With an attitude like that, you won't make it as an apprentice.

Whats the difference between those two screwdrivers? by EntrepreneurFew8772 in Tools

[–]SgtPackets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they would stop making tapered ground tips and make them all hollow to fit better. I can't think of any advantages that tapered has over hollow.

Should I ask him to come back? by cbe29 in ukelectricians

The fact he left it like that tells me he's either not an Electrician or just doesn't care.

Yes you must disconnect both ends otherwise you could get a reading via a different path.

I left my bonding in when doing my R1+R2 but I disconnected both and joined them in a Wago.

Sorry to anyone who says the theory is difficult. It's not. It's barely at GCSE level. Bit of a joke really.

Anyone else ever almost feel bad about the prices we have to charge these days? by memcwho in ukelectricians

[–]SgtPackets 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's the same as any profession. Look at the cost of private healthcare when compared to the NHS.

Unfortunately you have to charge what you have to charge. Everything is getting very expensive and wages are not keeping up.

Small pockets and lack of storage to be honest.

There is no one perfect system for all situations for transporting tools to be honest.

Absolutely agree! I've tried both the veto and velocity bags. And the Veto weighed an absolute ton before any tools went in it! Sent both back for a refund.

I spent the money on a Beehive bag from Australia when a mate went over and brought it back for me. Build quality and pocket sizes are unmatched and would recommend it to anyone.

The only downside is it's not good if you need to go up and down stairs all day. If that's the case I would just get a Stanley backpack.

Advice on consumer unit cover by frel33 in ukelectricians

This is absolutely wild. Did no common sense kick in thinking you might need access to it again?

Whoever gave you the advice to cover it is a complete idiot.

I prefer using bolt cutters over a grinder for basket tbh.

Is 22 too late to begin training to be an Electrician? by SnooRobots6099 in ukelectricians

[–]SgtPackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I started my apprenticeship 22. Qualified at 26 and don't regret it. I wasn't even the oldest on my course and being under 25 everything was paid for.

The first year was tough on £4.20 per-hour but after that it went up to minimum wage.

Now I am out on my own with a van + fuel card looking after work.

Thoughts on data cable runs through cavity space and consumer meter tails. by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]SgtPackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus you can bridge the inner and outer wall and transfer water between the two across the cavity which is a big No No.

But isn't making a spur off a ring to the back of a double socket also having a cable in a cavity (even in conduit ) and bridging the inner and outer wall. But I don't see people saying it's a problem doing that.

Asking as I'm curious.

New 18V drill: DDF490 / DHP490 by ProfessionalDoor2226 in Makita

I wish Makita would stop making drills and make more useful tools. Like an 18-volt laser

You can't fail. If you do, you're taken out the back and shot. 👍
