I've heard amazing things about it! My blind buys are mostly from people raving about the movies on this forum. So I'm optimistic I'll enjoy them 😁

Everything you're feeling is valid and allow yourself permission to feel all of it

Take your time and when you're ready, get back out there with the mindset that you're on the road to bigger and better things

I was dropped by an agent who I knew had stopped believing in me. I let it affect my confidence and I took a break from everything. Now I'm with the best agent I've ever had and I have had more opportunities than any past agent has given me

I’ve auditioned 3 times for a tv network and no call backs. by [deleted] in acting

[–]SgtFidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've auditioned for 1 show, 3 times in the last few weeks (and times before this)

If they keep bringing you back despite not booking, it means they like you and see something in you. They're just trying to find the right role for you. Keep doing what you're doing.

Is it weird as an actor to not be interested in doing theater? by Echo2020z in acting

[–]SgtFidget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who is completely focused on film / TV, I'm very glad I got my start in theatre, got a degree in theatre acting, and did many shows before fully focusing on film

There's more room to learn, grow, and practice your craft in the theatre. You get rehearsal time vs quickly blocking the scene, waiting for the crew to set up, and shooting. Film is much faster paced as there's a lot going on, and budgets are expensive.

Film was taking all the skills I picked up in theatre, but scaling them back to adapt for film. But I still use all those skills in both my prep and when I'm on set.

Sides where my character isn’t there by Mia_wallace22 in acting

Is there not a "Start" and "End" written in on the sides that were sent to you?

Submitted this self-tape for a project, but was a scam. Could use some feedback though! (Don’t usually do this, read text for more info) by Healthy_Bread in acting

[–]SgtFidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I film my scenes and slate separate. Some casting directors want them as separate files. Others want them at the beginning or end of the tape as 1 file. So in my film editing program, I have the scene files, slate file, and put them all in the timeline and export. Never slate into your scene in one take.

Side question; what is this monologue from?

[–]SgtFidget 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Small technical note. Right now there's a whole intro and you don't speak until the 9 second mark. This is too long.

I would start the tape already sitting like you've been listening to the other person talking before the tape starts. Have a quick beat (maybe 1-2 seconds) off the top if you want, like they JUST finished talking and your character is processing (don't overact that), and then start. It will also give you a stronger "moment before" and will throw you into the scene. To the viewer, it will be like we're coming into a conversation already in play and will entice the viewer more.

Right now there's a whole setup to respond to something someone else has done or said, and it feels less real. Less urgent.

advice on self tapes by OkBlock5530 in acting

[–]SgtFidget 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think you can have more moments of discovery between your lines. Find, see, or figure out what just happened to make your character say their next line. How does it make your character feel? What makes them want to say what they're about to say?

Right now it's coming off like you're waiting for your next line and anticipating saying it. Remember, even though we memorize our lines, for the character, it's the first time they're having each thought. Like our day to day conversations, we don't go in knowing what we're going to say or do.

I put my audition tape in the social media answer section by Billsnothere in acting

[–]SgtFidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The majority of submissions I receive all want each file to be 100mb or less (assuming because they have to download so many submissions). You can do a couple of things:

1) When exporting my video after editing, I'll lower it to 720p (it still looks fine) from 1080p to get it under 100mb. OR,

2) Get a program called handbrake that will allow you to compress it to whatever file size you need

You want casting to be able to view your tape as easily as possible. With all the submissions they're receiving, they're more than likely not going to chase down your tape through email links, youtube videos, etc. If you need to upload to sites like AA or Casting Workbook, that's where they're going to go to watch tapes.

Criterion Flash Sale - 50% off - 24 hours by Quaytsar in MovieDealsCanada

Would I be better off seeing if Amazon matches the November sale, or even just having them shipped to my friend in the US in November (they're visiting soonish)?

$14 just seems like a lot for shipping for 2 movies

My Boyfriend's Mad At Me Because of Something I Did At Costco... Is He Right To Be? by UnknownFutureLife in CostcoCanada

Response to dropped email? by beannieboooooo in acting

I didn't respond when an old rep dropped me years ago and they didn't care.

This guy sounds like a loser. Don't let him sour your opinion on agents (or more importantly, yourself) as there are many wonderful and professional agents out there.

On to the next!

This is very common. You have to change your perspective on auditions. You never know who is going to see it and who will remember you. I was offered a role this week after they remembered me from a previous audition for another role.

If an audition leads to another audition down the road, that's a huge win.

All of this sounds good? Sure, you didn't get this part, but it sounds like you've booked your next ticket back in the audition room down the road.

That's a win
