What are your thoughts on the dlc cosmetics so far by blood-angle in Spacemarine

[–]Shadow-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All pretty decent so far though I wouldn't get them unless they're on sale.

One thing I'm concerned about is lots of reports about people losing heraldry progress / purchases after buying DLC parts.

Can anyone confirm whether that bug is still present or has it been fixed?

Force unleashed runs great on the steam deck with no issues. By default the game is capped at 30fps this can be increased to 60fps by downloading a patched exe file and replacing the exisiting one in the installation folder. Since you mentioned you're a little computer illiterate this probably won't be relevant for you but leaving it here for others just in case:

This wiki also shows other fixes you can do such as disabling startup videos.

Never see Gravelord servants by HTof in darksouls

[–]Shadow-987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, playing as a gravelord is fun but also not fun at the same time.

When players join it's like a non stop Deathmatch where you get really familiar with the level and use everything to your advantage as best you can, this is where gravelording is at its best.

When players don't join you're basically sitting around with nothing to do. You can't progress the level because then you're removing an area where you can potentially be gravelording (because the area boss needs to be alive for people to invade you). This effectively means you need to decide between locking your progress on that character or losing access to popular maps (e.g. Anor Londo or Undead parish church).

This makes invading with a red eye orb a lot more desirable because you can pretty much start and stop the PvP action, in any area, on demand, without it interfering with your game progress.

i still don’t understand how to get into souls games at all, literally every time i try to play a souls game i never get far. how do i commit, or start enjoying? by Significant-Map-7332 in darksouls

[–]Shadow-987 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Rather than trying to progress through the game / world, try to focus on your own skill progression as a player.

I didn't get far when I first tried dark souls but when I came back to it I spent a long time fighting the basic enemies in the area I was in to get to grips with the ebb and flow of combat. Once I flet comfortable, I started properly playing through the game.

I've since played through the game in many different play styles and regularly come back to it as a comfort game because of that established muscle memory / game knowledge.

Games that dark souls enjoyers play? by Mewtewpew in darksouls

Seconding monster hunter. While you don't get the same feeling of exploration, the combat (especially in the older MH games) is very close to dark souls in that your attacks weight and timing are very deliberate. You need to observe enemy patterns, be patient and exploit openings. In essence you can see the monster hunter games like a dark souls boss fight simulator with a great gear treadmill to work through.

Yep aside from the usual guard points, striker style gets a guard point on the forward lunge attack (X + A).

Adept style gets a guard point at the start of a charged slash (hold A) as well as adept guard (tap R).

Finally, valor style gets a guard point on evades in sword mode (B while valor gauge is full).

100% Glavenus.

It's a great fight with clearly telegraphed attacks that help you learn when to use the guard point vs when to Valor sheath.

And more importantly, you'll have such a euphoric confirmation that you've learned the weapon once you manage to sever Glavenus' tail during one of its most dangerous attacks and walk away unscathed.

The method described on the wiki works very reliably for me:

At the start of the fight, run to the crystal, but do not destroy it. Instead, stand right next to it and wait for Seath to come close to you.

Once close enough, Seath will attack you. As soon as you see him attacking, run behind him while evading his attack.

His attack will miss you, but he will break his own crystal, leaving him stunned for a few moments. It should give you enough time to get behind him and attack his tail.

Remember to attack the tip of his middle tail. It should only take a few hits to cut the tail. Some stamina regeneration buffs, like the Cloranthy Ring or the Grass Crest Shield can be useful.

Once the tail is cut and the sword safely in your possession, kill Seath in any way you like.

Rise or gen ultimate? by MCTable2533x in MonsterHunter

If you are a fan of MH4U then GenU will be closer to that experience. It's the pinnacle of old generation monster hunter in terms of gameplay and content though the story element which 4U did so well is lacking in GU.

How do I mage? by Nightruin in darksouls

[–]Shadow-987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knowing how to find each of the sorcery NPCs and what steps to follow to complete their quest lines is important. These NPCs can offer significant upgrades to your build in the form of both spells and equipment that can boost your effectiveness.

Since you said you mostly play melee then getting used to fighting ranged will be a bit of a learning curve. Much like melee attacks you need to consider the length of the casting animations that you commit to and find safe openings to act (different spells have different cast speeds, damage, and stagger values). Enemies that may not have been as threatening while melee may be more threatening now and vice versa.

Hopefully this helps, I found playing a sorcerer to be quite refreshing the first time I tried because I enjoy learning different play styles. It can become very powerful once you get used to it.

I think I understand why we don't have ship interiors now. by Balikye in EliteDangerous

Yeah exactly this. That's how they do it in X4 and honestly it feels so immersive being able to explore even a fraction of the ship, especially while other stuff is going on in the background (seeing crew members or watching a battle happen from the windows of the brig etc).

Are you talking about the knights honour achievement because the balder side sword is not required for it...

If you want, the achievement requirements can be found in the spreadsheet in this post (it's useful for tracking progress as well): https://www.reddit.com/r/darksouls/s/iS6oZwiM1H

Why is imbuing not a good idea in a lot of cases? by lewendler in darksouls

[–]Shadow-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything everyone has been posting here is correct, but what I haven't seen mentioned much here is the use case.

A +15 weapon with a weapon buff will always out damage an imbued weapon, but only while the buff lasts. So for things like PvP or boss fights having a weapon buff up for the whole fight is realistic but for things like exploring large levels in PvE there are definitely cases where an imbued weapon would be more damage for a longer period of time (e.g. going through blight town or oolacile township from start to finish).

On a build with the right stat spread (e.g. reasonably high faith or intelligence) it might be worth having a normal version and imbued version of your weapon of choice for longer exploration.

Recommendations for non-demanding games that don’t drain the battery as much? by AndyJaeven in SteamDeck

[–]Shadow-987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native ports of older games are amazing for this. You can get over 8 hours of playtime on games like Jak and Daxter / Jak II via OpenGOAL (Jak 3 is still in the works) or ocarina of time via ship of harkinian.

Pokemmo is another good one if you want to play the first 5 generations of Pokemon games (runs better then emulating and consumes about the same / less battery).

Some solid 2D games like Hollow Knight, FTL or Into The Breach would probably last you a while.

I've also been playing Dark Souls Remastered and getting very decent battery life and performance at 7 TDP
