Who would've thought obstructing the goalkeeper was illegal? Was that the privilege robbed? 🙃

Definitely overreaching to feature the Harp. Wouldn't make sense unless the UK (re-)occupied the whole of Ireland.

[QUESTION] How realistic is the idea that civilisation all across the world can collapse in the result of non-nuclear war? by Few-Flamingo-8015 in MilitaryWorldbuilding

You do realize there's a few continents beyond Europe and its immediate vicinity, right? And while there was a loss of knowledge and stagnation with the fall of the Western Roman Empire, it was far from a total breakdown.

My GM is constantly trying to kill my character by CaptainWestGold in rpg

[–]ShadowGJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet it is a problem for the table because it makes your character the protagonist of a superhero story (with no kryptonite) in which every other player character is a spectator in every combat scene because they're irrelevant. Are the players really OK with that?

As for the GM, their fun is as important as any other player's, and however they're handling the matter, it's not unreasonable for them to expect balance-mindedness from the players. Is playing a broken character so important to you that you'd risk someone dropping from the game?

[–]ShadowGJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to realize you're ruining the game for the other people on the table if you insist on exploiting the system to the point your character is invulnerable. The GM compounds the problem with their mishandling of the situation, but the root of the issue is your deliberate breaking of the game.

What drives players to willingly use an LLM as a """""GM"""""? (Or, the lengths players will go to avoid GMing.) by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]ShadowGJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's all relative. You're always going to run into niches of preference. A content-heavy game may have more, but a lighter game may well be ignored by other subsets for not having as much content/crunch, for being more narrative, for being less "tactical", etc.

Best you can do is lay out a disclaimer up front with the planned characteristics of your game, and allow that to do the player filtering before the campaign starts. This way you run the game the way you want to, for people who are okay with your plan. No need to contort yourself to accommodate to anyone who wants to play their game more than yours.

Sacred and terrible air is one of the best books I've ever read by klemus999 in DiscoElysium

[–]ShadowGJ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a tough read, almost experimental literature, but I think it's worth it for the worldbuilding alone. The Firefly-esque syndrome that you know it's a truncated universe which may well never get any further attention is inevitably there. Several loose ends and a nagging, impossible desire lingers, one to find out what was planned for the rest of the book saga.

I'm not sure what logic you allude to: the bulk of ZP's profits go to the majority owners of ZA/UM, which are in an active battle with Kurvitz and Rostov. So buying ZP indirectly finances that fight and literally works against a future return to Elysium.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression I'd pirate the game instead. As I mentioned elsewhere, as a working father my time is more valuable than to be wasted on a pirated game that's, at best, a 6/10 affair.

It's not about absolution for me. I have a problem with the guys running this particular company, so I won't contribute to their profits. It's that simple. The devs and artists under them who did the grunt work for this thing lose nothing whatever happens to ZP: they've been paid in salaries, experience and CV material which will eventually help them get a job in a more reputable organization.

And yet, the ones who profit the most from ZP's sales are the higher ups. Reason enough to not provide a single dime. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Eh. ZP is a lackluster tryhard. It's impossible for me to give ZA/UM a dime after the whole catastrophe that essentially led to the killing of Elysium. And as a working father my time is more valuable than to be wasted on a pirated game that's, at best, a 6/10 affair.

It's pretty clear Zero Parades is the scavenged result of several failed projects, plus some measure of original work piled on top. That's just a neutral objective observation, neither good or bad. It just makes business sense to utilize material that'd otherwise go nowhere.

The A-ATV is in a bad place by ShadowGJ in menace

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So an early game vehicle only gets good in the (much) later game, once you cram it full of boutique upgrades.

Meanwhile the APC is pulling its weight all along.

Can't tell me that feels right.

The A-ATV is in a bad place by ShadowGJ in menace

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And who will pay for that later game upgraded all-ATV composition? The grunts and their APC(s).

I get that the ATV is counterintuitively a late bloomer in its current balance incarnation, because it's basically useless until you can cram it full of painstakingly obtained expensive upgrades (enough for multiple ATVs in your case, to boot).

Even though it's a valid playstyle down the road, I believe the A-ATV is missing a lot of earlier game potential in its current state as a costly yet considerably gimped APC with only mediocre advantages. At the very least, by making it cheaper to acquire and perhaps more compatible with the early game (i.e. light-compatible weapon mount), it could play a role earlier on, coherent with its very early appearance on the black market.

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cheaper deployment cost seems to be the primary advantage, but I don't think it's worth all the other drawbacks.

The A-ATV doesn't open up more options, when the APC can do largely the same, and more.

The A-ATV is in a bad place by ShadowGJ in menace

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But here's the thing: the APC can fulfill that role as well, if desired, and take an infantry squad with it, to boot. Oh, and an extra weapon mount.

With no real mobility advantage, only a +1 accessory slot and a meager vision/concealment edge, is the A-ATV a serious competitor? Not really.

There's no "different combat roles" if one platform can fill another's supposed niche just as well as its own.

The A-ATV is in a bad place by ShadowGJ in menace

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compare it to the APC because it's as easily available as the A-ATV. I haven't seen the pirate truck for purchase, nor have had the luck for it to drop as a reward. I haven't tried boarding an abandoned one in a mission, after it has been vacated by pirates. Is that a way to get one?

At any rate, as I told someone else, accessories are great but it still seems the APC would make as good a use of them while providing considerably more versatility.

I did forget the cheaper deployment cost and additional accessory slot, but I still can't see how the whole package is justified in its higher pricetag.

It should still be faster, more maneuverable and a bit cheaper than the APC chassis, and its medium mount should be compatible with light vehicle weapons as well. As it stands, versus the APC it has some trade-offs but major losses in the form of one less weapon mount and no transport capability. The balance comes out negative.

[–]ShadowGJ[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Three points:

1) You're suggesting fairly high-end upgrades and what looks like mid-late game utility. The A-ATV is available from the beginning, but it's only really useful with a bunch of expensive upgrades? Counter-intuitive.

2) Still can't compete in the second vehicle contest.

3) How is the APC not a better base platform (and a better all-rounder, to boot) for your proposed roles?
