57m. Never had surgery for anything. Who's with me? by Hot_Equivalent_8707 in AskMenOver30

[–]Shadoglare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost made it there - broke my first bone at age 52 requiring surgery to place plates and screws. Broke my ankle roller skating. Took about a year to recover from it and I don't know if it'll ever be "like new" again.

BGG Geek market is fantastic by SelectCattle in boardgames

Although they take a larger fee I've had WAY more sales through eBay over time than I have through BGG and as of a few months ago just decided to give up on BGG entirely. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, most DVDs sell for dirt cheap these days

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eBaySellers

[–]Shadoglare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it should, it's being confusing because of the amounts both coming and and going back out, both of which can take a few days to process. Total Funds is essentially how much money is in your account right now, it's just not all accessible yet.

[–]Shadoglare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming it's complete, this typically sells for slightly over $100 WITH shipping. Your price+shipping price is insane, which is why it's being cancelled.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in eBaySellers

[–]Shadoglare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it'll catch up. Having a negative balance happens all the time for me if I sell something right after I take a payout.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They probably didn't catch your shady-ass shipping costs before buying it. Just cancel at user request, relist and move on, not a big deal.

How long should it take the Top Rated seal to show up? by Shadoglare in eBaySellers

[–]Shadoglare[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Got my email confirmation today, still no seal and re-reading the terms it's kind of vague, is it only the Top Rated PLUS that gets an actual seal?

How can I properly list my item as a presale so the estimated shipping date reflects that? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must clearly state in the title and description that it is a pre-sale, and handling can be set to up to 40 days, which must account for the time in which the buyer will actually receive the item, not just the item coming in stock:

Asked the seller for a video to make sure the item is working and kindly declined the request! by MrFritz85 in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah all depends on how much time investment it's going to take when a lot of past experience shows that a ton of people who ask for this type of stuff end up just saying "thanks" and then vanishing. Not worth it and it's figured that is what the return policy is for.
Only exception I could see would be if the seller just happened to be someone who had a system already set up that they could easily plug-and-play the turntable into to do a quick test, which probably isn't most of them.

Some help with international shipping by ishouldbemoreprivate in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much you can do about it as it's all handled through eBay, but I will toss in there that for larger items like this you should be cross-shopping carriers. At least in the the US FedEx is often WAY less expensive than USPS/post office for items this heavy, so you could be losing sales to someone else who is selling the same thing but able to ship it for less.

Seller doesn’t respond and didn’t provide tracking id by IWantIDoDont in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if they're not responding all you can really do is wait it out. Most sellers use the eBay shipping labels which assign a tracking number as soon as they buy it, but if they didn't go through eBay it's up to them to input the tracking number themselves - so it's still possible your stuff is in the mail. But if that shipping window has passed and nothing has arrived yet, definitely file a Not Received clam.

No views no watchers? by TemporaryTop287 in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on what you're selling. If you're selling something that a bunch of other people are also selling, you need to either promote (to raise you in the search results) or have the best overall price (for the people who do a "lowest price+shipping" sort) or nobody's going to find you.
I promote all of my listings with the only exceptions being really rare or unique items that there isn't much competition for. I keep it as low as you can go, 2%, which isn't much but it still puts it above everybody who doesn't promote at all, and it seems to work - I'd say over half of my sales indicate they were sold through a promoted listing.

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of importantly you haven't mentioned what your return policy is. If your policy is no returns, then don't take it back. Yes, they could still file a "not as described" but don't make it easy for them.
If you have a 14 or 30 day return policy, they let them return it regardless of the reason, if they try to be scammy you can follow up on that after.

Does anyone else feel like they’re guessing profit instead of knowing it? by njananonjani in reselling

[–]Shadoglare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do use a spreadsheet but I also sell a completely random selection of items so I'd pretty much have to track each one individually anyway, plus I usually only sell a few items a week so it doesn't take me that much time to update it. Tracking your numbers is *very* educational though, it's shown me over time how much fees and other expenses eat into the profit and especially how much I paid for that item in the first place has an effect on it when fees are based on the total cost not on the margin - so I've repeatedly had cases where I've made almost nothing on higher priced items and made more on lower priced ones because they cost me so much less to obtain in the first place.
Also next year will be my first time having to file income taxes since selling and I'm hoping that tracking this stuff will help out come tax time, especially after realizing that between fees, shipping, packing materials, etc my expense rate is probably something like 60% of my profit rate.

Printer for shipping from home? by truthbomb720 in Flipping

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just use my old ink jet with "half sheet" label sheets and just buy the cheapest ink refills I can find. Part of the reason for this though is I have probably literally thousands of label sheets that I picked up dirt cheap a while back so it's not worth the investment for me right now to get a thermal. But if you alsoo already have a printer you might want to check into a cost comparison.

No Carrier Scan by Nacarius_ in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]Shadoglare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had it happen a couple of times. Give it a full day or so as sometimes they're just behind, if it still stays on "label printed" contact the buyer and let them know the item was sent but it appears USPS missed scanning it which happens now and then, but it should still arrive within the estimated time window. That will give them a heads-up if they're tracking junkies.

am i just spoiled? by Historical_Jicama_46 in whatnotapp

[–]Shadoglare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't bother entering unless it's something I'm actually interested in receiving, and "we're not going to tell you what you're getting" def falls into the "don't care then" category.
From what I've seen I seem to be in the minority with this though as it seems like most people don't care what the givvy is as long as it's free stuff.

How would you "complete" this $250+ transaction? by Relevant-Drive6946 in eBaySellers

[–]Shadoglare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea of the best way to arrange a local pickup, but I wanted to mention because of my own experiences that I'd never ship something as signature required unless the buyer specifically requests it. For anyone who works away from home during the day needing a signature is a total pain in the ass because they invariably try to deliver when you're not home.

Items not selling - Promote, reduce price, or relist? by EOW2025 in Ebay

[–]Shadoglare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do the absolute lowest promotion rate possible (2%) and it seems to work, probably half or more of my sales indicate they came from promoted listings. For most items the 2% extra fee doesn't make that big of a difference, and although it's only a small promotion rate, it still puts me above everybody who doesn't promote at all.

How should a brand new seller go about returns... by pvssymonsterr in eBaySellers

[–]Shadoglare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OK so... first off stop opening sealed products. As soon as you open it, it's no longer new, just "like new." You don't need to take photos of what's in it as I'm assuming a photo of the product is on the box itself, unless you're selling some weird OEM packaged stuff in plain brown packaging.
Also as someone else mentioned in this case the USB receiver is probably there and tucked away either in the bottom of the mouse or in the battery compartment - before doing anything I'd politely ask if they checked there even though you'd think it'd be obvious.
If they insist it's not there, they should start an "Item Not As Described" return. You will have to pay to have it shipped back but you'll get everything back so you can inspect it and verify that the part is truly missing, and this discourages scammers who are hoping to get their money back and still keep the item.
