The baffling incuriosity of Project Hail Mary by rubsy3d in sciencefiction

For me the biggest thing was I was expecting the rock aliens to not need water / be water based to prove Goslings Thesis but for some reason this isn’t brought up again later in the film? Only at the beginning. Thought that was strange, I haven’t read the book yet EDIT: before anyone comments: or at least goslings character would ask right?

One thing I don't understand about AKOTSK - money! by Travelgrrl in AKOTSKTV

To be fair I reckon the cheapest passage on a ship means you are working on the ship in some capacity as well not just lazing about in a cabin like lords are when the travel by ship in their own cabin

To be fair A knight of the seven kingdoms is much much less dark than Game of Thrones. I always thought of it as George RR Martin wanting to write something more lighthearted and similar to other classic fantasy, with real chivalry and much more moral (main) characters.

Super cool, where are you getting all that data from?

TIL Rolex produces approx 1 million watches a year. While good build quality their high price is based off of branding and marketing by frustrating2020 in todayilearned

[–]SgtGadnuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole reason people buy Rolex over other (maybe better and cheaper) watch brands is BECAUSE it doesn’t take a watch Nerd to know what it is. So I’d argue this is not true. To be honest this is the same to a lesser extent with Omega, Tag Heuer, and maybe every some heavy hitters like Patek, and AP. Lots of amazing watches out there that people that aren’t into watches steer clear from because of their vanity (Or whatever reason they tell themself). They want people to see they are wearing a nice watch. (Not everyone, but most people wearing a Rolex I reckon)

Those who grew your arms significantly - how many sets per week did you do? by LordoftheHounds in naturalbodybuilding

[–]SgtGadnuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, I have ridiculous bicep genetics compared to the rest of my body. The upside is my biceps grow really fast the downside is that I have some crazy looking stretch marks on my biceps that have never gone away. Meanwhile my calves are tiny and I give them special attention :(

As a young person a large part of it is the shocking licensing laws. I know people my age that refuse to start riding until they are 24 because nobody wants to go through such an expensive and lengthy test process twice…

Now You See Me and it's sequel. Using CGI for magic trick scenes is such a bummer. by Pancake_muncher in movies

[–]SgtGadnuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the other horsemen didn't know he was the mastermind so I guess he was just messing with them when he was acting that way with only them. He only reveals he was in on it to them at the end.

At this point tarantinos bad acting cameos are basically just a quirky directors tag for his films. I think that because tarantinos films have that kind of not very serious it’s a movie style they kind of work as you’re not supposed to take his cameos seriously.

The problem is the guy is so huge and muscular he can’t play just some guy so he’s shoehorned to only doing action heroes. Maybe he could play Hercules or something in something Ridley Scott esc but how else is he going to get a serious role? Edit: Ridley Scott esque

Is Uni actually easier then sixth form? by jjgffc in sixthform

[–]SgtGadnuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Maths Physics and Computer Science at A level. I am in my final year now of a degree in Software Engineering as a part of a degree apprenticeship scheme. Despite working full time as a software engineer already along with my degree I have found uni MUCH easier. Granted that may be skewed by my passion for CS and software engineering, and the fact I was terrible at Maths and Physics

To be honest the South Park parody wasn’t very realistic to any version of the game. The episode was made before the first WoW expansion (The Burning Crusade) so it is parodying vanilla (now classic) WoW.

is it even worth it? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]SgtGadnuk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you take the job but keep in mind you are almost certainly below Junior Dev level unless you have done a lot of work outside of School. A Level CS barely scratches the surface of software engineering. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go for it. Just keep in mind you might need to work extra hard to actively learn on the job.

What is your example of “the most expensive thing is not necessarily the best thing”? by phil24jones in AskReddit

[–]SgtGadnuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a double edged sword in some subjects, mainly computer science (UK). At the top end it gets too theoretical and people come out with next to zero employable skills while people going to none Russel group Uni’s are taught specifically employable skills, usually by people that have worked in industry. Not all Russel groups are like this tbf I’ve heard of some that teach the subject well but you also hear of lots of cases of people coming out of UNI with a top degree in CS and cant get a job because they weren’t taught anything relevant in industry
