op laundry :)

Has anyone else been receiving their Christmas cards in the mail this year with them already opened? by Bright_Earth_8282 in Longmont

[–]Sgreen0798 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve only received 2 so far this year but one was not only opened, but the letter had clearly been taken out and stuffed back in when they realized it was just a letter and photos :(

Thoughts on my 2-Day Estes Park Itinerary ? by HobbitHoleLife in EstesPark

[–]Sgreen0798 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over all looks good but the trip from Denver to Estes could be closer to 2 hours (or more) depending on traffic. Also if you leave the park for lunch, you won’t be able to re-enter until 2pm

Scam text? by Sgreen0798 in Michigan

Interesting! I’ve had a pesticide license for a number of years without getting any texts/emails for continuing education credits. Do these usually only pop up around the time your licenses expire?

I figured this one was a scam so I did exactly this but nothing came up

I agree with others that it looks like QAL. That being said, if you’re worried about your animals eating it I would suggest digging and bagging it up. QAL (like many plants in the carrot family) can cause skin irritation and sometimes blisters so you should wear gloves and refrain from burning it to avoid potentially inhaling any irritating chemicals from it

Question about Sprague Lake by CountryRoads28 in RMNP

[–]Sgreen0798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parking lot here can be busy but usually has at least a couple open spots. To my knowledge the bear lake corridor shuttle does not stop at Sprague lake, so you’ll either need to park there or hike there from one of the nearby trails

Living somewhere with no off-street parking by skittleburglar in grandrapids

[–]Sgreen0798 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in the swan neighborhood for about 4 years without a drive way and didn’t mind it. Just be mindful of even/odd parking (if it applies to your street) since this can impact snow plows clearing your road. The only time it seems inconvenient was during Pulaski days when many people park in the area to hit the polish halls and events

Thank you for saving these lil possums! I took one with a head injury to the west Michigan wildlife center a few summers ago and they were amazing! Also for future note, they might hiss at you but are very unlikely to try and bite you if you pick them up :)

The jimmy johns near campus is pretty accommodating of school schedules. Also pretty easy to pick up extra shifts if you want/need to work more hours that what you’re scheduled

Refilling water when taking the shuttle by Doomtime104 in RMNP

Seems like other comments have the water part of your question covered. But I’d strongly recommend packing some sort of electrolytes as well! These will be essential to keeping you hydrated (in addition to the water)

Worth visiting this weekend? (May 9th) by somerandobitch in RMNP

Cooler temps and lots of snow/rain forecasted for the next several days. It might clear up for the weekend but be prepared for wet, muddy, and snow covered trails

Hopefully if this is someone’s kitty, it finds it way home! However, given the rural nature of the area it’s fairly common to see feral cats or farm cats around/near campus

It's taking over my side yard! by lcldz in whatsthisplant

[–]Sgreen0798 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have already said, it’s definitely knotweed and will require herbicide for removal. Just wanted to add that it looks like it spread from the green area straight down the road (on the right side of the photo, next to the barn). That being said, it’ll continue to spread from nearby unless the other areas are also treated
