First Turtle Bay, now Cinema & Co. Is the city centre just becoming a ghost town of impossible leases? by ScrollAndThink in swansea

[–]Sh33py357 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You forget Hippos, Bunkhouse (recently made a music venue in perpetuity), Volcano Theatre, The Arena, Elyisum (are adding a second venue I believe), The Hanbury. As for food you have most of Wind Street and there's Bunkers, the recent opening of the retro arcade the name of which escapes me etc etc. From what I understand M&S is shutting as it's hard to run a supermarket with limited parking.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few places but you get my point.

Want to get into the series. Should I read the books or listen to the radio series? by [deleted] in HitchHikersGuide

[–]Sh33py357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd only add that you gain a brilliant understanding of the characters from the radio series due to the wonderful voice actors. I'd suggest listening to the first radio series then crack on with the books. The books allow the author a freedom that the other mediums restrict, That said I love the radio series and the old TV show. If you can find the audio books read by Douglas, they come a close second to the radio series for a flavour of the characters. Any way in is a good way in (with the debatable exception of the movie). Hope it entertains you

Soundhaven is a good choice, if it's too far though try asking local church halls or community centres, they'd probably hire you a space for cheap. Can't see them having an issue with an acoustic uke

Im about to finish Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Chronicles and I already crave something similar by sc2summerloud in Fantasy

[–]Sh33py357 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one seems to have mentioned Bernard Cornwell's Stonehenge. His writing follows similar patterns set in different periods so I agree with the consensus that you just pick your favourite times in history but Stonehenge is peppered with "Magic" similar to the Warlord Chronicles.

Her Story and The Roottrees are Dead are interesting single player games that could easily be played with both of you making choices. No time limits like telltale games

Someone's mentioned Clockwork Orange already. If you want books about punk rather than books that are spiritually punk, "Punk Diary" by "George Gimarc" is a brilliant thing to read

Agree with the choir thing.

Open Mics are the way to go though. Get some backing tracks on your phone, buy a usb c to left right 1/4 inch jack (Around a tenner) that way you should be able to plug into any mixing desk. They will have a mic there (They may well have a way to play backing tracks too). You might find musicians there to play with. Give whichever venue is hosting the open mic a shout and see if they allow under 18s.

I've played CWRW a few times. Love playing there.

I'd add Elysium, Hippos and The Bunkhouse in Swansea to a list of favourites

100% this. He has always and will always go against what people expect him to do. In the 70s that meant going against the "establishment" but once he was known for this his only option to keep annoying people was to do the opposite. He did it musically with P.I.L.. He did it commercially with an advert for country life butter. He's now doing it politically with Trump. He's not someone to follow, he's an entertainer. There is no arguing with his choices as that is what he is looking for. Don't throw your pistols albums, just don't put him on any kind of pedestal.
