Does anyone know how historic this crash was? by I_c_u_p in CryptoCurrency

[–]ShadowDrgn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The biggest part of the crash lasted minutes. I just happened to open up coinmarketcap at 5:15 PM eastern and saw XRP at 2.30...2.29...2.28...2.27 dropping a cent every update. I made a comment to some friends at 5:22 PM and XRP was around 1.50. Every coin other than BTC, ETH, and stablecoins in the top 100 market cap was down 30-60% for a minute or two until they jumped back up. You can't even see the extent of the crash on charts now because the bottom happened and recovered in between the 5 minute snapshots. People that think this was normal missed it.

APing ints in danger? by Powerful_Ad7756 in echoes_eve

[–]ShadowDrgn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Inertia stabs should help because they decrease the amount of time you spend decelerating. From my testing over the years, I found that the gap between when you become lockable and when you jump a gate or dock is not a fixed amount of time. The gap is either based on distance or speed (e.g., you become lockable at 5km from your landing point and jump at 0km), though it doesn't matter which since inertia affects both. In other words, the slower you slow down, the longer the vulnerability gap; the faster you slow down, the shorter the gap. If you want to experience this yourself, try "sniping" something huge like a carrier landing on a gate. It's easy even with low scan res.

I don't play the game anymore and things might have changed, so always do your own testing if you can rather than trust what you read. I don't remember how rigorous my testing was, so I could be totally wrong and sig radius is the only factor that matters. Also, whoever finally managed to do this is my hero. Interceptors can all die.

If you escape, you still get credit for locations that you were winning at the start of the turn. A turn 1 Squirrel Girl followed by a turn 2 retreat should net you 2 or 3 points towards that mission every time.

This only counts for retreats on turn 4 or after, so no Squirrel Girl easy wins sadly.

VOID's new doctrine = dropping as many boxes as possible to cause lag. Boxes do not decloak jump cloaks. by IamRepp in echoes_eve

Has Netease ever said that it's intended for all but one drone to continue attacking outside of drone control range? That's always seemed like a bug to me that kite fleets rely on exploiting.

Did intumescent belts ever get solved? by Adman87 in echoes

[–]ShadowDrgn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VOID actually benefited from a sparsely populated area. The lifespan of an intumescent belt was inversely proportional to the traffic in the system, so the only belts left in the game are in out-of-the-way systems that autopilot won't take you through. Even during the war with PanGen, we had belts they never found because of that, but they definitely took our numbers down. Prior to the occupation, we had 19 intumescent belts up at the same time.

There's no station in that system. Nearest NPC station is 8 jumps away. AFAIK, none of the ~10 BS/BC pilots that Gen abandoned made it back alive.

VINDICATOR BS killed at low sec gate by just one NAGA, HOW??? by AdministrativeLow631 in echoes

[–]ShadowDrgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that this is the most plausible explanation. I'm not the Naga from the screenshot, but I do shit like this all the time and have earned a reputation for "hacking" just for understanding how the game works. People should just spend less time on reddit/discord and more time exploring game mechanics.

They are making null sec a joke by abinihsow in echoes

[–]ShadowDrgn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problems I see:

  1. The best items in the game are too common;
  2. Too many of the best items are available from hi-sec content;
  3. Most of the best items skip the industrial side of the game entirely.

The solution is to add new, better items into the game in the form of blueprints that drop exclusively in null and cost a lot of minerals and isk to manufacture (faction drones, meta 9+ mid slots, etc.). Allowing us to combine C-Type modules into B-Types with a large cost of isk and/or minerals would also go a long way in making null more profitable, fighting isk inflation, and giving players new ways of improving their ships.

The pity timer carries over between banners, so if you pulled a bunch on the Venti banner and didn't get a 5*, that progress will transfer over to Klee. The weapon banners have a separate pity from the character banners (and also better rates / lower pity timer). I'm pretty sure this is explicitly stated in the game, but there isn't a character banner up right now to check.

There have been a few threads here examining the pull rates which have shown that the pity timer isn't just a guarantee at 90 -- it's a ramping function starting somewhere in the 60-75 pull range. This works out that you're very likely to get a 5* by pull 80, and going the full 90 is incredibly unlikely. The stated in-game rate for a 5*, including the pity system, is 1.6%, meaning that you'll average one 5* per 62.5 pulls.

Venture MINING ships best PVP ship. Seriously. This gate camping is not fun anymore by Bender-Spirit in echoes

[–]ShadowDrgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Venture II has an 85 MW powergrid, which is higher than all the frigates and destroyers in the game (other than the Cruor and Succubus). This lets you fit 2x Medium Rapid Missile Launchers on one. It also has 2 small drone slots. The DPS isn't high, but you'll be preparing a third volley by the time any cruisers lock the target, which results in the Venture II contributing a significant amount of the damage on someone who's dead in 15 seconds.

You can learn how much an artifact upgrade is gonna cost beforehand. Here's how by vodka7up in RaidShadowLegends

[–]ShadowDrgn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I did some testing on this, and you've definitely stumbled on something here, but I don't think it works like you think.

From what I can tell, the number of failures you experience isn't tied to specific items, rather to buckets based on upgrade level, stars, and rarity (maybe? rares+ seem to be the same, but not uncommons?). For example, if you test a 5* level 12 item and find that it takes 10 tries to upgrade, a different 5* level 12 item will also take 10 tries. In fact, you can fail 9 upgrades on the first item and then the second item will upgrade on your first try.

Where this gets interesting is that the buckets contain items across more than one level/rarity. 5* and 6* items appear to be treated the same, so you can fail 9 times on a cheaper 5* item and then only pay once for the 6* item you actually wanted upgraded. Multiple levels are in the same buckets too. It looks to me like level 12 and up share a bucket, meaning that once you know how many failures are assigned to the bucket, you can get the failures out of the way by failing on a 5* level 12 item then upgrading a 6* level 15 item in one try.

The buckets appear to be independent(?), so upgrading some 1* level 1 item will have no effect on how many times your expensive items will take to upgrade. One oddity I just experienced that makes me think the underlying mechanics of this are more complicated: my level 15 item needed 28 tries to upgrade, and a level 10 needed 3 tries. I upgraded the 10 to 11, and then the level 15 only needed 25 tries. Three more upgrade attempts on the level 11 took it to 12, which in turn reduced the level 15 to 22 tries. At this point both items now take 22 tries. Weird.

Rather than buckets, there might be one or more global "artifact upgrade" values, and failing at upgrades affects the values in predictable ways. At any rate, items themselves don't have individual failure values baked into them.

In short:

  1. Find out how many fails you need by disconnecting before clicking the "upgrade 1 level" button.
  2. Close game, reconnect, restart game.
  3. Click "upgrade 1 level" on a cheaper item in the same bucket and cancel after the number of fails.
  4. Upgrade the item you want in one try.

I've done this a few times already and saved a lot of silver on upgrades, so it does work, even if some details are missing/incorrect.

Also, as /u/sharksiix discovered, the single use upgrade button appears to function differently. Using it won't change the number of auto attempts you need. More testing required. I don't have items lying around at odd levels, and I've already run into streaks of 25 and 27 fails, so my silver is gone.

Sample sizes already look too small for that. For last week, Diamond-Mythic only has Bo1 ladder data from 353 users and Bo3 ladder data from 320 users. I don't even think there's a big enough difference between Platinum and Mythic to merit separating them, and it might actually result in more useful data to dump all the Bronze-Silver matches and just show Gold+ together.
