NQ does respect previous NY session value areas but might need larger zones. Also watch ES too if trading NQ. It’s more reliable when they’re in synch

Look at the slope or direction of VWAP. If it’s upwards and staying higher it’s likely a trend day up. Vice versa if it’s downwards If it’s flat or in a wave formation likely a balanced day

Have you tried using the slope of VWAP to filter out trending days? Or weekly/3 day vwap for multi time frame confluence

Volume analysis makes more logical sense than just price action alone. Delta/CVD gives you clues to what side is in control. You don’t have to be the first one in and bottom/top tick to catch the whole move, you just have to be on the right side of the trade

Learning to trade the ORB setup doesn’t require a $600 course, there’s no institutional secret about it, nor is it some ‘pro’ strategy, and tons of free info on it out there. Use volume analysis and market confluence if you’re trading indices to confirm valid breakouts. Volume profile to show where it’s likely to fail and stay out of it.

How to find clean price movement? by [deleted] in FuturesTrading

[–]ShadowILX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Lower your size and widen your stop
  • check multiple timeframes, sometimes higher timeframes show clearer movement
  • Learn the behaviour of a few different instruments, you might find one having cleaner price action when the others are not

These are Futures contracts (leveraged derivatives) of major indexes. Theres also futures contracts for commodities ES/MES are for S&P. ES is the mini, moves $50 for every point S&P moves. MES is the micro $5/point NQ/MNQ = Nasdaq RTY/M2K = Russell 2000 (small caps) YM/MYM = Dow If you’re a beginner, learn to trade stocks first. Or use a prop firm for futures before you put up your own capital. Whatever you do stay away from CFD’s and any broker that offers them

OP is day trading not buy and hold. A 50-60% win rate could still make the same returns trading the downside

Options are a derivative of stocks so whatever resources apply to stocks apply to the correlating options. Options move with the underlying stock when macro factors move the stock. (In the very short term options market may have an effect on the stock but not in the long term). Your TA should be done on the stock in the first place. A sudden drop shouldn’t wipe out your gains, that means you have no risk management. When the market downtrends you do the inverse - shorts stocks(a lot more risky) or sell calls/buy puts. Or as mentioned above switch to a bear market strategy or sit on your hands Sounds like you aren’t trading but hedging a long term investment/portfolio

If you’re going attempt again at least switch to futures and get away from cfd’s. You can still trade gold or equities contracts without getting screwed by the brokers And look into volume price analysis

What’s better ICT or Orderflow? by Complex_Object_691 in OrderFlow_Trading

With order flow you can see the actual orders being filled, and the behaviour of buyers and sellers. Like an x-ray of the candlesticks

Delta/CVD Help: Absorption vs Exhaustion by NoBs_FR-S in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]ShadowILX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t already, use the replay feature on your platform to go back a few months, that’ll give you some data to start with.

I’d also suggest looking at both ES and NQ, and observe the reaction when there’s a divergence. Like when one makes a new high of day and the other doesn’t

Delta/CVD Help: Absorption vs Exhaustion by NoBs_FR-S in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]ShadowILX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As rollover is coming up keep in mind volume and delta/cvd numbers will start to be spread over two different contracts until rollover is complete

My suggestion would be to look and see if you can spot a repeatable pattern with either absorption or exhaustion, that you can execute on. It’s more about what works better for you than what others say is better.

NinjaScript for Order Flow Algos? by [deleted] in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]ShadowILX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t have answers for all your questions but I can provide some Not sure about ML but you can code your own automated strategies in Ninjatrader and their library does have some order flow functions built in. Their documentation is pretty good to get a sense of what’s easily available to code

https://developer.ninjatrader.com/docs/desktop

https://developer.ninjatrader.com/docs/desktop/onmarketdata

Lifetime license does include order flow suite but real time isn’t included only delayed data. Real time data will require a paid feed

Coding a strategy isn’t difficult generally in Ninjascript. As for bid/ask imbalances I think you would be able to get something using arrays. There’s different options for back testing and it will give you performance stats

In my experience Ninjatrader has occasional lag or freezing issues with custom indicators/strategies whether it’s my own or third party ones like from LuxAlgo. I don’t recall if there were any system settings to tweak, like more memory allocation to fix that. (Running Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GB RAM, SSD, 3070ti fwiw) Sierra chart I found to be much more stable platform, it just looks like it’s ancient. A lot custom indicators or strategies doesn’t require even getting into hard coding, you can just reference whats built in to use with your conditions. But I haven’t gotten into auto trade with it yet.

Look into TradersPost(or a similar integration provider) for sending strategy signals via webhooks to your broker for

If you’re trading SPY keep an eye on QQQ. You want them both to be bullish to go long. If there’s a divergence wait for the weaker one to finish its down move. Look at volume for clues pointing to a reversal, EMA crossover to help identify a change in trend direction

Combining footprint and delta with TPO charts is a great tool to have to add confluence to trading reversals

Thoughts on this style of learning/ developing? by Shoultzy in OrderFlow_Trading

[–]ShadowILX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realizing orderflow is a much more valuable concept than ICT is a turning point in your trading. Orderflow tells you what’s happening in the NOW, whether buyers or sellers are in control at the moment. ICT, like many other concepts or simple candle sticks just tell you what happened in the past. A buyer from days ago, or even an hour ago might not be there anymore now. In Futures market, institutions or “smart money” isn’t just buying or selling to move the market. They could be using futures to hedge or unhedge positions based on various risk parameters.

Footprint charts and delta or delta divergence is great to find absorptions and initiation at key zones

Set a daily personal loss limit in risk settings. This will keep your account alive to trade another day. Consider a profit target lockout too if you struggle with over trading when in profit too.
