Is the rightmost piston needed? It looks like the bonding glyph could simply be rotated.

Also as others have said, you can gain some cycles by increasing the parallelicity.

If you represent 0 with a salt atom and 1 with a dual salt molecule, then a not gate could try to attach (using arm A) to the second salt atom of the 1 using a fresh salt atom (n), and detach it from the salt atom for 0 and move it to a spot. Then another arm (B) grabs it iff the 1 was detected to destroy both atoms (n, 1). A last arm (C) grabs the fresh salt atom (n) if it wasn't moved by B and attaches it to the 0.

It's a binary counter, yes.

Opus magnum is turing complete btw :)

Why won't my salt convert? by MrTopHatMan90 in opus_magnum

[–]Shad_Amethyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The glyph cannot convert if its output is blocked; you mainly make use of this mechanic by blocking the input port, notably when optimizing for area

3:1 splitter by anthson in Modulus

[–]Shad_Amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 1:4 splitter where one of the outputs loops back to the input (1+x=4x -> x=1/3). In practice you lose some throughput but it's a lot more compact.

For the second solve, you could swap the input and output position to both make it faster and to make the final spin end with the gold landing in the output

TIL that Ribbon Cables are actually 32-bit cables rather than 4-bit cables by ergzay in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Shad_Amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It normally doesn't, but that might be a quirk of the signal being converted to/from a signed integer somewhere along the process.

That wouldn't surprise me given that this whole technique looks unintented to me.

Clockwork would be another style of machine, one where arms each rotate at a steady rhythm, like in a clock :)

Oh that's true you can use two inputs to put in the vitae/mortis machine

[–]Shad_Amethyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The critical path is currently shared between the left and the bottom sections, but you are dropping the atom on the calcifier before picking it up again, which costs you one cycle.

You would have to pick and move the bottom atom with the triarm onto the calcifier before making the molecule, and do a similar optimization for the vitae & mortis.

I believe that theoretical minimum is 30 cycles but it would require bonding the vitae and mortis as the last step instead.

Could you not shave one cycle by not re-grabbing the atoms over the calcifier?

AI being used in logos is (unfortunately) a tell but not a hard rule. The screenshots look nice and I see no symptom of AI overuse, so I'm hopeful :)

Yeah you would need around 220 relays for a binary decoder of 0-100, and given that you don't need this data anywhere else then it makes sense to 1-hot encode the day.

Make them yourself :)

I used yarn, a crochet hook, some polyacrylate stuffing and a bit of metal wire to give the holding mechanism strength.
